Are boy dolls really less of a challenge? More boring? XD

Jan 22, 2006

    1. In my opinion boy dolls are better. I have 4.5 boy dolls. I don't know why but I have never gravitated twards the girls. I just like the boys and how they look. My boys have a larger wardrobe than I do.!!!!!!

    2. Being an owner of male dolls, they do not crossdress so I must admit finding the right clothes is pretty hard, although Dollheart is fantastic for boy clothes. I've gone as far as designing drawings and having DOA seamstress make the custom outfits for my 70cm's. I think they are challenging than boring. X_X;

    3. I find boys more of a challenge.

      Its harder to find clothes I like for them, wigs that look right, and especially shoes in the right styles... Which is why I thought I'd be sticking mostly to girls (despite my first BJD being a boy).... but I seem to have about the same number boys and girls.

    4. I love the challenge of making clothing and dressing my boy dolls. And I love the look of them with nothing on at all. I find female dolls uninteresting, for a million and one reasons.

    5. I feel like it depends on the boy, really!

      At the moment, I don't own a boy doll, but I have plans to get one. Already I've had a blast designing for him, and it comes so easily! I know he will be more of a regal character, and what elements of clothing he'd prefer, so that makes designing for him easier.

      My girl, who is very much a tomboy, I often have more trouble with. Putting her in something excessively girly is easy, as is putting her in something that definitely makes her look like a guy. Where I have trouble is drawing the line between the two.

    6. guys are more of a challenge, there's so many cute/frilly/sleek/modern/beautiful outfits for the girls at whatever size...

      but for the men?! It's a hunt! My SD dude has a steam punk suit, his Hakama & Haori, is getting a Heian Era outfit, and the rest, tshirts, sweaters, and jeans... maybe some day he'll have a proper tux too? He's got a few "interesting" cosplay stuff too (Ninja, sort of Chineseish Kei, a scifi tunic... ) most of what he ends up with are things NOT coming from the big companies.

      and the boys? tshirts, pants, shorts! jeans...

      and the girls we have a much wider range of garb to play with...

    7. I find boys being more of a challenge. I guess because there's just SO MUCH girl clothes out there. Even for my girl, whose body proportions are a smidge large and casts her out of the SD13 range, I managed to find way too much clothing for her. My boys I'm having a hard time with. The clothes are either far too dressy or punk or goth or come in fullsets where only PART of it works. It's rather irritating but I'm up for the challenge.

      I'm hoping, though, when I learn how to sew, this will mostly be a thing of the past. :D

    8. My boys are actually quite fun to dress because I base their styles on what's popular in human sized fashion XD I've got a hipster boy, a preppy boy, one jeans and t-shirts type, one scene kid, and one who I sew fantasy garb for (he's my creative outlet that one) so in the end, it's just as easy as sewing for my girls.

    9. boys are boring only shoes wise. I am freaking tempted to buy them heel feet sometimes XDD
      there aren't that many girl clothes I want actually. my dolls clothes wishlist has more boy clothes on it :3 and girl shoes >.>;;
      if I did get a girl, she would most likely end up a pinup *eyebrows*

    10. I always thought that already-made male clothes were kind of dull. From what I've seen, there are suits/uniforms, semi-feminine outfits, and leather.

      I don't see a heck of a lot of 'regular guy' stuff, like khaki, or polo shirts, or things with maybe a...prep-vibe rather than a professional, girly, or S&M look.

      If anyone can offer some suggestions, I'm totally open.

      And actually, I do plan for my BBB Apollo to have a uniform, but I don't want him only in a uniform.

      I also think the shoes are pretty similar. I also am finding boy shoes tend to run on the pricier side because they tend to be very ornate.

    11. No ~ :eusa_naug To me, it is more challenging in finding clothes and applying makeup that is suitable for boy dolls ~ :vein I think having a boy doll is fun, not boring at all! :)

    12. Um.. I guess, dressing a boy doll requires a better fashion sense xD?
      So in fact it is more challenging than dressing up girls?

    13. I don't think boys in general are too difficult to buy for. Boy SDs, no, not at all. Places like Tata's paradise have plenty of rather casual clothes that are tailored for non-flamboyant boys. Boy MSDs are a tad more tricky, but things can be found for them that are rather solidly male. In fact, a few black hoodies modeled by girl dolls on Dollmore ended up being perfect for my boy MSDs. Boy Yo-SDs are where the main problem is. I've had a lot of trouble finding boy-ish clothes for them, and right now the only things I have for them are rather frilly. Of course, what I can't buy I simply make.

    14. and personnally I am unable to find the clothes you mentionned for boys xDD
      if you looks on Luts and nine9style and such, they have some pretty cool and everyday-kind but fashionable clothes for boy : D

    15. For me boy are harder to dress but is more fun than the girls
      I buy there clothes because guys fashion (pants, jacket, etc.) are harder to make compared to dress and skirts
      For my girls, I usually saw them fancy dresses and pretty skirts... ^^

    16. I think it really depends on the boy. Almost all of my dolls are boys, and some are more challenging than others. Boys who are more "conventional" (shorter hair, pants all the time, etc.) are harder, especially since clothing for them is more expensive. xD;

      Luckily for me, most of my boys (with the exception of Remus *grumblegrumble*) are fairly flexible - I have more than one habitual crossdresser, and several more metro guys who don't really care if somebody sees them in *gasp* tights or something. And all of them have longer hair, as is my preference. :P

      ...honestly, the biggest challenge for one of my upcoming boys is going to be keeping up with his wardrobe! He's a clotheshorse! XD

    17. I don't think boy dolls are boring at all I think there is tendency to have a harder time finding items sometimes for that specific doll but I only have two girl dolls right now and more than one feminie cross-dressing boy. the other boys like the leather look and my friends have told me I am not allowed to touch a sewing machine ( I suck u all should see the pillow and blanket set I attempted for my friend terrible terrible) Anyway I think there are things out htere though for people looking for a certain look its a matter of paitence and perserverance and maybe buying a combination of two outfits instead of one and using the left over pieces.

    18. There are a couple of sellers on Ebay who do "regular guy" stuff, but they are no less expensive than the stuff from Asia.
      One is http://myworld.ebay.com/wootim/
      The other is http://myworld.ebay.com/beachgirlnikita/

    19. It is kind of a challenge for the larger boys.

      I have 4 SD-size guys and making sure they each have their own style can be tricky. The demon is the easiest. He wears flowing robes and kimono like outfits. Alex is a bit trickier. He's kind of goony so clothing would not be his top priority so he wears a lot of t-shirts with weird saying and jeans. Issac and Julan are the toughest to dress. They have me looking through magazines and stuff. I want them to look sophisticated but effortless.

    20. I don't know that I would say boys are more challenging to dress then girls. With my girl, well, she's a model doll so she's a little challenging purely for her size. But I see a lot of clothes out there that verge on the style I want for her..but just don't quite hit it off. And I have those same feelings for the clothes I see for boys. Especially my larger boys. I will say I've found one vedour here on Doa that I love a lot of her pieces. Tous Les Garcon is clothes for mostly 70cm boys. A lot of it looks like period wear, but Soo pretty! I'm constantly checking the thread to see if there is new styles being put out.
