Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. I do like a fantasy theme but it's not the hooves and pointed ears kind of type, but a more subtle(?) kind of fantasy... Like an odd color scheme in a Victorian setting or an antique carnival-like place with a bit of steampunk-ish elements. A lot of pin-stripes and patterns sort of thing. *is not making sense xD*

    2. I love elf ears, and 4 dolls of mine (5) have elf ears.. so.. Yes! Fantasy (and fairyland) dolls are more attractive for me xD

    3. I really enjoy Soom's fantasy dolls, but there are few that I'm in love with to the point of actually wanting to purchase one. [Gah I wish I had an Amber and a Glot ;~; ] I also enjoy Fairyland/Luts vampire sculpts and elf ears because they are cute and they aren't ridiculously large. [Seriously if vampires were real and had fangs like the notdoll vampires, they'd all be dead.]

Overall, I tend to prefer humans and that's why my dolls are both human. I do hope to get a spiffy soom md the next time I see one that I absolutely must have.

    4. Soom MD are fabulous, but I prefer human parts 'cause they're really realistic dolls..
Umh.. But the Euclase is fantastic with "animal" parts also the Heliot..

    5. I prefer the dolls with human parts, hands down. They're more versatile and appeal much more to me, because I imagine all my dolls as humans. (Also, no elf ears to worry about breaking off!) The Soom MDs look pretty and all, but I probably would only use the human parts if I had one.

    6. Some of the 'fantasy' dolls are really great but for the most part I dont get the "awww I want it!". I don't think I would get as much use out of most of them either if I did own them. Still, I certainly enjoy looking at some of those adorables hooves, paws and more!

    7. I prefer human looking dolls, at least for the ones I want to own. I think that fantasy dolls are often really beautiful and interesting, but I never fell the urge to own one. I think I feel like they would be harder to connect to in real life, since the are fantasy creatures. I do love seeing all the different kinds though!

    8. I like fantasy dolls very much, but generally I don't think they're quite as versatile for if I want to change a doll's look. If I had a doll with elf ears for example, I just wouldn't feel right in putting her in anything other than a fantasy outfit. Whereas with a human doll, I could change her goth, punk, fantasy, victorian, etc and mentally feel more accepting of it. So I think I will be buying mostly human dolls.

    9. very much, all of my dolls stories are fantasy inspired all faeries or elves of some sort,i wish they all had elf ears though

    10. I can definitely find appreciation for the fantasy themed BJDs, but I lean more towards the "regular" human looking dolls. But I think when it all comes down to it, it's personal preference. I might find myself one day really pining for a fairy doll or a elf one (Volks Irvin caught my eye once), but it just depends on the doll.

In regards to preferring a doll to recreate an anime character or creating a character from a story...for me, it depends. I could see myself possibly trying to create my own version of Suigitou from Rozen Maiden, but I could also see myself purchasing the Volks Suigintou whenever it comes to the marketplace again. It seems fitting to create BJDs that look like famous BJDs. But, I don't see myself purchasing a series of dolls to embody the physical version of a story I really like, but I can see myself creating characters that would like like them on Aion or WoW. Especially considering how expensive that would be in the long run. For me, my dolls are just my dolls and don't represent any specific character. But again, it's up to everyone's personal preference and the kind of doll that fits their fancy at the time.

    11. I'm a fantasy freak, so needless to say, I lean toward the pointy ears and faerie wings. My first doll has an over-sized head and eye sockets (some call it alien looking), but it touches the mango/anime lover in me. The doll I am saving up for is a Mei with lovely, understated elf ears. I do like the looks of several other more "human" dolls so if I get any more I might not stick strictly to fantasy, but since I role-play fantasy beings that's more likely.

    12. Kirah- I just bought a Mei, half because of the ears, and half because of her crazy-beautiful face. ^^ She hasn't come yet, but I'm super excited. I'm sure my kids will love her.

Yeah, fantasy. I've been a fantasy geek all my life, so I suppose that would influence my dolls. XD
Though... My first three dolls all live in the realm of "normal, real-life."
Weird....I'd never thought of that before.... Looks like my fourth will be a solid half-elf, though.

I also agree with HaloNoir. My first doll was a human because I wanted to be able to customize his look without feeling contrained.

    13. Yeah, I prefer dolls that look human. Elf ears are cute, I'll admit, but I'd much rather the human ear.

    14. I got my alien-baby vinyl doll today and look forward to working on her. I'm still planning on my Mei as my next doll, however, I saw a doll online today made up to look like a 1960s mod girl. I see an Obitsu 27cc in my future . . . . hehe

    15. I don't necessarily need my dolls to look like fantasy characters because they are fantasy characters. The world their characters come from is entirely my made up fantasy! Thus this allows me to do whatever I want with however they look. Lately I've been trying to pick dolls that resemble the imaginary races etc. and go from there- they don't have to have elf ears or vampire teeth to be 'fey' in my imaginings. But I suppose, it's kinda 50/50- I like some fantasy dolls, and others not so much.

    16. I love fantasy dolls! <3 I think the fantasy element of bjds is what got me into the hobby!
They don't need to have fantasy aspects for me to like and buy them ... though my collection says other wise >.> Faust is the only one thats %100 human lol.
Though my criteria is I have to really like the doll and have a character in mind ... most of my characters not being human ... so that explains that XD

    17. Hehehe, the only thing that could make me more certain that I'm going to buy a doll with a fantasy theme would be if there was someone out there selling furry feet for "halflings" (which we all know means knock off hobbits).

    18. Yes. Fantasy dolls are more attractive to me.

My first bjd was a ws elf (that was about as fantastical as you could get then, unless you modded!). Second was a ws, elf, third and fourth...

Broke with trend and got a ns human! Then back to colored skin elves and anthro tinies. Vampires. And two Soom Monthly Dolls. FINALLY, with Soom and dolls like Souldoll's Chiron and others... FINALLY there are some true fantasy dolls! Sadly, I've got almost too many dolls now and I don't like letting go of them, so I'm not going any more crazy than I can help it with buying them, but I LOVE to see them!!! :D

    19. I prefer dolls that to me represent a character in my head. I've been playing mmo games for over 10 years now so my first bjd was my first game character Luma(b&g afra) a half elf. I searched for weeks before I found a doll that I thought was just Luma to me. My next one is going to be a World of Warcraft forsaken(zombie). I already have her picked out just have to wait for my birthday. I know I'm getting a vampire at one point, but so far I've not found a vampire that I like well enough. I think I may have to just find a sculpt that I feel just screams vampire to me then find someone to put the size fangs I want on. After that I'm not sure what my dolls will be or if I'll even get anymore after those three.

So yeah I do lean toward fantasy dolls, but that doesn't mean those are the only ones that I like. It's just that in order to get bjds and still pay my bills and eat I prioritized which ones I wanted and in which order I felt they were more important.

I really like that dolls can come almost anyway a person could want them. I don't personally like the hoofed ones, or mermaid and so forth but I've seen some gorgeous ones. I also don't like sizes smaller than around 58c but then there's people that don't like the larger dolls. It's all in what a person likes.

    20. I really like the light fantasy aspects of many dolls. I have two elves, am making plans for at least one more, and am also planning for a vamp. Only one of my dolls can be called human, but two are human sculpts (one is getting fantasy eyes and horns...). I'm not biased toward those with details like elf ears or vampire teeth, but I'm not turned off by them, either. Make sense?

I, however, don't like the Chimera details of certain special or LE dolls. I like wings and horns, but hooved or clawed feet/hands bother me. I like normal hands and feet. The only exceptions to that are the dragons, since I already adore them and have been collecting dragons for years.
