Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. I feel like I am the only person here on DoA that HATES fantasy dolls. I just don't like them. I can't exactly pinpoint what it is but I personally don't like them.

    2. I guess I never expected people to 'dislike' fantasy dolls just because i love them so much. :sweat
In my dream world(where i have lots of money) I would have a Chiron centaur and then maybe a cute elf to ride on him and then a couple of fauns to run about (maybe a chrom<3) and if I could get my hands on a mermaid too... and then I would also get a couple tiny little fairies to fly around.:D

Personally i'm not fond of the Vampires I've seen though those do seem pretty popular, but I don't hate them or anything its just that angst is really not my thing. hehe, although I've seen a couple of vamps that made my jaw drop they were so beautiful.

and of course i still like 'normal' dolls but average street clothes is just boring to me, that's all. they definietly need a theme. :)

    3. I've always loved anything fantasy, so of course I will often find myself gawking at the beautiful fantasy based BJDs, especially the ones with wings and hooves. However, I prefer the human dolls to go with my ordinary human characters. However, I won't deny that if Soom ever makes a monthly doll that floors me (as many of them already have) and I happen to have the money to get it, you can bet that I'll jump at the chance and order one! I'll fit it in somewhere, somehow!

    4. They're pretty to look at but I wouldn't want to own most of them. I'm into fantasy creatures.. but it's difficult coming up with backgrounds and stories to ensure that these fantasy dolls can complement or match the other dolls in my current family. I really love mystical creatures and especially fairies xD All the colourful markings on their bodies~ But I don't see myself owning one yet because of the stated reason. Another reason would be because I think these dolls would need fantasy outfits to complement their characters but these are usually expensive or hard to obtain.

    5. I love fantasy and horror but I am happy to enjoy other people's photos. I love my one (fairly) normal boy and that's cool. I wouldn't mind hooves and horns for an accessory for him to take a cool photo but I don't need a new doll or character. Mostly I am in awe of the sculpting when I see the fantasy dolls; I love to see how they're put together.

    6. So far, it seems the only "Fantasy" doll on the market I like and really want to add to my doll family is Angelheim's Luka the Pan. I'm definitely more a SD person and I would prefer all my giants, as I call them to look human and have human stories to back them up.

For being an avid anime fan, I do maybe plan on having one or two of them cosplay but it won't be their permanent character and only if they look the role.

    7. Meh, I'm ambivalent about it. I'm not a fan of SOOM's fantasy parts that they include with their dolls but I do like the way they look. Just not really for me right now. I tend to pick dolls on their pretty face/mold regardless whether they're fantasy or not. I'm not a big fan of vampires however. Most vampire dolls that I have come across don't have the mold I like.

    8. I prefer more humanly looking dolls for the fact that they're more versatile in appearance for both fantasy and modern attire.

With a human-looking doll, you can make attachable/detachable add-ons such as pointy ears, horns, tails, etc. to get that fantasy look that may be desired with some outfits or photoshoots, while at the same time, if you want to do a beach party photoshoot it won't look so weird with a centaur hanging out with a bunch of teen-looking dolls on spring break.

    9. I much prefer fantasy dolls. They seem to have more character.

    10. I prefer fantasy dolls, in case it wasn't obvious. Half of mine are "creatures" attached/bonded to the human dolls. ^^

Which presents the logistics of needing to display them at least in pairs of dolls so the humans don't get separated from their creatures. They're fun, though, and much better than having normal human dolls.

    11. I love fantasy but for my dolls I dont' like fantasy bits. If I'm going to have a doll with fantasy parts they better have human parts so they can look normal too because that would be their look 99.9% of the time. I tried having a doll with elf ears but I really just do not like owning them at all. I suppose I just get my fantasy fix looking at other peoples dolls, some dolls I'm meant to look at- not own.

    12. Almost all of my charas come from fantasy stories, but they don't obviously look like fantasy creatures even if they have that element. I lean towards a more urban fantasy style, I guess. I prefer the versatility of normal human sculpts . . . if I did get something with fantasy bits like elf ears I'd prefer the removable kind. I don't have any elf characters though, so I don't see that happening. I do want a pair of wings for one character just for some photoshoots, but easily removeable ones.

I haven't seen that many elven or vampire sculpts that I like. Occasionally Soom's tinies get tempting, but even then I prefer the human versions.

    13. My preference is for human-looking dolls. I am waiting for a PukiFee, though. Even though the ears weren't what I wanted, the face captivated me enough to look past them.

    14. Sometimes. It depends on the face sculpts and the fantasy parts.

    15. No, not really. I only have two "Fantasy" dolls, a Soom Amber and a BBB Lilac Sprite. Those were the only two that ever caught my interest, so yeah. I like mostly human-like dolls. The more human-like the better <3

    16. Indifferent. Fantasy parts are neat, and definitely allows doll makers to innovate in BJD engineering and sculpting -- for that I appreciate them! But I feel that fantasy parts actually limit the doll's versatility. You know how in RPGs, humans are the most average race but also the most versatile? Same here, human dolls are versatile and can be anything, instead of being "pigeonholed" into a role or archetype, as fantasy parts tend to do to the sculpt.

It's because my imaginary/fantasy worlds are populated by mostly humaniform races. My dolls are of fantastical races, but they all look human. I'm not interested in owning any non-human dolls, in fact, hooves/fangs/pointy ears are a turn-off, and I'd go for the human version if it's available. If I wanted a Soom or other fantasy doll, I'll get it fully human, at most with slightly pointy ears.

Anthro dolls are another matter - I'm planning to get one or two anthros eventually!

    17. I'm actually not very attracted to fantasy dolls, which is a plus for my wallet =) I don't know why I don't like them, because there are plenty beautiful fantasy dolls out there, but I'm just not drawn to them. The only elf-eared doll I really like and would love to own is Lati Yellow Pury. Surprisingly, though, I really like anthros, maybe because their features aren't like fantasies that are human, yet not quite. Anthros don't really feel like dolls to me, maybe more like figurines...

    18. Well I'm so deep into fantasy things, that I think a doll which would be a fantasy-creature wouldn't suit my taste. Only thing I wish to get is an elf-eared head. I like Sooms LE dolls, but mostly because I like their face sculpts, not the fantasy themed bodies or stylizations.

    19. Yes,of course!I prefer fantasy doll to build them an imaginative story :) I see human everyday in everywhere so I like my dolls looks different than in real life. But I like human dolls a lot too,it depends of the sculpt :XD:

    20. Well, I love dolls as natural as possible.
No horns, no fangs, no fantasy make up, nothing fantasy.
I want them to be able to dress in casual human-like clothes without looking odd.
