Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. I've always been into fantasy stuff and elves, but the face and the body is what's most important to me first when looking at a doll. If I don't really like the face or the shape of the body, then I can't justify buying it just because it has elf ears or hooves. I'm also pretty picky about what kind of elf ears I like. Shape and length and whatnot. :sweat

    2. generally yeah. Anything that is specifically made to be based off a fantasy creature is totally awesome to me- omigaw, the day they come out with a naga ahhhhh

    3. I've always loved "fantasy", but not necessarily the "creatures". Wings and elf-ears are fine - sometimes, depending on shape. Mostly it's the face sculpt and the body of a doll that appeals to me - whether or not it would look good in a fantasy costume.

    4. I don't think I have preference, really... My first one will be have normal skin and be like any human, but after that I might get a White one with elf ears (I wish mine were all pointy irl) or something. Oh, but I do think small BJDs are even cuter when they have some fantasy bit to them. :)

    5. Yes yes yes... I absolutely adore fantasy style, i even want to sew my doll few clothes based on fantasy characters. Even though i look at the dollie's face and decide if i like it or not, pointy ears are a big bonus for me :3 (<3 elfs) If i found 2 cute faces and one of them had elf ears, i'd definitely buy the elf one :D

    6. Yeah they are waaayyy better.

    7. Call me boring, but I prefer reality. -shrugs-
Although I do like to see well painted hooves, etc if only to admire the paintwork. xP

    8. I like my dolls to look like my original characters...most of which are fantasy creatures of some kind. To be able to make my 2D characters 3D is mind-bogglingly AWESOME.

As to attractiveness, it's ALL in the face. Pointed ears do not a more attractive doll make. All the features need to work together and really make the character.

    9. I'm a fantasy lover too, and my first doll has elf ears..... I called her Tiriki , from Marion Zimmer Bradley's books "the fall of Atlantis" and "the ancesters of Avalon"

    10. Yep I grew up on Sci Fi and fantasy been watching it for as long as I can remember, grew up on shows like battlestar gallatica and Buck Rodgers (eek I so just gave away my age..lol) so I love the fantasy dolls, especially the many colored resins that RS/BBB carries. I would love to see more of other fantasy dolls though that are more animal related cat girls/boys etc. I've seen a few but usually in smaller sized dolls.

    11. I was never into horns and hooves or exaggerated elf ears, so I guess I would say, I like subtle fantasy characteristics, like pointy ears and tiny fangs. But I find that most dolls already have a rather otherworldly look, even without overtly fantasy characteristics, and that suits me just fine. :)

    12. I LOVE fantasy dolls :) But that doesn't rule my doll purchasing. Most of my dolls are characters in my photostories, and most of the dolls in those are fantasy beings. If I really love a sculpt and the sculpt is human, but I need it to be elven or something, I can just mod ears on. That doesn't faze me at all, since I like sculpting, and do a lot of it. :)

    13. So with you on the naga! That would be one that would really~~~~ tempt me!
Despite growing up on sci-fi and fantasy I'm not too into the idea of owning them but a naga would just be so much win.

    14. I love human dolls, but I also love certain fantasy dolls. Dolls with hooves and elf ears are my probably my favorites, the fanged dollies I'm not TOO fond of, some of them look alright, but most of them look, strange, to me. I love anthro dolls and think they're lovely and I also love the colored dolls, like the blues, greys, purple, ect. Pretty much any of that is awesome!

    15. I do love fantasy dolls. Hooves and paws are adorable to me and little fangies just make me squee. ^^ Small elf ears can be really cute, but I usually don't like the ones with huge ears.
That being said, human dolls have their place and there is something nice about "normal-looking" dolls. I guess it all just depends on the character. I have two different stories going, one is in a normal world and the other a fantasy world of my own invention, so I have both kinds.

    16. I've seen fantasy dolls and they are not my favorite. I really love elf ears though..I guess fantasy dolls aren't too bad! :P

    17. I've always been into fantasy and the creatures that are part of it but while I find them fascinating I think they are harder to relate to so when I'm writing I usually stick with mostly human characters. Because my doll(s) will embody those characters I am more into the human looking dolls, although I do have a thing for elf ears =D

    18. I'm in between really. I mostly read scifi and fantasy books, I really avoid anything that has to do with normal life. It doesn't interest me as much. Same with my characters. I love human looking dolls maybe the most but their characters are supernatural, I don't get along with "just a human". Right now I have only one fantasy -looking creature amongst my collection, a vampire with elf ears, but I'd like to sand them off because I don't like them that much.

Even so I love to watch other people's dolls that are fantasy -like! But I rather not own any at the moment.

    19. Posting again because my opinion has been changed somewhat since I last posted here; I was never into SOOM's fantasy themed MDs (not talking about the actual sculpts, just the hooves, feathers n fins!) and thought I would never be SOOMed but I adore their new fairies (Nenad and Mixi? Correct me if the names are wrong) and some of the dolls posted on this forum and member's own websites are jaw droppingly stunning, so I guess I quite like fantasy dolls after all, to the point where they could be slightly more attractive to me .

    20. I'm personally not one for fantasy dolls. While I like fantasy well enough, it's just not for me. Even my unrealistic characters lean more towards supernatural. For me, fantasy is things like elves and centaurs and mermaids and stuff, while the supernatural are more like ghosts and monsters and psychological beings...
I love the real world, and a lot of my material centers around psychology and real world problems, how people see the world, their feelings... etc. Twisting the average world into a deeper psyche is my favorite way of going about things. I can write about the most mundane thing in the real world, and make it sound dark and philisophical...
So short answer, no don't like fantasy dolls and I don't see the need for any in my future. I find average humans far more fascinating.
