Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. I love fantasy dolls, especially mods of human dolls made to look not so human. I've never wanted to own one though. I prefer looking at other people's fantasy dolls and keeping my own more 'human', I'm not sure why.

    2. I have to say, it depends on what the fantasy parts are. I really love looking at fantasy dolls. Sometimes I can feel a bit more interested in the fantasy aspect, but it doesn't really affect how I buy dolls. I love the bunny parts on my Mylo, and I don't use the fairy parts on my Nenad, I guess it's 50/50 xD. But the face sculpt comes before anything else, elf ears or not.

    3. I like both, but I have been leaning more towards the fantasy sculpts. I love the elf ears and tiny sprites.

    4. I love fantasy dolls I love seeing them and how beautiful owners can make them :) though having said
that I don't have any myself haha I mean I really like them but I don't think they are for me ^___^

    5. I love fantasy dollies! Well.., the ones with animal parts that is, but that's mainly because every character I've ever drawn (OCs) since I was little has had a tail, big fluffy ears or paws so it's natural that I'd want my dolls to be the same way. <3 On the other hand I would never own an elf, "full-anthro" or vampire doll because they're just too plain for my taste. Although I do enjoy seeing what other people have done with theirs. c:

    6. I am not a fan of hooves or the strange hand a feet sculpts for animals or faeries. However, I do respect people's personal tastes and I would never want to make one feel bad for liking the types of dolls they do. (Besides, they make and sell for a reason!) When it comes to vampire fangs and ears, I think they can be especially charming although I personally prefer small and dainty ones. The real fantasy bits that get me are strange skin colors and exotic eyes. I think I love that the most. :aheartbea
I love Soom Taco's skin and scukt and would love her w/t hooves, horns, and long ears. She is wonderful. Same with Soom Topaz Honeydew, such a pretty face! She's my absolute dream doll. :D
I suppose in completion I don't mind looking at photos of fantasy dolls but if it were my own, id probably do without most of the alternate attachments. :)

    7. Personally I like to see the pictures of the fantasy dolls, lbut I will not buy one of them, the reasons I can not explain even to myself, like some kind of tren in art, that I enjoy watching pictures, but no owning it. If they are angels I would think in buy it, but with horns, hooves or elf ears it is not a temptation, I will see the pictures and admire them, but no more.

    8. Yes! A debate I could consider myself and expert in, lol.

You see, 9 out of 10 of my dolls have fantasy parts. Hooves, paws, claws, horns, etc. For me, its not so much the FACE of the fantasy doll that I love, but the fantasy parts themselves! I think fantasy BJDs are so cool. The first time I saw one I was blown away. They were nothing like that boring Barbie brat. For me, I could get a human doll pretty much anywhere. But the fantasy/anthro dolls aren't as common.

If you get a fantasy doll, you could just about any head on it you want, so long as the head size fits proportions of the body size. So in other words, yes. I find fantasy dolls to be more attractive, but only for their exotic fantasy parts.

    9. Actually I like vampire theme a lot!! but I have not get any white skin doll to get the vimpire feel yet. I have been thinking about it though. Overall, I like them all. if I can get one I would be really happy too.

    10. ShinigamiDuoLover i completely agree with you i love the fantasy parts my dolls have, from the long elf ears on my beautiful boy to the hooves on my little unicorn girl their just adorable they really just give the dolls a whole other aspect thats just incredible ^-^ i know a lot of people love more "human" looking dolls and theres nothing wrong with that even i have a couple of dolls planned without fantasy parts but i think my dolls with the fantasy parts will always be my favorites because of all the work i put into them, having to search for parts and do resin matches when i hate the head or body, making sure everything is going to match up without looking weird, ordering all the parts, and when i finally have them all assembled feeling such pride and a sense of accomplishment, its the greatest i love fantasy dolls i think they are truly my favorite part of this hobby if every doll was human and looked like everyone elses and there were no claws/hooves/horns/wings/ears/etc. i think i wouldn't be in the hobby, to me thats no different than an army of barbies lol but thankfully its a truly artistic hobby where even the human dolls can be made into something fantastic ^-^

    11. I absolutely love fantasy dolls! Especially the tinies. (Unfortunately I don't own any at the moment ><''')
I think its great how, in this hobby, you can mix and match whatever parts you like to create a unique character.
      :)

    12. A very nice question to discuss, thanks a lot!
I also support fantasy dolls. My first one is an elf, and I can't wait to find him some proper company. To my mind, that's amazing to have a doll at home that looks like someone from one of your favourite fantasy-books.. Human boys and girls are OK, they are also very pretty, but the diversity is the spice of life, and for many people they all are just not enough.
I would be delighted to see a BJ dragon with wings, and fangs, and the jointed tail, and all the stuff someday.. it would be magnificent.

    13. I think my lot are very slowly all turning into fantasy style dolls. That, coupled with all my Soom wishlist...I'm gonna have an army of mythical beasties soon!

    14. No. I tend to dislike the "fantasy" aesthetic. This more applies to clothing, but as far as some fantasy companies go, the dolls look too beautiful and godlike and I can't envision a character in them that would interest me. I do have characters with special powers, but they dress normally. I also have a few characters that are forest spirit characters, but they are redeemed from a fantasy aesthetic in my mind because I replace earth tones with a smattering of neon.

    15. I don't like elves as characters personally, so elf ears are usually a turn off. There are a few exceptions, and if I have a character with elf ears they usually aren't elves at all. And as for vampires, not a big fan of those either, so huge turn off for me.

I used to really want a hooved doll, but now I'm not all that interested. Gimme a dragon doll and we'll talk though, that sounds like more fun. I might mod some hooves for that now that I'm thinking about it though. Fish/mermaid dolls are interesting, but really I just like fin-like ears, as it fits a character of mine.

All in all, I have more human looking characters than fantasy, even my one fantasy colored doll would have to be on a normal human sculpt. And I prefer realistic to stylized anyways. Except for anthro tinies, those are just too cute to pass up!

    16. Fantasy parts are really really cool. I'm always so impressed with the engineering and the imagination that goes into dolls like the Soom monthlies. I find elf ears lovely, and I like especially when different and distinctive ear-shapes crop up. Vampire sculpts that have beautiful detail around the mouths (I am thinking Luts and Fairyland here) can be very attractive too.

That said, I don't have plans for a lot of fantasy parts in my own collection, just because my characters don't call for them. I do have one satyr boy planned who will have hooves, but not horns. And I would maybe like a Sharmin head eventually because her switchable ears are such love :) I also have a couple of vampire characters, but they are not meant to be noticeably pale or fangy, so I will not be getting whiteskin or "vampire" molds for them.

    17. When fantasy dolls started showing up, I was fascinated! It was something so new and different. This goes for oddly coloured resin, even; I just *had* to buy one of the Misty Blue elves when Bambicrony released them, because... woah! Blue resin! O.O
However... most of them aren't anything special to me any more. I have some 'fantasy' dolls, and I like them, but I purchased them because 1) they were new and exciting and 2) I liked the look of them. Will I buy more? Maybe. But until there are some new innovations (and sadly, coloured resin and hooves aren't new any more), the 'new and exciting' factor is gone for me.

    18. I absolutely love all fantasy dolls more than just normal human looking dolls! It's probably because there is really nothing like them in the real world :)

    19. I grew up on fantasy and sci-fi but I don't find most fantasy dolls very appealing. I tend to prefer human looking dolls overall. I'm getting used to elf ears but I still don't care for them, and any fantasy parts should be removable to me. I think if I ever got a doll with fantasy parts I'd be enthralled with them for a day or so then be tired of them. I can't fully explain why. Even my characters that aren't human tend to usually look human most of the time.
That being said - I do enjoy looking at photos in the galleries once and awhile. Just because I wouldn't want to own them doesnt mean I don't appreciate the pretty in photographs. :)

    20. I love pointed ears, but not overly simple or overly long pointed ears, just pointed ears that are long enough to peak out from a doll's hair:)

Otherwise, I really liked the gargoyle wings on Souldoll's The Hanged Man dolls, but I didn't like the texture of the wings so I didn't go after one. And I absolutely loved Shoshon, still do, but I missed my chance to get him:(
I find his Elk hooves so elegant and graceful, and his lovely Elk horns aren't quite bulky like a moose's would be yet aren't as bony as a deer's would be. And I absolutely love his facial sculpt!

I like the fantasy dolls, but I'm picky about how accurate or well done they are, so far Shoshon is the only fantasy doll I've found that I'd be willing to spend money on. Oh! And Soom's Nelen, I actually am awaiting her arrival home, but that transparent resin is so beautiful, and I bought her with a friend, if I had been having to buy her solo I wouldn't have done it.
