Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. No. I don't think there's anything wrong with them either, but I don't have a special attraction to fantasy dolls, in fact, when I finally get to order my Pukifee, I'm planning to mod it's ears to human.

      8^)

    2. Even the most casual glance at my crew makes it obvious that I lean heavily toward the fantasy side, but I do seem to have distinct preferences in my personal 'style' of fantasy. I'm not much for the hooves/lower appendages. Only two of my dolls have unusual feet, and they're not two I play with most often. I much prefer my fantasy bits in the area of the head or hands. Nifty horns, shaped ears, pointy fingers... yeah. <3 I like wings as well, but they're incredibly awkward to work with, so I don't have as many winged dolls as I might otherwise be inclined toward.

Still, a good face will snare me even without fantasy bits, and there's always the option to add some inhuman characteristics later via paint or sculpey, or even just an unnatural wig. I have four dolls that this applies to. :)

So, while I do tend to look first at obviously fantasy dolls, I also look more carefully at them, and it's easier to find things to dislike. A good fantasy doll should push all the right buttons, not be gotten just because it's fanciful.

    3. Kind of~
I like so mystic dragon-like girls, or girls with horns...
Though I more attached to fantasy-dressed dolls - in some mystical clothes with some beautiful long white/blue/pink wig :D

    4. For me a doll is usually a character from my fantasy stories. It can not be only an elf or someone like that - it can be a human character or my personal creature but anyway my creation is fantasy and dolls are oriented on it. That's why even if it's human it should be from an "adult tale".

    5. At the moment I have normal people type dolls. However, I want an elf doll and just haven't been able to make up my mind on which one. I did see someone with one at a doll show on Saturday that I liked and was very surprised my mom did too. I'm the one that leans towards fantasy and she prefers the human dolls that she can dress up.

I'm not normally into vampire dolls but did see one a while back that if I had had the money would have snapped it up. So I think it just depends if the doll grabs me or not. However, elf ears always get me because it seems to allow for more fantasy in dressing them.

    6. Honestly, for me it's whether or not the face (and sometimes body) sculpt are pleasing to my eye, not whether or not they have fantasy parts. Also, I seek out dolls to be characters--and I'm willing to put in the effort to change them if need be. Elf ears are easy to sculpt with epoxy or other clay, and I haven't had an occasion yet where I've had to do any more than that to a doll. Fantasy parts are nice if the doll comes with them and I do appreciate what goes into the effort to make them, but they're not the be-all and end-all of a doll for me.

    7. I love Fantasy dolls. I find my creative outlet and my escape from reality in my dolls, I love having my Doll Sanura with her long elegant ears. :)

    8. i prefer humans. I've gor 2 dolls with fantasy parts, but they wear them time of the time, usually dolls are with human bodies. For everyday play I feel myself more comfortable with human dolls.

    9. i think elf ears are cute, but what really makes me SQUEE is a little ghostie. which will be like my second doll, but for me the most important thing is the cuteness and their little smiles.

    10. Not particuarly. I like elf ears well enough, but not normally the more extensive fantasy such as hooves, ect.[exception apply, of course!]Not against it, but it's in no way something I purposefully seek out. Especially not when you can't pick not to have the parts in the first place!

    11. I love fantasy dolls. ^-^ So technically, yeah XD

    12. In a really simple way, yes. I love elf ears! :D

    13. I like certain kinds of Fantasy dolls, but it depends entirely on the sculpts, I'm not really any more likely to buy a doll if it has ears/wings/fangs/hooves then if it where strictly 'human' unless something about it tugs at my heartstrings and makes my thoughts scream "THIS ONE!!!". which is just as likely to happen with a human-like doll. There are some occasions when I'm drawn towards a doll because of it's cute little elf ears and vampire fangs, or because it has amazingly sculpted wings or something, but there are also many times when I'm drawn to a doll because of how real it looks. Some fantasy dolls are just too strange for me, and they're gorgeous sculpts, but I'm not at all inclined to purchase or fawn over them, because I think that they're soo... um, I don't know. They just don't go with the type of doll aesthetics that I love. But all in all, I tend to like both types equally.

    14. The first doll I bought was an elf and he only wears fantasy garb, and I must admit I've had a fascination with the Soom Faery Legend dolls, but usually my dolls are decidedly normal, even by clothing standards. I, however, love fantasy sculpts sometimes. I'd say I'm a bit mixed.

    15. Yes, somehow I do, but it all depends - as others have said - on the sculpt itself. I like elves and fairies in general, so ears like Fairyland's are perfect for my tastes! Fantasy dolls (doesn't have to be elves, they could also be from the famous steampunk and victorian themes, or from greek mythology, lets say!) are interesting to me, because the stories around them and their personality can be more.... fantasy-like I guess? Something not of this world, if that makes sense. Reality is boring enough. I, personally, can get more creative with them, their stories or even their costumes... but dressing a doll in casual clothing every now and then is nice too! xD

    16. I don't see a point of owning one if you won't do anything special to it like fantasy features or dress it up :XD:
But vampire fangs do look a litte odd since they don't really fit that well on the mouth :(

    17. I love the fantasy bdolls that I see at meet-ups . The creativeity is so great. I prefer little people, elves and fairies. I mostly dress my dolls in fairy like clothes. Its all so great.

    18. Fantasy dolls are more attractive to me because I don't really like real people. The soom website it absolute TORTURE xDD
All of my dolls have elf ears so far, I'm getting a soom lami head (which I will make a dragon boy or or hooved & horned harpy, not sure yet.)
and I am getting a lovely kitty lady. x3 I actually sold my Bbb Apollo doll because I got bored of him and felt that he was too boring and I didn't like his face mold anymore.

    19. In general, I am not a fan of fantasy. I think the only kind of "fantasy" character I like are fairies, and I don't like when they have pointed ears... I just like the winged aspect of them. Some fantasy artwork is beautiful, but I do not see myself ever having a fantasy-styled doll. I don't think that I would even buy attachable wings for a doll.

Even though I feel that way about fantasy dolls, I have seen many other people's fantasy dolls that are BEAUTIFUL! Very gorgeous faceups and so many vibrant colors. They are gorgeous! But they are just not something that I would want to personally own.

    20. I personally don't find the appeal of fantasy dolls but I don't like fantasy to begin with. I think it has to do more with personal tastes. I haven't seen one fantasy doll I like.
