Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. I definitely love some of the fantasy dolls, but I think moreso if it's either a little subtle (just hooves or just a unicorn horn but not both, for example) or just interesting ears. I'm very partial to most interesting ears. I love my RS Rong boy's ears, they're one of my favorite things about him. ^^ If a doll gets to be too fantasy then it seems too busy to me, though. But a little fantasy is good! I like interesting colored dolls too.

    2. I own both human and fantasy dolls. I like that you can be more creative (and dramatic) with fantasy-themed dolls in terms of clothing and faceups, and thus I have more fun with fantasy dolls than normal human ones.
It depends on a lot of things though. A doll's face and body sculpt will sway me more than a fancy colour or optional 'creature parts' but if I like the doll AND it comes with magnetic wings or hooves or tree-feet, then that's all the better!:)

    3. I like fantasy dolls, but I prefer humans. In my opinion, I think there are too many vampires in the hobby or angels, and yet more human dolls often call my interest in their stories.
I have an elf in my family, I like elves, vampires, all be fantastic there. But I don't like faun legs, sometimes I get a little rough.

    4. I'm not that interested in fantasy stuff such as elf ears, horns, wings, etc., but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't find them attractive. It's just not my cup of tea.

What really fascinates me about these dolls is that some of them are so lifelike. They almost look like miniature humans with those carefully made clothes and shoes, not to mention that most of them are anatomically correct. I don't see that kind of "magic" in fantasy dolls.

    5. Hmm... I love to look at them, but the farthest I would go is maybe a pair of discreet pointed ears. ^^

    6. personnaly, I love dolls.
And, I find particullary interesting when people's dolls have a character. If this character needs fangs or hooves or anything, why not?

So, I'll say that I like fantasy parts if they're justified in the doll's character.

I've got myself some dolls with pointy ears, and a YoSD with hooves. I don't think they're "fantasy", just, it fit what I would like them to look like.

    7. This.

In my case, I have a character in mind before I buy a doll. The two characters I'm most attached to at the moment (my current and my soon-to-be incoming doll) are both human, so giving them fantasy parts wouldn't make sense. If I had a character with wings/hooves/elf ears/etc., the fantasy parts would be a welcome addition for me!

    8. For me, the face is the #1 thing when choosing a doll, so if I found one I liked and it'd have elf ears, then it'd become someone with elf ears. However, at the moment it seems the story of my dolls became a non-fantasy one, so normal humans for me, mostly. On the other hand, I'd really like one with hoofs and also Impldoll's Greta is a sure purchase. (Honestly, she's not pretty but she's become an obsession and I love her..) So I might start making a separate fantasy-style story with her and some other little ones. (Later.)
...Actually all my fantasy stories have been mostly with humans too. One old one had elf-like creatures in a big part, and now I wrote one with the weirdest creatures ever, but that's pretty much it. Elves and vampires and such just hold no appeal to me, they're too mythic for my characters. I love to look at other people's dolls, though ^w^

    9. Right now, I would only buy a doll that I felt resembled my favourite mythical creature. So I'm only attracted to fantasy dolls. Eventually I will get a doll to be a roleplaying character to match the doll my friend will be getting, but other than that.

    10. Yes. I've always loved fantasy and mythical creatures, so the fantasy dolls do seem to appeal to me more. That isn't to say I don't like mundane humans though, in fact they currently outnumber the fantasy dolls i own in my measly collection 2:1. This is probably due to be looking at the dolls as a case by case basis and getting the doll because i like it rather than sticking to a specific genre and getting it because it fits said genre.

However, when looking at other people's dolls i much prefer the fantasy ones because they tend to stand out more against the humans. No offense to anyone but sometimes after a while all the plain human ones tend to give off the same feel, and start to look generally similar to one another. The fact that it's a lot of the same few sculpts dressed in similar styles that keep showing up doesn't help either... :sweat

    11. It's funny to see the pondering of whether fantasy dolls were just a fad or last now going on two years later. I have several dolls, both ABJD and other types. So many of the companies out there do wonderful fantasy dolls and even with recurring themes seem to keep it fresh. I love the fantasy dolls and I hope they never go away. There is a doll for everyone out there, human or not

    12. no, I do not like fantasy dolls. I like only human kind of dolls.

    13. I think both fantasy and human dolls have their advantages depending on what you want in the end

    14. This. Because most of my characters are humanoid in shape, most fantasy parts would just look awkward in my collection with the sole exceptions of my MD Amber, Pukisha and the Nephelin that I have coming. Other than those three, none of my characters are really fantasy per-se outside of the occasional fantasy faceup. Amber shouldn't count though because her ears were unavoidable and now i find them adorable lol.

    15. At first I started very "normal" looking dolls, but then I got bored with them. I just started making horns and more fantasy like -faceups. Then my dolls became more unique in my eyes. I don't actually like hooves with bigger size dolls, but i'm looking for some paws if soom someday release more (I have breccia's paws already, love them!). I like also different kinds of elements and I often choose some colors wich match with him/her element (fire, water, ice..) or if he/she is demon or angel, I mix and match dark and light colors. I don't care if my doll doesn't have fantasy parts or even elf ears, a character is the most important and it lives in a doll anyway.

    16. I do like fantasy dolls but depend on which kind the doll is portraying :3. I'm especially fond of elf dolls ^^, I love their pointed ears and innocent look.

    17. I like both fantasy dolls and normal dolls, but I'd have to say I lean more towards normal. I have ordered two normal dolls, no fantasy yet. But two of the fantasy dolls that I am completely in love with are the Soom Ambers and Soom Heliots :aheartbea

    18. Well I like both fantasy dolls and normal ABJDs ! If I had to choose I might get a fantasy doll over a normal one. It all depends on how I'm feeling.

    19. I do love fantasy dolls but most of my characters are normal humans beings so I am looking more at human feautures then fantasy parts when deciding to buy a doll.

    20. Most of my characters are humans. In fact, only three big ones aren't; two are elves and one is a shape shifter who looks like a human usually anyway. That's not to say I don't like fantasy dolls. I nearly drooled when I first saw a hoofed doll on here. I would absolutely love to own a centaur or a hoofed doll. However, it isn't a priority, and even though I would be disappointed if they disappeared tomorrow, I can say that most of the people in my head are human (or at least look human).
