Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

1. Most of the characters I want in resin are humans too, but I love fantasy dolls. Love love love.
I wish I could have more BJDs with fantasy parts... I have only one demon girl at the moment, with fangs and horns. My biggest desire now are the Golden Light Children from Soom.^^ They are just amazing.

2. Personally I prefer the humans. I'm a big fan of classical literature and historical fiction, especially ones set in the 19th century. So, I'm more attracted to a doll with a top hat than elf ears. Although I wouldn't be opposed to an old-school vampire or werewolf, I don't really plan on getting dolls with ram horns or horse hooves

3. I think it depend what character you're trying to make. Like if I'm trying to make a Devil-ish character, I'll probably use fantasy parts. For me personally, I prefer doll that have human ear but I don't mind other fantasy part like horns, claws, and stuff.

4. My first head has cat overtones, such as broader nose and magnetic cat ears (the other hyrid doll bought at same time had it's head ousted quite promptly with the cat head) and from then on it was preference for elf ears where possible.

And now? Soomed!, as I love the fantastical feet parts and tend to avoid the releases which have more human appearances... think it is because I find them more fun for making outfits, hair and faceups and with more pressence overall (personal opinion) and they have definitely now overshadowed my human characters :sweat ever since young my favourite books were scifi and fantasy so that's where all my leanings go ;)

5. Nope, not at all! xD I equally love fantasy and non-fantasy dolls. Each have their own unique "thing" to them, and I think both of those kinds of sculpts would be a lot of fun to work with. ^^

(Personally, I don't find fantasy dolls more attractive though, just seemingly more popular. /shot)

6. I have little to no attraction to fantasy dolls. Of course, having just written that on DoA, for everyone to see guarantees I will probably have one by the end of the year:doh, But really, I do not like them and I like my dolls for their "human-ness". I do read sci-fi and a little bit of fantasy but mythical creatures (this is excluding extraterrestrials; aliens are just cool;)) get on my nerves and I don't think I would like to actually own one. I do admire great looking fantasy dolls in the galleries all the time, though. That's enough for me.

7. For me it depends entirely on the aesthetics of the doll itself. Right now, I only have one, who happens to be in the fantasy category (Bobobie Devlin). I do know that plans for more human type dolls still would involve - not quite sure how to phrase this - but non-standard human characters. Gothic-y, or historical-ish (I'm not a huge stickler for anything other than the scale looking right, so adding the -ish to clarify I'm not going for hardcore accuracy).

That said, yes, I have been a huge sci-fi and fantasy fan since the original Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica series, Project Blue Book (if you're too young to remember, it was kind of an X-files ancestor), and since I discovered the Lord of the Rings and Narnia series around 6th or 7th grade.

I also spent a good bit of time doing dance and theater once upon a time, and when I had the body and was young enough I could get away with it, liked to really dress up for going out to clubs. A friend once commented that almost all my outfits had a "character theme" - the bright colored ruffle tiered skirt with the square necked blouse, jangly gold coin earrings and necklace (they "gypsy" outfit) long black full skirts, ruffled/lace tops and a black lace cloak, stretch pants, high boots and a tuxedo tail coat - you get the idea. I think maybe now I'm looking at getting to do all this vicariously since I'm of an age, size, and health condition that's no longer conducive to that kind of lifestyle.

8. I For one love the fantasy dolls because there unique and gorgouse. im love fantasy and sci-fi movies and books on those subjects. they also put a new twist on dolls because of fantasy parts instead of having one look almost like a normal doll. even with clothes you can mix up the fantasy parts. i can make them into what i see in my mind what i would like like my characters to be. and i also like the normal ones as well but not as much as the fantasy.

9. I think they're interesting-looking, but for myself, I'd prefer just a human doll. I do enjoy seeing what others do with their fantasy dolls, though!

10. Maybe I'm weird but I don't like fantasy dolls so much. If I see elf ears on doll what I would like to buy I lost interest in that doll. It still nice to see them on another owners dolls. Still I have seen doll whose ears weren't humans what I liked. They were really pretty so I think it depends.
But wings is different. They look really nice in dolls. Though I don't own wings for my doll right now.
So I prefer human dolls more than fantasy dolls or how you can say it.

11. I think they can both be equally beautiful ^^

I mean I would love a doll with hooves, horns and whatnot but I would also like human characters.

12. Personally I am way more likely to order a doll if they have elf ears or especially faun legs. I adore fantasy :) If they don't come with fantasy parts or ears and I order them still, I always dress them in a "fantasy" inspired way when they arrive. I grew up loving fantasy and always was drawn more to things of that type than typical "human" dolls and art.

13. While it all depends on the doll, anything with fantasy elements in it usually catch my eye quicker than normal dolls :sweat As of now, I'm contemplating on whether or not I should get Bobobie Ariel due to its pretty ears. Even the doll I'm currently saving up for has a fantasy backstory to him despite being human.

14. I loves me some fantasy dolls. Both of my two ladies are ResinSoul, complete with pointy ears and, in one case, delightful purple grey skin. Seeing their little ear tips poking out from their (sadly neglected) wigs gives me great pleasure, and matching clothing to Emilie's dark grey and Henrietta's unnatural white is a joy. When I went looking for my first doll, however, I had it narrowed down to a Island Doll Jane and a ResinSoul Mei, and while I went with the latter and haven't regretted it, it went down to the wire.

Right now, I'll say gleefully that I'd sell a finger or three to get a Soom or Fairyland, both of which are fairly fantasy, but most of Iplehouse and a few of Luts are on that level too. So long as the human doll is well proportioned and realistic looking, I'm totally happy to order something without the pointy ears that so please me. There are certainly a few categories of doll "looks" that turn me off, but human looking ones aren't at all one of those categories.

15. I don't mind owning a doll with elf ears of a reasonable size, but other than that, I'd rather look at and not actually own. I don't see anything wrong with fantasy dolls, they just don't interest me enough to buy one.

16. I love "fantasy" type dolls with horns, wings and all that but when it comes to buying them myself, somehow I still choose to get a human type for my first doll because, sometimes I think it's easier to plan fashion styles for her even though I do know that some "fantasy" characters do look good in human casual styles but I still prefer having human type for my current BJD n___n

17. I think they're interesting. I don't mind having wing/horn parts, but I prefer not to own a doll with special arm/leg parts with hooves or claws because I feel like I'd have to get a whole family of them in order for them to "fit in". ^^' I sure love looking at other people's fantasy dolls, though, I think they're beautiful when done right. :)

18. I like them all, but prefer dolls with easy removing parts (like wings or horns), don't know why, but dolls with parts that cant be removed fully (like unicorn's head) make me feel uneasy~ But then again, maybe it's 'cos my imaginary world doesn't have that kind of creatures ^^""

19. Two years ago, I don't like fantasy dolls, modifications and etc. But now I really love them and human charecters are not so attractive for me :D

20. I definitely find fantasy dolls appealing, but I wouldn't say I find them any more appealing that human dolls. It's kind of even ground. I admittedly have a weakness for ResinSoul dolls with their elf ears, and hooves and horns... but I also love their human dolls. It's win-win for me, really. ^^;
