Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. I first come to BJD because I saw my friends' human dolls but since I discovered the fantasy and mythological ones and I falled in love with these.
I always love Fantasy (I would have written the opening post :)) and I studied Latin old Greek and History, so mythological creatures have a specialappeal to me.
I like vampires and elves too, but somehow I find them nearly as "common" than humans.
But when I will eventually find MSD size affordable Fantasy dolls, I will buy human parts with the Fantasy ones, to be able to change the form whenever I want.
I love Metamorphs : this way, I can play with both human and Fantasy words.:sweat ;)

    2. Personally, I'm not keen on fantasy dolls... At least, not right now, though I have been in the past. I liked them back when the world my characters came from was a fantasy one, but now I've modeled it to match my newest likings, so it turned out not fantasy-ish at all, so I prefer normal dollies.

    3. Personally I think Fantasy dolls are cool, but just...not my thing. I'm not a super huge fan of wings, claws, centaur-looking things and the like. Though a lot of my friends are into them. I do think the fantasy parts a creative way to up-play normal BJDs though. :)

    4. For the sake of a consistent family, I have been buying/seeking out to buy only gothic looking dolls, the only kind of fantasy theme seems to be vampires.

However, looking at the hooved and horned, the winged, and the the scaly dragon dolls, I have quite the fascination with them. I want to have a whole lot of fantasy BJD's! I grew up watching movies like the Labyrinth, reading Brian Froud art books, and having a fantasy themed room, so this may be the reason for that.

    5. It's not my thing at all. I havn't ever liked any elves, vampires or.. maybe I admit only horns like an item of personal doll's style.
All of my dolls are totally "normal" and I'm proud of it) Fantasy is quite not my style.

    6. I prefer normal dolls. In don't mind my pukipuki having pointy ears, but I am not a big fan of elves. Neither of vampires.
Although one tooth sticking out could be cute.
I do like the option of putting on horns, tails and such. For variety.

    7. Not always... I would love to have those hoofed little imps from Soom though!

And my Feeple Chloe will have pointy ears on her default faceplate... which is why I bought two human dreaming ones because I want her to look human. I'll keep the elf one for different picture opportunities though.

    8. I wouldn't say I prefer either. I love dolls as a fashion doll and I love fantasy dolls.

My boyfriend wants me to purchase a doll for him to turn into a demon and he wants me to make an angel as he loves that sort of thing. I'm happy either way as both can be equally stunning! :)

    9. Personally I only really like fantasy tinies, especially when it comes to dolls with interesting face-ups, but I do like some of the bigger ones with elf ears and etc, and YoSD's with horns and hooves are nice too. I'm just not keen on SD's and MSD's with vampire teeth and fantasy tattoo's, etc and I think that they would be harder to characterize.
Although, I do love tinies with elf ears and hooves, horns, anything really, they are lovely! :D

    10. I really like fantasy dolls... but I like human dolls as well. I think optional fantasy parts are always a plus - you can decide whether you put it on the doll or not, so you can eat your cake and have it too. I like it way better than fixed fantasy features. Except elf ears, these can be fixed, optional, anything - who can resist elf ears?

    11. The beauty of this hobby is that we get the best of both worlds. I love both fantasy and humans. I love the reindeer, centaur, and angel idea for them and have to admit I have both in my collection and they all get along just fine.

    12. Not I. I adore fantasy parts but I care more about their face. As long as their face meets my taste and I think it's the one I want, then fantasy parts are just nice adding. I guess I'll stick more the human parts rather the fantasy parts though. XD

    13. I started off with just looking for the beauty of their faces. Then I got some pointy ears, then fangs and then it just went from there. My latest is Soom Migma a violet skinned, winged, bat footed, fanged and pointy eared beauty from Soom. I am finding now that unless there is some fantasy element to my dolls (at least horns or coloured) I'm not really that interested

    14. I think that fantasy colored hair dolls appeal to me more than regular ones. I'm not sure exactly why but I noticed that I tend to go for the types with the colorful hair.

Pointy ears are a bonus but I don't find that I seek out a doll because it looks elvish to me or something to that nature.

    15. I think the fantasy dolls are really unique and beautiful, truly works of art, but I doubt I'd ever buy one because I love the normal dolls...I think one of the things that really attracts me to BJD is how realistic they are, how much they look like actual people. I like to dress my boys in ordinary guy clothing and create a realistic appearance for them, too, as opposed to wearing fantasy clothes...though my Orientdoll Tae has elf ears and I love them!

    16. Mostly fantasy based dolls....even the human ones have to have some fantasy element such as the wings on my Asura. In fact I mostly prefer cat human hybrids.

    17. I prefer normal human dolls compared to fantasy ones. But if they have fairy wings that I can use for them to cosplay a bit and remove when I do not need it, I won't mind.

    18. Usually fantasy dolls don't do it for me, but I recently got soomed and could not get zinc's face out of my mind and put him on layaway even though i'm not a big fan of his fantasy parts >< But most fantasy parts are not attractive to me unless they're wings XP.

    19. I did chose a human version of the DOC Petsha but that's just because the character I had in mind for her was Human. I don't think I prefer one over the other it just all depends on what character they are meant to portray.

    20. I have both but I do enjoy the fantasy dolls just a tad more.
