Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. Not really, but sometimes, depends what i'm interested in at the time, like I really want a unicorn doll LOL but this is my first fantasy part doll

    2. I'm a huge fan of elves, so it's only natural that I collect elven dolls. I think it would be weird to have normal dolls.

    3. It's funny but at this moment, all that stuff turns me right off! I've avoided certain companies dolls because they don't have a more natural look and I'm hoping that my first doll will be less anime and more realistic? (If you get what I mean?) I know these dolls are much more idealised humans but the real fantasy stuff I just don't understand, horses for courses I guess!

Now bizarrely, I showed a friend the website to give her an idea what I was getting and she loved the vampiric, highly tattooed, fantastically dressed figures, the very thing I don't get! I think for me it's the fact that I feel you'd be a bit typecast about how the doll was dressed, the things you'd buy for it etc. That's fine if that's exactly the look you want but I'm hoping my doll will be a little more versatile, that's the crux of it really.

    4. I like....both kinds xD One of my boys has elf ears, and a very elvish look about him. One looks totally like a normal street guy (at the moment anyway, he's done snow princess lol) and the other....well, someone has described him as looking like a vampire hunting priest, but I think he looks normal .... -_-

    5. My interest really only lies in "anime" dolls, not so much fantasy at all. Especially when it comes to elf ears and horns and such. I'm not hating on it or anything, it's just not my cup of tea. I also prefer the "anime" style ones over the "realistic" looking dolls, just because it looks "right" to me LOL. It's probably just my anime enthusiast side calling out to me.

    6. Well, my most 'normal' doll is by Doll Chateau, so I'm more into anime and fantasy dolls. This came as a surprise to me! Now, I only want unusual dolls. I'm tired of reality!

    7. I find human dolls to be most attractive.

Sure, I do love those fantasy dolls with only some small "alien"-features, but I don't think I ever could have something like a centaur etc. Animal feet/ears or something; yes, but only for the sake of photoshoots. My OCs are generally normal people, therefore, I want my dolls to be so too, so they'll "be" the characters. I can't bond with dolls that isn't "attached" to an OC of mine, but I do have some fantasy OCs, and I'd like having dolls for them.

    8. For me, yes, I tend to find fantasy dolls more attractive, not just because they have say wings, horns, or elf ears, but because the sculpts of their faces are often very pretty. I own an HZ "Wang Ye" that has pointed ears, and I say pointed because supposedly the company meant for him to be a devil, and it wasn't at all the reason I bought him. I didn't even know he'd come to me with pointed ears. I'm not an anime fan, so none of my dolls are modeled after another person's character. Instead, they are simple vessels of characters I created long before I knew of BJDs. Characters from graphic novels I plan to have published some day soon.

    9. I will stick to my humanoid dolls for right now. The Soom dolls are great but too pale for my taste and the elfin ears just kill me.

I sold my RS Long for just that reason. He was way too skinny with ginormous elfin ears that could easily generate a wind if he walked by you lol OK that may have been a bit of exaggeration but the ears were big.

As for hoovs, wings and the like, I do not think I would ever purchase any of that. ResinSoul seems to have a longstanding love affair with the horns and fantasy parts. I am very happy with my RS Gang, he has nothing fantasy about him and that's just the way I like him. I think fantasy dolls are great to look at in pictures, however, for practical play, and in my house, I would have to vote 'No' on the half human half anything else fantasy dollies.

    10. I'm a bit ( read: HUGE ) fan of fantasy dolls! I've even gone so far as to mod one of my boys into a Dragoon complete with large dragon wings and claws! Probably doesn't help that I have an epidos now too ^^; I love it for it's creative aspects cause there's always more to work on or that can be done, your imagination is the limit when it comes to customizing them but in saying that I could say the same about my more human like boys too given the that different faceups and wigs can change everything about their character. But at the end of the day they're all unique dolls and that's what the hobby is about or at least from my pov, to each their own :)

    11. To be completely honest, the ONLY dolls I like are fantasy. I find them cuter, more interesting for me. I have always loved magic and magical creatures, so it makes sense for me to enjoy them as dolls. That and it feels easier to justify them. If I had a human doll, most people wouldnt find them "special."

    12. Yes, fantasy dolls appeal much more to me than human ones. Especially ELVES.
      Oh the beautiful elves. *.*

    13. The fantasy is what draws me to the dolls I want to buy and the one I own. I have a fawn, and it was her fantasy parts that drew me to her in the first place then I found that I like a different head on the site that sold her much more than the one she was meant to come with I swapped heads and she's my pressious fawn that I'm so happy to have. My sister who has two dolls (a vampire and a human) I pick on in good fun when it comes to the discussion of doll shoes and how I don't need to worry about them.

anyway for me it's all about the sculpt, I'm really picky when it comes to dolls I searched for months before I found one I really liked and she just happened to have hooves, horns and doe ears. The fantasy sells it for me since I like the oddity/rarity, the uniqueness of the fantasy sculpts.

    14. Fantasy dolls do tend to appeal to me more than human dolls. They didn't at first. I only wanted human dolls because I wanted them to represent "real" characters from one of my stories. But then I found Yunae, who is a 5star TongTong and she had horns. I loved her, bought her, and now she's my little demoness. Then I found my mermaid, Aria, and she's been fabulous and gorgeous. However with her human parts she can pass for an elf because of her ears. (I love that versatility of her) I have two more merpeople coming (male and female) and two other fantasy creatures coming as well as an elf that I just purchased from here. So excited for her. And then I have Dev, my blue IMPL baby (he's something, not sure what yet though)

So I only have three dolls who are normal humans now, the rest are all fantasy-like creatures. Those are just more fun to play with, more attractive (to me) and I feel I can do more with them, plus they are the ones who get noticed right away which is always awesome too because then all the questions start.

    15. I prefer more "real" looking dolls over fantasy dolls. I am a naturalist at heart, so dolls that look the most naturally human are the most appealing to me.

    16. Elves, faries definitely attract me more...its the whole fairytale mythical thing...very appealing! I guess i always wished they really exist.

    17. I have owned 2 fantasy dolls- and have ended up selling them both. As cute as they were, I realized that fantasy dolls simply weren't for me... and in a way that's cool with me because there's quite a lot of fantasy dolls being released and they tend to be quite pricey- but me and my bank account are safe ;)

    18. I think elf ears are about as far as I'd go for my dolls, besides a colorful or more 'fantasy' faceup. I love looking at all the fantasy dolls on DOA, but as far as owning one... it seems very limiting to me. But I do love elf ears, even though I'm a clutz and my puki ended up with two rounded elf ears from me dropping her. -_-'

    19. I love fantasy themed dolls, like a lot. That's because I have a lot of fantasy characters which are hard to turn into dolls due to having wings, or hooves, and what not. I still enjoy regular human dolls, though one I got to be a human turned into a fox boy (as a joke I put some kitty ears on him and he loved them, so as another joke I gave him one of my fox tails and he loves that even more). Dolls and those minds of their own...

    20. I Love wings, pointed ears, and pointed teeth, 'Deformities' as some people would say, however I love how the accent of pointed ears portrays a since of forbidding feeling, and depending on the way the wings are arranged, a since of justice or malice.
