Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. I'm not really into fantasy doll.. but I like Fairy or little Elf dolls..

    2. I like both. I love how realistic these dolls can look. How, if their seams aren't visible, you can sometimes mistake them for photographs of actual people. That aspect is taken away from when they have huge elf ears poking up past their head, or goat legs, or whatever. But I also love fantasy dolls. In fact, I only have one human girl and she's not even home yet. :sweat It's all in the sculpt for me. Do I like the face? Do I like how the elf ears are sculpted? Personally, I'm not a fan of the really long ones. I like them to look like real ears, just a little pointed. I have an AoD Chi and a DS Xavor and I adore both of their ears. I like certain anthros because I enjoy drawing anthros and have some anthro characters, but mostly I only like admiring other people's anthro dolls. I only have one. A rabbit made after a character I have made after an actual pet I had that died. I saw him and he was just perfect for my character. I also have a thing for goat legs and knew I had to have one doll with hooves in my collection for it to be complete. I just recently bought a DZ deer boy from the MP because I loved his face and his freckles (the one I bought had the company face up and horns blushed, but not the hooves) and his hooves, so even though I didn't think I'd get another tiny I ordered him so now I have my hooved doll (or will soon).

So although I love how beautifully realistic human dolls can look, it would seem I prefer just looking at other people's humans, mostly, and keeping my fantasy dolls. Though I think the two go hand in hand. Even though they're fantasy creatures, they still can look so realistic that you can almost put yourself in the worlds you read about in fantasy novels and believe that these gorgeous creatures could exist. You can take them outside and photograph them in the woods and escape into their world for a bit in your photographs, the same way you can escape into the world of a good book.

    3. I love both, but not to own. All my dolls are fantasy based, and all have an outfit to suit that.
Personally I love looking at hyper realistic dolls with every day wear that look like they might as well get up and walk away. But they are not meant for me to own. I need to put my imagination into them, they need to be more special than the way I see the world around me. I would love to live in a world with magic and where people still shot eachother with a bow and arrow, but we live in the age of scenequeens and hipsters.
The styles that are popular with the generic public (majority of the world) are usually not something that I find appealing. To say it in a very basic way, I feel uncomfortable in a t-shirt and jeans and so I don't want my dolls to portray that feeling.
They pretty much all wear clothes I would love to wear myself as well. I suppose they 'live the life I'd love to live'.

    4. I like fantasy dolls as much as I like "normal" dolls. And I own both kinds, too.

    5. Fantasy dolls are more attractive to me, yes. But by 'fantasy' I don't mean only the physical characteristics of the doll, I also mean the style of clothing and hair. I can be attracted to a completely human doll as with one with ears/horns/hooves/claws, if she's dressed in fantasy style clothing ^^'

    6. Fantasy dolls are extremely attractive to me for multiple reasons. Each time I see an idea I've never seen before (scorpion tail, ostrich feet, dragon ears to name a few), I get excited even if I don't like the doll itself. It's the idea that intrigues me so much. I personally have a weakness for hooves, which is why I adore Resinsoul dolls, Soom's Cuprit, Sard, Amber, Beryl and all those others, and other companies that do hooves.

I also really enjoy the sculpture and engineering that goes into fantasy parts - how can we get it to stand? How is the weight distributed? How will the height difference effect the doll, if at all? That's another thing that always interests me.

The blending of human and animal form... there's nothing quite like it. I think it's that artistry that really attracts me to fantasy dolls.

    7. I find human dolls more attractive. It's just a personal preference thing I guess.(=^.^=)
(Although there are quite a few gorgeous fantasy dolls!)

    8. I definitely have a preference for dolls that appear fully human over fantasy dolls, just because I find them more attractive. But the characters I model my dolls after are not 'human', strictly speaking. My dolls are based on story characters I developed with a friend. They are supposed to be humans gifted with supernatural powers. So I guess they're technically fantasy characters, but not fantasy dolls.

    9. I prefer human BJDs, some fantasy dolls creeps me out! and quite find some ugly, just like those hooves and centaurs feet .... kinda weird, NO. wait.... I mean SO WEIRD. XD
But Elf ears and wings are kinda pretty for me, but even though I find them pretty, I won't buy one. lol.

    10. When I first started out, I wasn't keen on practically all 'fantasy' dolls. But now, my second doll (who is taking aaaages to get here) is a fox- spirit hiding out in human form, and I have ideas for a half elf or nymph (5StarDoll Ji, who admittedly is a human doll who look elvish to me) as well as a Greek mermaid stuck in a semi- human state. Although this list may suggest otherwise, I still am not quite so attracted to non-humans, but I am starting to like them a whole lot more :)

    11. Meh...I actually prefer the normal human looking dolls, I got an elf BJD and just realized that the small headphones I got him aren't going to fit his head. Clothing a weird-eared or horned doll, or a doll with other addition features must be a pain to clothe. I think vampire BJDs might be alright with me, the fangs I've seen really add to the doll's character.

    12. I'm very interested in the fantasy style for BJDs, and plan to start my BJD ownership with a fantasy character doll.

I also enjoy looking at other people's more realistic dolls... but for myself I'm planning to go the more fantasy direction, at least at first, because that best suits the characters I want to represent.

    13. The only types of fantasy creatures that I'm interested in are fairies, sprites and angels. Other types of fantasy dolls, as gorgeous as they are, just don't interest me. I passed on many Soom MDs simply because the extra fantasy bits don't tempt me at all. I generally prefer to wait for a human edition of any fantasy doll that I find beautiful.

Out of my 27 dolls, only 2 are fantasy-type (Soom Faery Legend girls), unless you count anthros as fantasy, then I currently have 2 anthros with 2 more on the way. I suppose I could also count my 2 elves as fantasy, but they are all human except the ears, which I never see under the wigs anyway (gosh, that's a lot of 2s in this paragraph ).

    14. Elf ears are just sublime. I don't have any elves, though. I wish the dolls I have could have elf ears. But I think I've heard you can get magnetic ears to fit over your own dolls' ears to make them temporary elves and I like that idea.

    15. Before I start: I'm not into the whole fantasy, medieval, renaissance, elves, or historial thing.

Are fantasy dolls attractive? Some of them are. I'm not interested in centaurs, hooves, or mermaids.

I like unearthly looking dolls, fairies, sprites, and animal (ears and hands) with really other-worldy bodies that are more elegant or wispy. I love dolls like the Tarot series from Souldoll, especially the Lovers and Leira, who both have fantasy skin tones available and just look absolutely gorgeous. I like big, fancy, upright, & pointy elf ears, not droopy cute and small ones.

But it all depends on what I'm in the mood for. Sometimes fantasy dolls are too much, and it's nice to see a good looking, old fashioned human doll.

    16. I like them both really, I think fantasy and normal human dolls are both cute. The fantasy ones are really unique though.

    17. Yes, absolutely! I do like "regular" dolls, and plan on buying one someday, but I'm truly enamored with fantasy sculpts. There are two reasons for this in my case: 1) The "unique" factor--BJDs tend to look very, very similar. I like a doll that stands out. 2) Fantasy dolls whisk me off to fantasy worlds. They inspire me, juice up my imagination, get me thinking. I like to write--so sometimes just looking at my BJDs inspires me and helps me get through tough spots in my lit!

    18. THIS! I couldn't agree more.

    19. I love fantasy and fantasy dolls, but at least for now my dolls are human, my children, with no supernatural skills or anything - if the girl can change her eye color from brown to purple, it's just tricks of the light or something.

The boy's in love with an older guy that - which he doesn't know - is a demon from Hell. So, even if they're human and always will be, time will show what creatures they'll meet in the future! I like mixing everyday human life and fantasy, but who wouldn't in times like these... (Harry Potter, Twilight etc, etc, etc!)

    20. I love my elf boys! It's one of those things of you always want what you can't have. "well, I can't find a real elf soooooo....." XD Not saying that all I want is fantasy, I don't want my collection looking like I'm re-shooting the Lord of the Rings movies....or do i? -shifts eyes-
