Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. That is a good question!:,D I like fantasy dolls, but not all of them - if the doll is the type I like, there are no problems, but I often see fantasy dolls, which are not so attractive for me. I think a fantasy and a nonfantasy doll can be also beautiful(: But I don't think I prefer fantasy dolls to watch or so on. ^^

    2. I mainly want dolls to be the characters from stories I write, and most of them look human. I think normal dolls are just a "wonderfull" as fantasydolls as long as I can give them the fantasy personality xD
other than that I am in love with almost all kind of dolls with elfears in some kind O.o
But I buy more normal looking dolls than fantasydolls -^^-

    3. It's really all in the face sculpt and how the fantasy parts are structured. Take some of Soom's dolls for example;if I had the cash I would most likely own quite a few. However,I saw a centaur BJD a couple days ago (can't remember which company it was),but I just could not get over how they had built his horse half, and would rather not own one. I also very much enjoy the elf ears that Bobobie uses for Jun. ^^
So it really just depends. :3

    4. I spend a lot of time asking myself which I prefer and I tend to flip flop between the two. I reckon it's humans more for me though. I adore fantasy dolls but they are a little...limiting. I mean, there's only so much you can do with a Sard really. Most of the dolls on my wishlist are now human.
I personally own a Soom Chrom and a Sard and unless Soom brings out anything spectacular, they'll probably be it for me!

    5. I really prefer human dolls to fantasy ones. While I enjoy looking at the beautiful SOOM fantasy dolls and elves from different companies on everybody's pictures, myself, I prefer plain human dolls. Even though I've got both Chrom and Heliot from SOOM on my wishlist, if I ever manage to snatch them up, both will be the human versions :3

    6. Oh my gawd, yes.
I figure, why have human dolls? I have to see humans every day. Humans are lame. We have no interesting hooves or horns, no wings or tails, and certainly no big ol' Hylian ears. Why, then, would I want to see such boring mediocrity when I sit down to relax and play with my doll?

      No disrespect to human doll owners, naturally! This is just my opinion, strong as it may be. ^^;

    7. I don't really kin on ''Fantasy"" BJD dolls. But one doll of this kind- Taco Soom. He is a little dragon. And I like him in this image. But, most of all I like natural dolls. Their natural look makes me feel fresh and calm. I think my mood depends on the appearance of the doll.

    8. I don't really prefer one or the other. I have both, and I love them equally. Future plans also lean more to the human side of things, because it's more about the characters that I want to bring home and the dolls that best represent them, than the dolls themselves. Even if the characteres are fantasy characters, sometimes those traits don't show up all of the time or they might appear human. All in all, it's mostly about the face. Whether human or fantasy, the face kills or sells it for me and I wouldn't be swayed one way or the other because of additional fantasy parts.

    9. I've found that I'm more drawn to the fantasy dolls, but the more human-looking ones, if that makes sense. I like the elf ears, and I MUST have a vampire one day, but I don't think I'll go for a centaur or anything like that. Something hooved might be nice, but I prefer the human-bodied ones for the most part.

    10. I love realism and fantasy equally. They look great in seperate ways, and I don't compared them. Like I'm so in love with the big Iplehouse guys and girls, but I also really want Leekeworld's A type body (with an off topic head).
I also have SOOM babies with their hooves and other parts and I admire how great they look, but I mostly keep them in human form.

    11. The main reason I got interested in BJD was for the customizeable and fantasy aspects that I can add/create/find.

Since I do fantasy artwork already it is naturally what I really would like to re create with my dolls. I have always been upset with the lack of mobility in figurines and the rather lack of full mobility in action figures. BJD seemed to be a great option.

My Favorite is Epidos because the horse sculpting is realistic. All the other Centaur's I have seen have been horribly incorrect as far as Horse anatomy goes. And me being an artist already my standards are set pretty high for what BJD I am interested in fantasy wise. Pixiu will most likely be my 1st and I hope to get him soon. I am still looking for the Perfect female faun doll however.

Yes Fantasy options are a must for me.

    12. fantasy type are so awesome!!!i love them, mostly the clothes!!!!!:D

    13. I originally planned on normal dolls. But it seems my taste has taken a turn towards fantasy.

    14. To an extent would probably be me answer.

I like a semi-realistic face sculpt, so the sculpts that are really out of the question for me are the ones with extremely exaggerated features, I guess? I'm also not a fan of really long or oddly shaped ears, though I find many of the face sculpts beautiful. The thing is, I'm not sure how I'd fit a fantasy themed doll into my projected family (really thinking of the Soom MD series here, but it's the same general idea with others as well), hooves and talons don't fit into my storylines, but they're so beautiful D: So I tend to look at the face sculpt more than what fantasy parts there are for the doll, I think if I were to own a fantasy themed doll, then it'd most likely be just the human version.

    15. Actually, the whole fantasy parts thing is what got me to buy my first doll. One of the reasons that I decided to get Zarek was because of his whole hoof thing. It just looked so cool to me. Before seeing him I was kind of just browsing, not really all that serious about dolls. I'd already figured that I'd drop the hobby eventually (as I have with a few others). Then I saw him. The whole idea of a doll with hooves was funny to me. Despite seeing several fantasy type dolls before, none of them were quiet as extreme as having a different body type. It stood out to me, he made an impression that eventually got me really into the hobby. Then again, I've always loved fantasy more then reality, so I guess it does make a bit of sense.

    16. If I see pointy and/or long ears on something I almost invariably want it. I like other fantasy parts too, like horns, and the centaur legs and antlers on the DC Alberta. But it's mostly the ears. I just really love elves I guess?

    17. I'm not a huge fan of fantasy dolls in the sense of hooves, paws, etc. But I have a few dolls with fairy/elf ears and one with fairy wings and legs.
For me it depends on what kind of fantasy parts they have, but I mainly prefer non-fantasy dolls.

    18. Yes,I prefer elf ears ,hooves and vampire fangs. Some of my dolls have these characters and this is the reason why I love SOOM and DOD ^^

    19. The inner trekkie in me screams yes, the brony in me yells 'Paint a cutie mark on a SOOM Heliot' and me?

I just say I like elf ears, hooves are cool but not my personal style, I like dolls with fangs but mostly....Elf ears. I dunno I just like the look it makes it look less...Human like and I like the unusual.

    20. Not particularly my cup of tea and I would be searching for a sculpt that would have interchangeable parts. I love fantasy novels and adore many of the beautiful creatures and eye candy on BJD sites, but I seem to stick to mostly human form. Tastes evolve over time and perhaps this might be an area I explore in the future, but I think it would have already appealed by now were that the case.
