Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. I'm really liking the little antler/unicorn horn headbands I've seen out there on etsy. I havent' bought any yet, but they are super cute!

    2. I seem to be attacted to the fantasy type more than they human molds. Then when I do have human dolls they are in the fantasy/sci-fi world I have anywho. I love almost all the sooms. Oh man, and now with a heard of four centaurs...yeah. most of my dolls are elf, vampire elf, or fantasy types of some sort. I only have 3 that will be full humans. I like all sorts though. Heck I remember when I thought I would only have boy dolls. Then I saw Topaz on soom and fell in love with her mold. Now I am going to have five girls soon.

    3. I'm one of those people who thought BJDs were creepy at first. I did not like how realistic they can be with well-done faceups and detailed blushing. Then I met a friend's Soom Amber and fell in love, even though she was an older model that had a bit of a knee problem and couldn't sit without popping a hip out of place. I had her for over a month until she was sold, and she really changed my mind about these dolls. I still prefer less-detailed sculpts (my boy is fairly muscular but not "cut") and I'm still far more attracted to fantasy molds because they're not so realistic, but I can now appreciate a well-done human doll as well.

    4. Not really...they look all fancy on the companies' photos but they have less flexibility in looks after you receive them...I would like to change looks for my dolls all the time but the fantasy parts might limit the possibilities. Also it is sometimes hard to buy clothes for the special fantasy body types.

    5. Yeah, the limiting on dress definitely intimidates.

    6. Fantasy dolls (especially dolls in fantasy colours) are really attractive to me. I have several of them.

As for 'limitations' on dressing them, mine really have no limits. I find coloured resin is far more forgiving than people expect it to be. I have no difficulty finding clothing and accessories for my blue and green dolls, and I think they look good in their clothes. I actually find my most difficult doll to dress is one particular NS doll, ironically enough.

    7. Yeah I absolutely love fantasy dolls but I meant dolls like centaurs or with big fantasy parts being limiting. Honestly though as soon as I can afford one I'm getting one and I will just have to make the clothes work!

    8. I love fantasy, and a lot of my characters are not entirely human. I adore long or unusual ears, and i find tiny teeth showing pretty cute. So i suppose i'm more drawn to some fantasy sculpts, but there are those that I don't find appealing and wouldn't get just because they represent a fantasy type i might be interested in. I like human dolls a lot too, it's really don't to the individual for me. =)

    9. Iim loving the elf ears more than the human ears, I think I prefer fantasy BJDs but with humanoid bodies, so they're easy to dress.

    10. I absolutely adore fantasy anything! All three of my girls are fairy dolls inspired by the artwork of Brian Froud. None of them have pointed ears though as I prefer the human ear look and they are all also human "bodied". I'm actually in the middle of customizing my two Souldoll Kids; they are each getting wings and horns which I have made just need to attach. My EID will not have wings but I am considering making her some elk inspired antlers though. :)

    11. I really enjoy both, the fantasy of different parts and the normalcy of them being humanoid.

    12. I do love everything fantasy and magical stuffs. So of cause I love fantasy dolls. But sometime they are so expensive T_T

    13. I will definitely go for a fantasy sculpt over a normal one. There are some very fascinating "normal" dolls, but in the long run I want my dolls to be utterly unique and somewhat magical, I guess you would say. I am not a huge fan of anthro dolls, however; I like having fancy ears and horns and all that, but I prefer the face to be human. Thus any centaur, elf, etcetera doll will always get my attention first.

    14. oh yes, I just love dolls with pointy ears and hooves, not necessary to have both thing on one doll though. It's my goal and dream to have dollfie with hooves - yosd, msd and sd xD

And I have no idea why I love it so much.

    15. I love fantasy dolls, because I find a human form boring. Sadly we can do little about that, but dolls can be any shape we want it (as long as we can sculpt it ;))

    16. I have 40 dolls and not a single one is a fantasy sculpt. :sweat I guess because they're all based on characters of mine, and all of my writing is in a realistic setting.

    17. How interesting, I too love creatures of the lore, but I am not into dolls with wings, hooves etc....I recently saw a face up of a gorgeous elf...so maybe if the sculpt was tempting enough who knows, never say never

    18. I generally prefer the more human dolls but I've seen some anthro dolls that I considered buying. I'm not really big on the vampire or elf ears and when the body goes too far from human it turns me off. I do like cat ears and paws on some dolls along as the rest of the body is mostly human.

    19. When I got started with BJDs, I pledged I would only buy fantasy dolls--elves in particular, as I initially meant to shell only one (then a handful, then... all...) of my elven OCs from a story/world I've played with for decades. I moved it more into "fantasy in general" to fit in a couple of additional characters, then an even more general "fantasy parts" because I fell for a couple of Soom tinies. :XD The first human doll I bought, I actually modded to have elf ears, because I still didn't mean to have any human dolls.

I'm now up to five human dolls at home, with more inbound and planned, but they're never going to be the majority, and the fantasy ones are still the ones that have a greater appeal to me. I'm much more likely to drool over new Soom dolls, or Luts' centaurs, or other dolls along those lines, than I am to fawn over the photos of more realistic companies. (Though I will admit there's still some human dolls I keep going back to look at! Less so now that I finally ordered one of them, though. :sweat)

    20. No, I prefer human dolls. Mostly since it's very rare for me to find fantasy parts that look exactly how I want them to.
