Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. Yes. I don't have any but I think they are the neatest. I like the fact there are more and more popping up.

    2. I love fantasy and sci-fi, but for dolls i prefer human or slightly fantasyish modifications like elf ears/wings... I'm not a fan of doll horns and hooves or paws, sorry ^^ I find that beautiful but it's not something i'd like to own.
Then again, you can have any fantasy-looking make up and costume for your doll whish is what i like ^^

    3. i totally prefer fantasy dolls, i like my dolls to be some what mystical and look like elfs ore vampires, for me the "normal" dolls are too plane.

    4. I don't have a preference for fantasy or human-like - for me, the expression plays a more important role than pointy ears, horns or wigs ^^; - or lack thereof (besides, these can be added / removed if really required)

    5. yes for me fantasy solls do have more appeal. non of my dolls chars are human (anymore). not all my dolls overly show their non-humanity, but they do all come from a fantasy background.

and with my background of love for anything fantasy, makes me look at fantasy dolls more, like I could simply not pass up Soom Amber, she is the perfect faun, and I had my Dollshe boy modded into an elf.

but on the other side there are enoug just simple human dolls I love to see and would love to own.

    6. i would like to have a great number of fantastic creatures: elf, vampires, antros...etc

I like humans ones but i really prefer fantastic ones!!!

right now i have two elves one kid an other adult, i will get mat if i find a mermaid 1/3 with a ball jonted tail!!!

    7. Yes

We are human beings and we are surrounded with human beings (normal, I know :sweat). That's why I have no realistic BJD and also why I do not plan to have one someday.
I admire the work on realistic ones and I'm very aware of difficulties to realize such dolls. But they don't attract me at all.
The BJDs is a way for me to escape from reality (which is very often difficult and gloomy). So I do prefer fantasy dolls/creatures :):).

    8. Well my favorite genres, are fantasy, asian, and anime looking dolls ^^

    9. Fantasy dolls are actually a bit of a turn-off for me.

The reason is probably that fantasy dolls are somewhat bound by their whole fantasy image. If you get a vampire doll, it's hard to make its character "normal" becuase the protruding tusk-like teeth have to be explained somehow. Elf ears are the same.

There have been dolls I really, really like, but something as little as elf ears ensure that I will never buy that doll. I prefer my dolls' characters to be average people.

I'm not a fantasy hater by any means, but I prefer to stay more grounded in reality.

    10. I just love the elves. In my humble opinion, they are more beautiful and majestic than the ordinary dolls. Although, their egos are bigger. :P

    11. I adore everything fantasy and thought that Sooms MDs were the be all and end all of fantasy dolls and that I had to have one. Now that I own a fantasy hooved doll that I thought I desperately needed, the reality of having this big, bulky unpainted beauty is...not as awesome as I'd hoped. He falls down a lot, is more awkward than elegant most of the time and...doesn't really fit in :/ Perhaps the novelty has worn off, perhaps he's a little too high fantasy or perhaps I prefer my dolls human who just happen to be within a fantasy setting without having to have hooves etc.

Maybe when he's painted he'll be the magical stunning creature I dream of but for now he's more a large irritating lump of (beautiful) resin that is tricky to pose and needs to be made up. I perhaps wonder if I was better off admiring fantasy dolls from afar where they are in the hands of skilled artists and those who have access to decent clothes

    12. I love love love fantasy dolls and buy them wherever I can afford them :) I'm a big RPG fan so the more elves and fairies and VAMPIRES *aherm* the better!!! ::fangirl::

    13. I love pukis with elf ears, but larger dolls it really depends on the sculpt of the doll. I think I would like having fantasy elements as optional parts, like having wings for my doll but not having to have them all the time. I think it would distance me too much from the dolls, or make it difficult for me to have them interact with our world as much as some of the other members here do.

    14. that's my worry with the realm of Fantasy BJD........

I would :aheartbea a Vampire, but would want a custom face/body-up, and I just don't have the skill-set (or money)

....so for now, I will have my "normal" and my "Holy Grail".......I can still look on sites and in the gallery.............

    15. I am a huge lover of fantasy dolls.
A lot of my dolls have elf ears. The ones that look human (e.g. no hooves, wings or elf ears) are angelic or demonic beings.

I am working on a background story about my dolls and they are from "The Higher Realms". It is a sort of spirit world, where humans do not live there. They live on the "Lower Realm", better known as "The World".

So all my dolls are fantasy creatures because I love those. I like them much more than human beings. I don't think I would ever own a human character doll. ^^

    16. I love fantasy dolls, and fantasy subjects in general. I tend to turn to dolls and most forms of artwork as a kind of escapism and the further removed it is from reality the better.

    17. I love fantasy dolls, simply because I always loved fantasy in general. I used to sculpt elf ears onto barbie. I used to put bat wings on my frog plushy.

I don't find myself caring much for horns or ungulation on dolls. But at the same time, I think it's because I have never seen such features done the way I would do them.

Elf ears, fangs, and the sort though... I love it. I don't own a vampyre doll. But I have an elf one and plan on at least a couple others.

I love the regular, more human dolls too. Most of mine fit that category. But the fantasy dolls are very well loved to me.

    18. I generally veer towards more realistic than fantasy because in many instances fantasy pieces tend to be more "cute" or exaggerated in proportion which generally doesn't appeal to me but seeing the Soom monthly dolls has pretty much blown my mind - I know a lot of this is because of the stylization and the resemblance to works of art I adore (thinking here of a lot of art nouveau sculptures and symbolist and pre-raphaelite paintings) but they've definitely jumped way up on my "want list", same with the Souldoll Zeniths (tho I prefer the human body on Chiron to the centaur one as I don't care for the sculpting on the horse parts, but then I spent several years producing realistic resin horse figurines so I feel I have a right to be finicky!)

    19. I prefer realistic dolls rather than fantasy dolls like robots or elves and vampires. It doesn’t mean I don’t like fantasy dolls, I enjoy watching at them on other people’s photos, but I’ve never thought of getting a fantasy doll for myself. Might be because for me some special, fantasy-styled doll is already a character with a certain image and if I get myself this kind of doll I’d have to choose clothes/eyes/wigs etc. matching that image (for example – black hair and gothic clothes for a vampire, some fantasy clothes for an elf…). But it may be just me to think so.

    20. I like realistic dolls a lot better than fantasy ones; I don't think they're too plain. Some of the fantasy ones are amazing, don't get me wrong, but it's just not my cup of tea.
