Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?

Jun 2, 2009

    1. I'm not really into the fantasy dolls at all. I think they're lovely but I have absolutely no impulse to own them. I bought a Glati and figured out within two hours that, adorable as they are, I have no need whatsoever to own one. I'm perfectly happy looking at other people's photos of them. I've never been drawn to elf or vampire sculpts either. I'm just going to stick with my human dolls, I guess. XD

    2. Are "Fantasy" dolls more attractive to you?
Yes! Very much so - I even what my human looking dolls to live in a fantasy world with elves and vampires.

I don't think this is a fad -or- something that will ever change. For me it is something I have always been interested in. In my collecting my interests overlap all the time. So this is one aspect of BJDs that will always be around - for me anyway.

I still want there to always be a varity of options out there for everyone. I love to see other dolls and characters that are not fantasy related.

      derk

    3. I think the normal dolls are very beautiful in their own right and i have fallen in love with them. But i am a fan of the fantasy dolls too, in fact my very first BJD has got elf ears, not because i like elf ears more then humans ears, but because she is based on an OC of mine who is a dark elf.

I would like to see more of them, but mainly because i love variation and the main thing i love about this dolls is that they are so customizable and added extra features to that to me add the appeal of the having a doll to look how i want.

Stupidly long elf ears i don't personally like, i think they should just be a little but bigger then human ones, but i don't mind dolls like that because it is another feature to make a doll unique and your own.

    4. I love fantasy dolls especially elves. My first bjd would certainly be an elf. I like them so much because I'm a fan of Tolkien's books. And I absolutely agree with said above that too long elves ears aren't very much attractive. They can be easily broken also.

    5. I personally prefer them "normal" but they ain't really normal cause I like dolls that have big anime type eyes.

They look nice though, I saw a cute BJD that had cute cat ears and there was an interesting one that looked half animal because it had what looked like goat legs or something like that.

    6. It's definitely a huge matter of opinion.

For me, I've never really been a fan of fantasy, and to me, fantasy dolls just look silly if they're not in period clothing and if they're set in a very modern place. I don't really like modern fantasy myself, I'm more of a fan of the Tolkien styled fantasy.

Though, I wouldn't mind getting a pair of ram-horns for one of my future dolls - the magnet things. As long as they're removable, I wouldn't mind the little additions on dolls...but only sometimes.

    7. I have humans, elves, and vampires, and 2 werewolves. So I am a fan of fantasy. But my elves are modern, and wear modern clothes. I tried for the Japanese look but it didn't seem right.

    8. I do find fantasy dolls more attractive than others. I love it that some people just pour all their imagination into their dolls and they turn out like elves, mermaids, and succubus. I think that when a doll represents a fantasy creature, that it is almost like seeing a fantasy creature for real.

    9. Ironically enough, my (only) doll is an elf-eared little lady...and I'm someone who is generally indifferent to elves, be it in literature, dolls, or otherwise. What attracted me initially was the expression on her face and her eyes; the ears were only a nice touch. I suppose I'd admire a doll either way, normal or fantasy-type.

I gotta admit though, functionality-wise, I think normal bjds win. I'm having trouble putting shorter wigs on my doll because of her ears (and I don't want to really poke holes into the wigs, either). Those ears are massive @_@

    10. I love fantasy dolls, but I also like the option to rebuild them to human form. Unless it's elf ears, I think they work with any style. I want elf Akando...

    11. Though fantasy dolls are very, VERY beautiful. I prefer my sill ol' human babies to death XDD, even though I have a human version adna fantasy version for them xD

    12. I love fantasy dolls! I have, out of all my guys, one normal human, and I'm trying my hardest to *not* figure out a way to make him end up non-human. All my other dolls are fantasy creatures (vampires, demons, imps, elves, a werewolf, etc.).
Only four of the molds I have are actually human looking, and only one of them is actually a human. Two are vampires and one is a werewolf. All my other dolls are elf, demon or anthro sculpts because somehow, regular humans just don't appeal to me as much as the fantasy critters do. I've said before, if I could choose between any doll with elf ears and the same doll with human ears, I'd more often than not take the elf version. The non-human boys and girls tend to call to me in a way most of the human sculpts don't.
Oddly enough, though, my guys aren't going off and having great adventures and battling dragons. They're more likely to be found buying (or more likely stealing) milk at the corner store or in the mosh pit at a punk show. I like regular people, don't get me wrong, I just like them to come with tails and horns and pointy ears.

    13. Do you have a tiefling? *looks hopefully* That's one that i have been dying to try to put together. For those who are not D&D friendly, a tiefling is a human with demon blood. They can have lovely demon wings, a tail and some have horns...i love them! :fangirl:

    14. I LOVE the fantasy dolls. Gimme some wings, horns, hooves, fangs, etc., I'm happy! My favorite types are the half human/half animal types. I, (like others), would LOVE to have the centaur... but he's just WAY out of my price limit. I don't personally have any BJDs yet, but I plan to get one, and I'll probably end up picking one with elf ears. :)

    15. Dunno about anyone else, but I have one something like that, but he's specifically a cambion. He's a half demon with wings, horns and a tail. Also, black skin.^^ Poor boy lost his original wings (they broke), so I have to get him new ones.

    16. I love most of the fantasy dolls that I've seen.

    17. I've always loved fantasy over hum drum real-life fiction books and such. I live in the real world, and I am bored out of my MIND with it. WHY would I want more?

Although I have to say I never quite imagined the extent of what I believed to be "fantasy dolls" until Soom Beryl came out, and she was awesome! I thought elf ears and vampire teeth were the most imaginative things ever. When I was a BJD newbie and first saw Luts' vamp-y teeth I died a little inside, in a good way. :D I needed to have one of them.

One of my dolls is 100% human so far, unless he gets turned by one of my demons. Unlikely, though. lol. But being the only "human" one makes him that much more precious to me, oddly enough.

    18. I would love to see more variety in the fantasy department. Soom is coming out with lots of interesting stuff, but I don't like their faces all that much, nor the posability of their bodies. I definitely look at fantasy dolls with more interest than random normal ones, if only because they're a bit different... But I don't own any, unless you count pukis, who have elf-like ears. :)

    19. Actually... no. To look at, yes. I absolutely swooned over SM Euclase, especially his romantic/sleeping head, but the ears - magnificent as they were - put me off. As did the thought of actually owning his bird-feets.

      I find fantasy dolls, even those with tiny fantasy elements like the cute little vampire teeth that Luts has had, or the little elf ears, firmly in the category of appreciating in other's visions and photography... but not to own. So, I really love to see Euclase in the hands of other doll-owners, and I'm very likely to look on Euclase and other fantasy dolls in the gallery section ^_^ Another example would be LTF Chiwoo... I'm sort of hoping they will release a non-elf variety at some point... ^^;

I guess I'm just boring ^_^; But maybe it will change in time as I evolve with my enjoyment of the hobby... who knows. Perhaps in a few years I'll be overrun with bird-footed elves, haha~

    20. Have you posted any pics of him? I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see him!!! :fangirl:
