1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Are YOU a doll collector?

Oct 29, 2009

    1. Hahaha hopefully not. I'd rather have very few dolls and work on them a lot than to have many dolls. Of course, if I was long in the hobby, maybe it is possible to have many dolls and have worked on them a lot. But yeah, I am denying that I am a baby collector.

    2. Yep. I'm very much a collector. I keep my dolls behind glass and everything.

I do like to tinker with my crew, and I'm very attached to many of them, but by and large I tend to think of them more as photography models or art objects than little resin BFFs or "projects" that I should be taking apart and remaking on a regular basis. I'm neither an artist nor a particularly creative character designer, so personally-crafted unique customization just isn't a huge factor in my enjoyment of these dolls. Having a few 'complete sets' of particular sculpts just to look at all together, and having a lot of choices when I decide I want to sew for someone or take a doll out for pictures *is*.

    3. As others have said, I wouldn't call what I'm planning on doing "collecting" (I only have one doll so far, but will get more). I might have a little collection of dolls, but I feel like collecting is keeping something as pristine as possible and hoping the price goes up over time. I'm assuming my doll will be well loved and have a few scratches and bumps and that she won't be worth what I paid for her. :)

    4. I have a collection of dolls for my hobby, which is the basic way I look at it. The dolls go through periods of being shelf pretties and periods of being changed and poked and prodded and photographed, so I figure collector/collection relationship and hobbyist probably both work.

    5. I think the main intention behind owning dolls is the difference between a doll hobby and collector! I think collectors tend to have a larger array dolls to display their dolls while hobbyists are more about customising and playing with their dolls!

I would consider myself a collector when it comes to porcelain dolls but more of a hobbyist when it comes to bjds!

    6. If that's the difference between a hobbyist and a collector, then I'm a bjd hobbyist. I like interacting with my doll too much for her to be a display piece :P

    7. I can't consider myself a doll collector because I only have one, and there must be a lot of people like me who only have one or two dolls but are into the hobby. I mean, I really like to be informed about new dolls that come out, know about different brands, I'm trying to learn how to sew for my doll (trying >.<), take better pictures, participate on the forum... so I'd say that I'm a hobbyist but not a collector. I don't know what I'd do if I had more money, though :P maybe I'd become a collector easily hahah!

    8. Nope, definitely I'm not a collector.
I only have 3 and I have plans for little more. I love playing with them like the dolls they are and I would be very sad seeing lots of lovely dolls caged in glass cabinets... So I guess I'm more the hobbyist type.

    9. I've always considered myself a collector of some sort because even as a kid I liked to hoard stuffed toys, books, figures, rocks, postcards etc. Collecting things has always been a part of my life. Right now I'm primarily a doll collector. I have a collection of porcelain clowns that are next to my BJDs, and of course I have my BJDs. My dream in life would be to have a room dedicated just to my collections, whether it be the stuffed toys from my childhood or my animal figures or my ball jointed dolls :)
