Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Are you hesitant to buy oddly sized/shaped dolls because of clothing?

Mar 14, 2012

    1. No. I mostly commission my dolls' clothes anyway. The person I want to buy clothes from lives only a few hours away, so if I have an oddly shaped doll, I will just bring it to her and let it stay there until the outfit is finished.

EDIT: I do understand your worry, though. I'm in the process of making a mini sized girl doll and she is far from averagely shaped. It made me doubt if I should make her, but in the end I figured that those who love her enough to buy her, are the right customer for this doll.

    2. I have a Realpuki Soso who is so tiny. I guess I did not realize quite how tiny. Clothes will be an issue, but I will learn to sew that small. So I guess the answer is no, it will not ever be an issue for me. I will buy what I am drawn to, no matter the size or shape.

    3. I wasn't. But now I actually might be. My boy is an awkward 63-64cm doll, and it's HORRIBLE trying to find clothes for him. Nothing I've bought fits properly, and I'm scared to spend good money on new clothes because they might not fit either. I've tried to sew stuff for him but I STINK at sewing. So he doesn't have clothes that fit him properly. I do not want another doll like that >.<
But if the doll was just that amazing I would consider it.

    4. Ugh I feel your pain. I have a 62cm boy and a 63cm boy and while the clothes I buy fit, and some fit well, a lot of stuff is baggy or awkward on my 62cm boy. My 63cm boy has a pretty shapely butt and wider hips than the other one so pants fit him tight, but in a good way which is sweet. ^_~

    5. NI have the same problem. It is not that I can't sew. But I do not make/have time for it. And I also look at the feet! that is one thing you cannot make...( I know that some people do make them...!) easy. And that are shoes. And I like to have at least two pair of shoes for the doll. That is for girl and boy sizes! I think that shoes also are just as clothes are necessaire. I really did not buy a male and female doll because of their size!

    6. I only really hesitate if it's a doll I have a really specific idea for and don't think I could make the outfit or wig myself. I suppose I would also be slightly hesitant if it looked like the odd shape would impede posing too much.

    7. Nope! Give me flat girls, give me anime boobs, I love sewing for variety!

    8. I didn't used to be? And then I owned an off-size doll (Iplehouse JID boy) and aside from the bad posibility? Shoping for him was such a pain. I'm far more hesitent now to go with something that doesn't fit into the "standard" sizes now because of it. Sewing isn't really my thing, and I'm a fashion nut, so getting good cloths for my dolls that I don't have to make myself is important.

That said, if a company who does off sizes did their own cloths? I'd be far more tempted by them. This was originally why I opted for the JID. But the clothing was so bleh and limited in the end that it didnt' make him worth keeping.

    9. Even though I can sew, I prefer my dolls to be close enough in size/shape to share clothes/shoes/wigs because I'm too lazy to make individually tailored outfits for each doll separately.

    10. Yes, I would be hesitant, unless there is something very special about the body. Like, if it was a fantasy-elf-satyr-thing-with-antlers, or a mermaid, or a really weird body like DC.

I would really need to have a good reason for buyig a doll like that, and a clear character.
And they would need clothes that aren't hard for me to make (Small, tattered and such)

    11. I can't sew, so it is annoying to have many odd-sized/shaped dolls (JID, SID, EID, Lotus Near, Limhwa 68cm, SDC). But it never stops me from buying-- my reasoning is that SOMEbody, somewhere, will someday make clothing for that size doll. This seems to work. Eventually, all the guys in the house end up looking fabulous somehow. Life is too short to avoid buying a gorgeous thing just beacuse it's hard to find pants for.

If I must, I commission. It is great to have at least 1 good friend who can really sew pants well. If a doll has at least 1 perfect pair of pants, then I'm happy to leave him in them almost indefinitely.

    12. As others have said, unless you sew for yourself (like I do) or commission your outfits it can be hard to find clothes for oddly sized/shaped dolls. Bimong had an oddly sized MSD type (Dandelion/Mindulrae)-- he ended up making a more uniform MSD size body for it, because people had such a hard time clothing her.

Also, there's a difference between an oddly shaped doll in a standard size range (i.e., 1/3, 1/4) and a completely different scale, as you are talking about. Some well-known artists (like Armelia) have produced dolls in unique scales, but they already had a huge following when they did so. As a new artist, it might be better to stick to a standard size, at least at first.

    13. Yes, but it's never stopped me. I have 3 Rosette's which I CAN sew for, had Lati Green's which never changed clothes, a DM Glamour Model girl who I can get clothes for from Dollmore, A Cerisedolls Eugenie which I can also sew for and buy things for.

But it is nice to have standard sizes which are easy to fit.

    14. I could never own a Doll Chateau for that reason (and the fact that they're so emaciated...). It's incredibly challenging searching for pants that could fit them.

    15. I don't mind, if I love the doll I wouldn't hesitate. I will try to make clothes myself, or commission someone to make clothes. And would probably waste a lot of money trying to make him or her fit into something XD

    16. I'm trying to learn to sew, so that's fine. And I guess it cuts back of buying clothes with reckless abandon. xD

    17. The only other doll size i want besides MSD would be PukiPuki, because im not sure what kind of clothing Would fit them... and i cant sew so That wouldnt help me at all xD

    18. I love odd shapes, but since I have neither time nor skill to make clothes myself I haven't dared buy a doll with an unusual body type yet. Like many others I really want a Doll Chateau lady, but I'm afriad I'll leave her sitting there naked for far too long... Of course one could always order custom made outfits but so far I haven't found anyone who makes outfits for the sculpt I want in the style I'd want for her. But who knows, maybe one of these days I'll find the time to practise making outfits myself. :3

If I could make clothes myself I would probably buy nothing but oddly sized/shaped dolls, because I do prefer them aesthetically.

    19. Hahah, I'm actually going through this right now. I really want an Angelsdoll massive body, but I'm hesitant precisely because it's such a nonstandard size and clothing will be a pain. I do want to learn to sew, but there's a lot of really nice outfits out there, and I don't want the doll to stay naked until I stop sucking.

Will I still buy it? Ask me in a couple of months.

    20. I always choose my dolls because I falled in love with her. I have a Saiph (mecha angel from Soom) and I love her just because she's wonderful ^^
And there are some very talented designers on forums. In addition, it allows to have unique clothing :)
