It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Are you hesitant to buy oddly sized/shaped dolls because of clothing?

Mar 14, 2012

    1. It is a factor in my decision, yes. At this point my collection of dolls is pretty much "set" and I have clothes/shoes/wigs that fit all of them. I don't sew or make wigs so I have to buy or commission those items. If I were contemplating buying a doll that had an unusually-shaped or odd-sized body or head or feet, I would factor in the additional cost of purchasing clothes and wigs for the doll before I made a final decision.

But I don't know that I would ever NOT buy a doll just because of that. For me, it would just be another issue to think about before I decided to buy or not.

    2. I make the majority of clothes for my dolls, so an unusual body shape wouldn't phase me in the decision, except for a matter of aesthetics. For the longest time I thought Doll Chateau's dolls were ugly and weird, but then the look grew on me and now I'm saving up for one. I also think different body types bring some much-needed diversity to the hobby. Of course it's a matter of personal preference, but I'm all for different body types. ^u^

    3. I think, like a lot of people, it's more of a matter of aesthetics than anything else for me. I am learning to sew, so an odd-shaped body would present a nice challenge/an opportunity to expirament. You can also get some clothes custom made from outside sources, so it wouldn't be completely impossible to clothe a doll with non-standared shapes and sizes.

    4. Nope. All of my current dolls are a bit oddly shaped. One of them can take slim mini tops but not pants, and my tinies are immature slim yosd's. It just means that I have had to learn how to make them stuff. I'm planning on eventually getting a Mikhaila as well, I figure that if I like the doll enough to get it, whether or not I can find them clothes is not a problem.

    5. I am a little hesitant yes.
If the doll required it's own unique kind of clothes that I have to order from the company I would probably pass, lol. I know people spring up to make custom clothes but Im just not interested in the hassle. I like to have a lot of options for clothing, a general size that is easy to find on almost any doll clothes site.
Then again if I seriously fell for the doll then I might be willing to give it a shot! :)

    6. I got a Leekworld Mikhaila about a month ago. she about the oddest shape I have ever seen in a MSD doll. Its not been easy to find outfits that I like that fit but I have managed to get her a rather nice few outfits up and all. I was not sure about getting her as she is such a odd combo of sizes but her cute face and the roseskin color won me over. I really don't regret getting her now at all.

    7. Hahaha. Nope. I have inadvertently ended up with about half of my guys being oddly shaped or sized - or at least not the 'standard'. I don't mind because I like sewing clothes for them, so anything that I make will be tailored to fit them. If I buy something then it's bound to fit at least one of my little guys... If it doesn't, it's no big deal to make some simple adjustments. So I'm not bothered at all. In fact I like having some variation. Makes them more interesting.

    8. I say "bring it on", cuz well, I like a frustrating challenge. xD I am just that determined to make things on my own, modify clothing, make wigs, what have you, to fit an oddly shaped doll.

I like doing things that make you have to think, problem solve, and pull your hair out. :I Critical thinking is a p.i.t.a, but it is SO rewarding when you finally have whatever you are making finished!

I won't like, make a historically correct and elaborate ball gown with all the bells and whistles, of course. I hand sew. That would just KILL my fingers and my eyes. @_@ And I just don't have any skill for that sort of thing. lol

    9. Yes, I would be hesitant to buy a doll with unique proportions. I only own two sets of clothes and two pairs of shoes for my two 70cm dolls; there just aren't a lot of options for them. I still really like them, but now I'm staying within the SD13-SD17 size range. There's a greater variety of selections and it's a lot more fun coordinating outfits.

    10. I sew my doll clothes myself, so the body shape isn't an issue in matter of clothes (it is more difficult for the shoes, when the feet size is unusual...). If the doll has a common shape, then it's easier to find clothes, but if it hasn't, it's not a big problem ;)

    11. Before I would have said no, but now that I've owned a couple of odd-sized dolls I'm actually more hesitant about it. It wouldn't be a complete dealbreaker, but while I'm starting to sew a little bit and will occasionally commission items, I'd much rather have a wide range of clothing and (especially) shoes to choose from. It can be hard enough finding just what I want in common sizes. :sweat I also really enjoy some of the more outrageous limited outfits that come out here and there, which I can take advantage of with my mostly common-sized group.

    12. I probably will be hesitant now that I own a hand sized slim doll. I barely sew so I have no idea how to fit things. I don't like buying clothes for them either. I might have an easier time sewing for bigger dolls but their price scars me.
In the end, I will buy the ones I love to own and do the best that I can providing for them(which includes getting better at sewing and prop making.)

    13. I sew a lot of my doll's clothes, so no, it wouldn't deter me from buying a doll I wanted. I've also found over time that sizes which look odd aren't always so, and can wear more "average sized" clothes than people think.

    14. I would rather go with what is more pleasing to my eye and worry about the clothes later. If it came down to it I'd just make my own or have someone make them for me. It's more fun to have your dolls unique looking anyway, so why not go the extra mile if you get a differently shaped doll?

    15. I definitely think twice before considering getting a doll that isn't standard size/proportions. Clothes are most of the fun of BJD for me anymore and I like to have a good variety to choose from for a new doll I plan to buy. I don't think I'd ever get a doll that I couldn't fairly easily find or would have to commission all the outfits for.

    16. Would you be more hesitant to buy a oddly shaped/size doll because it would be difficult to find clothes? Or would you prefer to buy that kind of doll, because its more unique, and you make your own clothes anyway?
I'd be somewhat hesitant, yes. I have two dolls that are difficult to clothe, and it can get frustrating at times. I don't sew (I tried and failed miserably), which is why I must either buy pre-made outfits or commission them, neither of which I mind. However, with a very oddly-sized doll, it is not easy finding tailors who are able to create clothing for them.

Having said that, if I absolutely love the doll and, in the case of lack of available clothes, love the sculpt of the body, I'd buy her. If the body is sculpted beautifully, I can blush it and display her nude while I search for outfits.

Also, besides clothing, would there be any reason you would be hesitant to buy an unusually sized or shaped doll?
Somewhat of a consideration would be how she fits in with the rest of my crew. I don't like displaying dolls that don't look like they can be part of the same world together. If the oddly shaped doll won't go with anyone I currently have, I will have to love her a lot to bring her home. Right now, I have one doll that has to sit by herself due to being the odd one out and I'd rather not have to find another solitary spot for a newcomer.

But, as I mentioned above, if I absolutely adore the doll, I'll buy her and find a way to make her fit in with the rest of my girls.

    17. I have the same anxiety in my head. My eyes were caught by a 17-cm Rabbit. But there are really rare clothes to be on sale. I am still wondering if I should decide to make an order.

    18. I do not make anything for my dolls and I have bought too many things already

so yes I do try to stay in the sizes which will work together

    19. Not much talent for sewing, so I worry too much about the size and shape of the doll before buying.

    20. I don't love not being able to find the clothing I picture for a character but if the doll itself is right, I will buy the doll and worry about clothing later. It has been a disappointment to not have much clothing for my 80cm Mecha Angel but he has a few things. I have a Souloid on the way and I am hoping he fits into some of the clothing from my previous mini but if not he' will stick to his fullset or run around naked. Well, as naked as he can be considering all the mechanics.
