1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Are you tired of new companies every week?

Feb 21, 2009

    1. I have to agree with some of the others. While it's -great- to have more dolls out there to pick from, there's a -serious- lack of doll -stuff-. i saw someone mention furniture, I completely second that, I see stores offering puki sized stuff, but that stuff is super easy to find, it's a standard size even for the north american market. Places like Iplehouse used to sell beautiful tables -and- beds, and now there's just beds, and dollmore is nice enough to have couches, but they are strange and somewhat eccentric in shape. I'm sure it's a thrill to cash in on the BJD market, but how about holding off an extra few days, weeks, months, and working out some clothes/accessories/props, shoes etc too. There's no shortage of dollshes out there either, I own 2, but for some reason almost no one carries clothes that really fit them, some of these new guys should try cash in on that. There's also a serious lack of more easily available "casual" clothes, everything is loli, goth, kodona, suits, plain jeans......how about some more b-boy style, historical, themes like steampunk or futuristic even. Even if they're all limited runs. I'm voicing my thoughts on this other stuff in hopes that some of these new companies might stop by here and read some of this.

      I'm done rambling >_>

    2. Well, Bobobie did ask for opinions on their 50cm body...and Dennis didn't complain when people did give their opinions both negative and positive. Bobobie took the criticism quite well and worked on some of the biggest flaws. When you ask for opinions on your work, you can't really complain when people give you their thoughts on the subject :sweat

I'd like to see good bodies being sculpted that have been made by someone who has a good knowledge of humanoid anatomy. I'm not thinking revolutionary joints or anything like that, just more well made bodies that look human. There's an overabundance of thin, bishie bodies for boys and more muscular sculpts like Iplehouse's EID body are only just filtering through, but it would be quite nice to see a body that would actually belong on the average man! An everywoman body would be good too, I'd love an SD-sized Domadoll Okja, with her chunky thighs and her muffin top.

It would be great to see a big company tackle the props problem too. I'd love to be able to get a flatpack SD-sized bed or a sofa.

    3. I've noticed that too, that a lot of new companies have sprouted up, but it doesn't bother me. Just spins my head a little, and yes, some of the dolls seem to be look-a-likes, a few of them. When I go on that certain auction site I've seen several new companies, but I remember when one of my favs was just starting out, so overall I think it's good.

    4. Well, one is bound to run into similarities sooner or later. I think more companies just mean more opportunity for doll owners, as well as more diversity. It wouldn't be as fun if everyone owned the same doll or just dolls from the same company.. plus, I always love seeing new doll molds come out because I have so many characters that just don't have a suiting mold yet!!

    5. Personally, I like it - it means more choices and more places to shop and compare between one company's dolls and another. However, I do know how you feel in terms of the dolls beginning to look alike. After browsing a heap of company sites, I start thinking I've seen Doll A over at another company before. But, there slight differences in features most of the time.

    6. Yes. It's a recent thing, but yes, I'm definately tired of all the new dolls, especially because.. well, most of them aren't all that great. They either try and do something really new and ambitious and end up with a doll that's out of the 'average' sizes or doesn't meet the aesthetic, or they do something run of the mill, limiting their creativity to fitting into the general shape and size of the average and just making something.. boring.

I do like the new stuff we're getting in terms of hooves, horns, jointed hands, wings, etc.. the only problem is that these things are generally made to match only the dolls of that company, and if you don't like their dolls, you're limited again. If you're really intent, you can go through the 'painting to match' and funky mix-and-match game, but for most collectors, we'd just rather our preferred company listen to what we want to see instead of giving our business to competitors over a monopoly. I really wish that Volks or Luts would catch onto the whole "doll novelty" idea and start making this stuff for themselves.

And yes, furniture availability and 'normal' clothes are also large issues that need addressing.

    7. Personally, I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the newer companies. When I first looked at the Volks dolls I thought that I would never ever consider buying one. I still don't.

Alot of people look at the new companies and never give them a second glance and they are really missing out. I did that with a few companies only to find myself adding them to my wishlist months later. I consider myself to be a huge Resinsoul/Bobobie stan. I was won over by their customer service b/c they are always looking for ways to improve their dolls (has anyone noticed the new joints on their 60cm dolls) and how they bend over backwards to make the customer happpy (something I have not expirienced with Soom).
I'm not saying that all the new companies are like thos (b/c some of them are just downright disappointing). I just wish people wouldn't lump "new" with "cheap" and "low quality".

Frankly I want to see new clothing companies, I'm one of those people who have one of their dolls in a sock dress b/c they can't find any good clothing for a 70cm-80cm doll (I can't sew to save my life). These doll are getting bigger and bigger, so I think someone should make bigger clothes.

    8. This.

I always check out the new companies that pop up, but not for their doll sculpts. (I know what I like on that front, and none of the newer companies have ever come close. :sweat ) No... I look at their sites to see what they have in the way of outfits, shoes and props. To find out if they have anything that might suit the dolls from older companies that I already own.

Finding clothes for a long-legged Super Gem guy isn't easy, for example, and I certainly wouldn't say no to a nice outfit with the right proportions *just* because it was made by a new company, or for a sculpt that appeals to me a lot less than Vincent does.

    9. I don't mind new companies, but some of them have dolls that don't look very well sculpted, or they seem like they were rushed projects. In the past year, only one new company for dolls really sticks out in my mind, and that's Everpurple, and that doll was above and beyond beautiful because of how clean it looked.

And I agree with anyone who's said that they'd rather see new clothing companies than doll companies.

    10. Not really more companies means more lovely BJDs :) But things like this don't really help my indecision.

    11. I would LOVE it if more of them had something new and exciting to bring, but a lot of them are just like.. meh. D:
I really really really can't tell most of them apart. Sometimes I see one that keeps my interest for like a day, but nothing really spectacular.

I'm looking at Everpurple right now, and it's one of the better ones (I hadn't heard of it before) really pretty nice.. wow, the faces are actually pretty gorgeous. But I still feel like... I dunno.
Someone has to do something NEW soon. REALLY new.

    12. I quite like seeing the variety of the newer companies. I mean I've got quite a number of dolls from companies that only do heads. I love them all. I mean really, I wouldn't be here if it weren't for Crobidoll - and they were a NEW company when I first found them, I remember when Crobi had Yeon Ho and ONE other doll for sale.

Of course I'm as picky as anyone else, but I love the fact I get all of these places to pick and choose from.

    13. Yeah, :P It's nice to have more variety but I think a lot of it is just more people jumping on the bandwagon of bjd-hype.

      I really hate the idea of this many companies. A lot of them are just bad quality and don't even get recognized ;_;
But on the other hand I DON'T hate it because it offers a lot of new bodies and ideas..
      So I don't really know... ;_;

    14. Mmm... It's like "whatever" to me...
If the dolls are not cute, not interested xDD

    15. I agree with THIS ^

+ It's starting to become hard for me to keep up with all of them now so I don't bother to do so. I'd rather have less of selection and have all of the selection be great, then to have a lot but most of them are not great.

    16. I don't really know what to think about all the new companies, I just hope they have some integrity. Like a few people have already stated, I'd rather more clothing companies, and would actually like a company that specialises in doll patterns.

    17. I think it's great. The more variety, the more chances to find a sculpt you like. On the other hand, I'd be wary of a startup. I'd wait until they had established themselves and had positive reviews before buying from them myself.

    18. Well, more companies ought to mean more unique sculpt exist. But there are too many "similar dolls" and that's really confused me a lot. I feel tired of this situation either.

    19. I do feel overwhelmed with all the new companies and new releases popping up so often that I don't get a break to enjoy the dolls that recently were released... Kinda makes me forget that they really exist, and it just keeps piling up to the point that I stopped trying to know each doll model's name. I do wish more companies would experiment more like how Iplehouse and Soom have. I like the idea of having different shaped bodies and head sculpts that you rarely ever see on fashion dolls.

    20. Its nice to see new companies pop up, but some of them are just dealers who have the same stuff as the proper website but charge either less or more. Depends where you go.

Rose doll is a good one, she sells loads but at half the price because she can make money back from it. But then its a UK seller so they are hard to find.

I like the idea of companies having differnet loads and sculpts but some do look the same, but thats probably because they are new and learning the ropes as it were.
