It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Are you tired of new companies every week?

Feb 21, 2009

    1. Neither do I, really. Personally, while the fantasy dolls are wonderful to look at (sometimes), I wouldn't want to own one. I guess what I was thinking along the lines of "wow" was more particular normal sculpts, or designs in bodies/whatever, that surpass previous ones. Like to me, most Volks all look the same to me, but then I'm not a fan of their primary aesthetic. Others probably feel the same about Dollzone, but that aesthetic appeals to me. It's all going to be subjective to the individual, so what's "wow" to one may not "wow" another. It's up to the companies to keep trying to expand their catalog if they want to capitalize on the market so that they can stand above all these incoming copy-cats.

    2. I'm getting tired of them :/ First off,I'm not heavy into the anthro ones and as for the new doll companies some just don't have my standard of beauty or it looks like another bigger companies doll :/
I am tired...why can't the bigger companies make more things? That'd be my dream~ for frequent updates from them and less new companies appearing weekly.

    3. Wow, harsh much? Just because you don't like the sculpts of the new dolls doesn't mean someone out there doesn't or that they don't have the potential to be turned into something really fantastic. Sure, there's quite a few of the newer sculpts that really don't appeal to me in the slightest, but there's a ton of sculpts from the older companies that don't appeal to me either. Does that make them both "boring looking pieces of crap?" I don't think so. Just targeted to a different audience.

    4. I say, the more the merrier...I was attracted to these lovelies for many reasons. Obviously, they are lovely art, and are sooooooooo beautiful to look at!!! I love it!!! Can't say it enough. Among the numerous other reasons is the fact that there are so many choices/styles. Have fun people!

    5. I love seeing new companies to check out:D

    6. I personally love that there is so much variety. We all have different tastes and companies are working to appeal to so many different types of people. I admit that I am sometimes bored by repetitive releases and molds that don't really stand out to me, but they obviously will appeal to someone. Also, NONE of these dolls are cheap! They are hundreds of dollars! ;)

    7. Thanks for the correct info!!!:) For several years now all i've seen were normal or beauty white dolls from Volks (especially when looking at the FCS choices).
But I will say that it took them a long time to finally feature one as a Limited Edition.

    8. I have to say I used to really look forward to going to the News forum. But it seems more and more companies just look the same. I don't really see anything so special about them that hasn't been done a million times before by bigger, better companies.

I want to see something different. DOD has it's own style. CP sculpts have their own style. SOOM has it's own style. Why can't any of these new companies come out with something more unique looking? Something you can't just mod another doll a little and get the same thing.

    9. I do get tired of seeing new companies pop up. I agree that most of them aren't much to get excited about. I don't think every doll that comes along has to add something innovative to the hobby but I do like to get that feeling that I'm seeing some sculptor's art. Something made with hard work, skill, love and integrity. I can see the love of dolls in a few of the new places but it seems completely missing in others.

Most of the new dolls look so rushed and unrefined it's hard to believe they were created for anything more than a chance at my hard earned dollars. This seems especially true to me when I see some of the obnoxious customer service from some of these new places. It makes me feel sour towards the hobby and that's the part I don't like.

    10. This is exactly where i have a problem with some of them Idrisfynn, you hit the nail on the head

I was trying to say at the start of the thread that I love seeing new artist work, but when companies don't take the time to have decent finished sculpts, well adjusted joints, and decent effective websites, ordering systems, professional photography and good customer service well...that to me is sloppy and looks like they are after my cash.

Thank you for lending the eloquence lacking in my own thoughts on the matter, that it is often not the fact that a new company exists, but the WAY many of them do business that cheapens the hobby and gives it a sour taste

    11. I agree with idrisfynn and effigy.

It tires me when I can’t keep up and the new companies become a bit of a blur. It doesn’t help when new companies have similar names with for example "angel" or "dream" in them and their websites tend to look the same too.
On the other hand, I don’t really make an effort to keep up. I browse the gallery and picture request threads and if I see an unfamiliar mold I like, I then do research. Sometimes I discover it’s from a new company, but it may also be from a company that is several years old and that I somehow missed.

Maybe the market doesn’t need new companies as there is already a wide variety of dolls available, but it does make clear that being a doll company isn’t always enough. Just like others have mentioned I agree that increased competition makes doll companies creative (like with Soom’s monthly dolls and Iplehouse’s different human body shapes) and improve their customer service. It has become easier to lose customers to the increased competition and money can be spend only once.
I’m not too worried about new companies jumping on the bandwagon with average bodies and average head molds. The "good" new companies quickly improve their average merchandise (better jointing, new bodies) with the feedback they get and/or offer superb customer service. (I’m still amazed with how customer friendly JaimeDoll is for example. They offer faster service than other companies I know and still apologise for being slow.)
The "just want to make money fast" companies make their money (or not) and then disappear.

I do see a downside to the fast emergence of many new doll companies. Customer feedback can’t always keep up. You always have the chance of running into a company that is only interested in money and delivers crappy merchandise and crappy service. The bigger the number of companies without available customer feedback the larger the chance becomes you bought from the rotten apple.
It does tire me to hear about another company without much love for the hobby that is only interested in money.

Luckily the "good" new companies become the established companies I (re)discover a few months/years later. ;)

    12. I have a very specific type of style that I like so nope, I don't feel tired of looking at new companies. I love it, in fact.

I'm most comfortable with dolls that are between 65 to 75cms tall, 8 to 9 1/2inches head size and 12 to 14mm eyes. Anything even a millimeter off I simply don't want no matter how amazingly gorgeous the rest of the doll is.

One day a new company will come out with a bjd in the style I elaborated upon above, I just know it, and I can't wait for that day. It's like a treasure hunt every time I go into the News section and see a new company. Hey, maybe this'll be the day and this'll be the company. Woohoo! *crosses fingers*

    13. When manga was first released in the US, I bought every single series. I planned to stick with it- well, a trip to the bookstore now will tell you what kind of millionaire I'd have to be to have EVERY manga in US publication!

(And I'd rather spend that money on dolls, lol.)

It's the same with dolls. Yes, it's harder to keep up with them now, but the options are so vast and exciting- why limit them, when the next company could be the one that makes your dream doll?

    14. I enjoy seeing the new dolls, I have to admit that my favorites tend to be the old standards for the most part. Altho some of the smaller outfits are really producing some brilliant work. The domadoll Okja for instance is probibly one of my most favorite dolls ever. I personally really enjoy seeing all the new dolls, It allows for a broad range of asthetics.

I do wish some of the companys would slow down the production of new dolls. You can't hardly save for one puki before 5 more are released *laugh*. I think because there are so many released there is a little less of the individual customization.

    15. I love seeing new companies, personally. I agree there's a good few 'same-ish' ones cropping up, those are the ones which, as idrisfynn said, just feel as if they're in it for the money, but there's an equal amount that have a fresh and different look. And actually I've been finding a lot of Volks and Luts dolls just look the same as their existing dolls to me, they're beautiful as ever but nothing that grabs my attention for the most part.

There are a LOT of people in this hobby, so it makes sense for there to be a lot of dolls to choose from, right? And as others have said, the new companies that are really any good are the ones that are going to stand the test of time :) I took a two year break from the hobby and when I returned to it six months ago there were several established companies that I had never seen before, like Migidoll and B&G, whose dolls I love, so I'm glad for the new selection, it stops the hobby going stale.

    16. It doesnt bother me but I know where you are comming from. To me alot of the new companies dolls look very similar to stuff that is already out there.

I know people say" more options" which is always great and some of the prices are better however that doesnt mean that quality is going to be up to par with the older companies.

    17. The more the better! :)

    18. I think it's great that more companies are popping up. More variety means more people will be able to find the perfect doll(s) for them, instead of settling for a sculpt that might not exactly fit what they were looking for. As long as the bigger companies stay in the game (I'm in love with Luts and DOD), then I don't see the problem with new companies joining in.

    19. I think its really cool that there are new companies I like seeing the different dolls and different accesories that come with them.

    20. I agree. Your post reminds me of the new doll company Crobidoll. My doll family is 90% Volks but Crobidoll has been getting my attention lately. Their dolls are beautifully sculpted and I would love to buy one someday. But.....I have heard good and bad things about Crobidoll's customer service which some what puts me off the idea of getting one.:?
