Are your dolls a comfort item?

Jul 13, 2019

    1. Absolutely! They put a smile on my face every time I open my doll closet ♡

    2. For me, Murmur is definitely both art and a comfort object. She’s beautiful, and I appreciate all the details and the graceful proportions of her sculpt, but she’s also been with me for a lot of difficult times, and when it’s tough it’s nice to be able to play with her. Often if I’m having a really tough week I’ll change up her outfit - it’s been hard to find stuff that fits her, but I still have a decent little collection. :)

    3. For me, it's less that the dolls themselves are comfort items, and more that the character I'm trying to shell comforts me. I have Ehlers-Danlos and am in constant pain that has taken me out of both work and most social activities. I can't even type due to dislocations or look at the computer due to migraines some days. But writing about, drawing, cosplaying, and searching for the perfect dolls for this character makes me happy and kinda takes me out of it for a little while.

    4. Absolutely comfort items. They have personalities, I talk to them sometimes, and I always end up grabbing one if I'm really sad when they're near.

    5. Definitely a comfort item for me primarily (like many of my other collections), though I also have a great appreciation for them as art.

    6. A comfort item, but also artsy. I do toy around with them, but they usually sit on display. My dolls are an escape from the stresses of real life, changing their clothes, taking pictures, making things for them, creating stories about their individual characters they inspire.

    7. I definitely feel that my dolls bring me a whole lot of comfort! Of course, they're wonderful pieces of art that look beautiful on display, but there's also a feeling of comfort, and whenever I might glance at them in a moment they bring a smile to my face. I really love the warm feeling dolls bring, they make me feel at peace.

    8. Certainly. I've had times when I've been lonely or just feeling low where my dolls brought me great comfort.

    9. I find comfort in sewing, improving, and making good looking things for my dolls. Polishing my skills, or admiring the hard work.

Buuuut waiting I think is far more stress than comfort, goodness.

    10. Honestly yes.
I work a very emotionally draining job and I tend to feel better if I have one of my girls with me. It's just a little beam of sunshine hidden in a bag for me, you know? I'm excited to get some smaller dolls so this is easier.

    11. Definitely a comfort item! Sometimes, if I’ve had a really bad day and I can’t see my partner, I’ll sit Rin on my lap and watch TV with him or read to him. It makes me feel so much better

    12. Absolutely. I see mine as friends, honestly, so I talk to them and have them with me when I'm lounging on my bed/desk/etc. I just got my first one, but I think I'm going to take him out shopping, granted I can find a bag to put him safely in, and buy him some clothes and props. I want him to be able to pick them out with me. n___n I definitely think having him with me will help me feel less lonely, and he'll make my bad days a little better. <3

    13. Yes, my dolls are a comfort to me. I think of them as my children. With them, I am the perfect mother and they are the prefect daughters. They are always smiling (actually none of them have smiling face sculpts) and they are always pleasant.

I can write stories about their adventures. That brings me joy. That joy is comforting.

    14. Absolutely. When really bads days happens I just crafting something for my dolls and it's kinda relaxing.

    15. Definitely, I almost rely on them for comfort at times. Their purpose as an art form comes second. Just sitting with them in my lap, or pressed against my shoulder as though they're sitting in a chair (they're 64-70cm), is enough to soothe any worries or concerns. I'm one of those who despises dental check-ups, so I'll often reach for one of them to hold before and after. If I had a smaller one, I'd take them in my bag and their clandestine presence might just soothe me. I'd then cuddle them in the car afterwards. But, it's just enough having my big sturdy dolls waiting at home. Ready to comfort without judgment.

    16. At this point in time, it is certainly more comforting to spend time looking at my dolls than looking at the stock market or empty streets brought on by the COVID-19.

    17. I think of my dolls as both pieces of art and comfort items. When I'm stressed, just looking at them or brushing their hair or taking them out for even the simplest little photo is nice. They also definitely give me something to do, and for the times right now I am grateful for that.

    18. My dolls have always been a great comfort to me as well as being beautiful art objects. I even have a tiny Fairyland Realpuki who I slip into my purse to accompany me whenever I’m going somewhere that might be stressful (like to the doctor’s office or dentist, or when hubby was recently in the hospital, etc.) And just seeing them displayed around my home on a regular basis gives me a happy, peaceful feeling. Also, since I’m always doing creative things with them (face-ups, sewing, building displays,) they’re a constant source of “art therapy”. All of this is a wonderful stress reliever in stress-filled world. I feel I can totally justify the cost of this hobby because it’s so much cheaper than needing a professional therapist!;)

    19. Definitely, i love them so much.

    20. Oh yes, definitely a comfort item. Years ago I had food poisoning so bad I went to the ER and was admitted so they could give me fluids, and when my then-roommate asked if I wanted her to bring me anything from home I asked that she bring one of my dolls. And this week I've had a death in the family and have to make an emergency trip home, I plan to bring one of my dolls with me, I want him near me.
