It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Are your dolls replaceable?

May 24, 2011

    1. Mine are irreplaceable. Even though I've had them for a short time, I've grown attached to them. I would probably cry if one of them was destroyed :(, after that I just wouldn't be able to replace the doll.

    2. I think most of them I could replace. The two people that have done the two custom faceups that I have are still around on here, so I could probably commission them again to at least come close to what they looked like. My other girls are company faceups. So I'd imagine they don't change too much. One's a RS, one's an AoD and the other is a BBB so not like they're big elaborate detailed faceups anyway. I think though if one of them became damaged I'd have to get rid of it when the new one came to sort of trick myself into thinking the new one is the original. Also if somehow one got lost or for some strange reason got stolen, I'd have to replace them. I'm just like that, it's part of my collector mindset.

    3. +1 on feeling like it would insult the memory of the doll.

I wouldn't bother replacing one of them (not too keen on him, considering selling), and my Elfdoll Wu is completely irreplaceable. However, my Delf El is another story. If he was to end up damaged beyond all repair, I would buy another El and give him the same name, but it would not be another Delf El. Perhaps a minifee or a chic, but not another Delf El. It would be to me as though I was seeing him again as another self, and not as his ghost, if that makes sense. And I think it would be unfair to the second Delf El, but that becomes even more philosophical, so I'll leave it there lol

    4. I can never replace her mainly because I can never get her from the same company again

    5. Some of mine would be hard to replace... They're older Limiteds, or odd-ball mods that would be difficult to replicate... But with enough time, luck and money I could rebuild the majority of my collection if I had to. The original CP Delfs may be discontinued, but they're not exactly hard to come by on the secondary market.

The real question for me is not COULD I replace most of them, then, but *WOULD* I... And the answer to that would probably be "no". I like my collection. I enjoy having them all. But I seriously doubt I would feel any particular urge to rebuild the lot if something happened to them. I'd replace a few favorites and call that Good Enough.

    6. I wouldn't say that it wouldn't bother me to replace them, but I think I might if money wasn't an issue. I think though its something that's hard to know for sure without it happening.

    7. I am probably odd in that I would use the opportunity to "correct" any mistakes I had made with the character's previous shell.

Shard (my AOD Chi), for example... I was not aware that he had fangs when I ordered him, because I did not look at the company photos closely enough. If he were destroyed somehow, I would probably pick a different head for him, maybe even a completely different doll from a different company.

    8. I honestly don't think I would bother replacing most of mine - not because of any attachment to those particular dolls, but just because I think it might be nice to have a smaller collection for a while. That said, the ones I'd most want to replace are either LEs or discontinued sculpts, so in reality I'd probably not be finding them again either (or at least it would be a much more challenging hunt).

    9. My view was pretty much said on the first page - I would replace any one of them because they're just shells for the character. Being able to find them again, however, is a different story! I agree with Brightfires - if I lost the lot of them, I'd probably focus on replacing a few favorites and move on.

    10. That's a bit of a tough one for me. I thought at first it was a cut and paste "of course I could replace them." Because like many others, the characters sort of came before the doll. The more I think about it, however, the more I wonder if I'd bother. My first doll was meant to represent the first character I'd ever made, but the more years go by, the more I've realized she's sort of forged her own personality (so much so that I've been fighting with myself over whether to change her name or not). Replacing her would be much more difficult, because it would boil down to the simple fact of whether the character she became was developed enough, or if I wanted to try a different mold in an attempt to get it right the second time. It might sound a little heartless, but she's both frustrating and fascinating in that regard.

Then there's a matter of my gift doll. When my friend decided to get rid of hers, she was kind enough to send it to me as a present. I've put a lot of work into making her what I first envisioned when I opened her box, and I really don't think I could do it a second time. So, in that regard, she is irreplaceable.

    11. If you'd asked me this a year ago I would have said no they could not be replaced, but I am now wanting to move one of my characters into a new body and sell the old one, so I guess my opinion of the actual resin form of my character has changed. If he was destroyed I think it would be different than if I chose to move him myself, in that situation I think I would retire the character, but then I don't know. The thought makes me sad to think about so it's hard to say.

    12. I'd like to think my dolls are generally replaceable, but I only have one that has been finished with a permanent character for a long time. Focusing on him, I would probably prefer to keep him as the exact doll he is now, but if he were damaged or destroyed in a way where I needed to re-buy him, or if I lost him (God forbid!), I would definitely re-buy the sculpt. At that point in time, I may just be bored of the character and change him up for fun, but I do not think I would have problem reshelling his character onto the exact same sculpt but on a newer doll.

    13. I don't think I could ever 'replace' my doll. If I REALLY loved their sculpt and just had to have the same one then I would buy them again (if possible), but they would have different names and be completely different dolls for me.

    14. I would have a hard time replacing mine since I pick a doll a like and then I just let it create its own personality.. ): But -if- my Dahlia was to be lost or get destroyed in any way; yes I would replace and get the exact same mold and everything. I would probably have a hard time to begin with, but I would get used to the new one in time and hopefully she would become the "same doll" in some way :)

    15. I guess I am one of the few here that could say "Sure, I could/if possible replace my character/doll" if it came down to it.
Mine are AOD's and I intended for them to be a cos-playing family/group.
So of course I'll eventually probably end up with "spare parts" like hands, heads, maybe a body.
If my BJD's were destroyed/lost/stolen etc. I could "start over" but it would be difficult.
In fact my first BJD I bought used and had a crack in her ear.
I recently ordered a replica of her head but she'll still be Melfina.
Eventually Melfina's hands and body will be replaced to go with the new head, but she won't change.

    16. I think I agree with you. I couldn't buy another Ya and have it feel the same as the one I have now. I'm getting used to her quirks, and I'm not sure that another Ya would be exactly the same as mine. And I've gotten more attached to her than I ever thought I would...

    17. Sure, why not?

They're all standard editions and the people that gave them their face-ups still take commissions these days. It'd be a question of when, not if.

Granted, that could change in the future, but for now? Totally replaceable.

    18. I think it would be difficult for me to replace them, but if they really do get into bad accidents that damaged either their faces or bodies, I would go mod them and it would just add to their own "stories". Like "oh he fell and scraped his knee...and he face-planted as well."

    19. Call me sentimental, but I don't think I could just replace a doll that I really bonded with.

    20. My doll is still pretty new, less than a month old. He doesn't have a name and he's not based on a character. However, I carry him around all the time and I just love looking at him. The other day, I accidentally dropped him. I was so scared he had broken and it occurred to me that while I would definitely buy another just like him, I would have been sad to lose him.
