Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Are your dolls replaceable?

May 24, 2011

    1. In a sense yes they are. But emotionally no they are not, well to me anyway i had 3 of my dolls stolen when i moved to my new house 5 months ago and i was destroyed to the point where i almost left the hobby completely. But i was saved by my boyfriend buying me a new doll because saw how sad i was about the other ones. Nothing can replace my Iplehouse Tania, Ryan or my Resinsoul Mei but my SD boy Benji has helped me get over the fact that they were stolen and i have moved on from it.

    2. For me all of my dolls are irreplaceable :( because it may difficult for me to find the same doll which some of them are rare, besides they already become part of me. If they're damaged or destroyed I considered to still keeping them.

    3. my dolls are not replaceable, as hard as i may try to believe they are. even when i was just collecting barbies, i couldn't just replace a doll. it just didn't feel right.

    4. I have actually thought of getting a new DollnDoll King Yuha to "move" Aharon in, because he yellowed a little bit and I miss the snowy white skin tone as well as the company face up I got rid off ages ago, but I don't think it would work. If the doll got damaged, I might be able to do that. but I really don't want to find out. I love him the way he is.

    5. I actually recently lost my first doll's head in a shipping incident when he was being returned from getting his face-up redone. I ended up reshelling the character in a completely different doll. So yeah I could definitely replace my dolls if I had to. I'd be really upset about it but I could still move on from it.

    6. Assuming the only thing I'd be out is the original dolls (like for some reason I got all the money back) I'd have no problem at all replacing my dolls. Most of them I'd get different sculpts for anyways since my aesthetic tastes have changed in the last 8 years. The only one I'd replace with the same sculpt would be my Vlks Kohya because I still love that sculpt!

    7. Many of my dolls are either discontinued, or in one case the company who made the doll no longer exists. They would be exceedingly difficult to replace, especially since most have been modded into OOAK pieces.

    8. Technically speaking all of mine are, but as many of a sculpt as there are out there, no two are exactly the same. So.. *my* particular doll is not replaceable but the sculpt is.

    9. I'm honestly not sure... Physically at least yes, but I don't know - I've gotten a couple of them exactly how I want them and I'm not sure I'd be able to do that again

    10. I dunno. I think if the face got smashed or something I would just buy a totally new head for the body. Just for something new. But eventually I might replace it. I'm not super attached to my resin girl. The rest of my dolls are plastic obitsu :P

    11. Interesting question. Personally if I don't have a strong bond or can't change the character to a different one then yes they are replacible. But I'm not one that want to replace my dolls all the time. I would try to work with what I have...and then see what comes of it. Hope that makes sense.

    12. To me each doll is different, even if they are the same sculpt because they all have different histories. I don't think I'd be able to replace one of my dolls if it was lost. Even if I did buy another doll of the same sculpt, it would probably end up being a different person, because their histories are different.

    13. Darren and Dean are irreplaceable because they're discontinued! I would be super sad if anything happened to either of them. But now that I'm thinking of selling two of my dolls, I think that I could get another DZ Aurora or ID Austin later and have it be just as Arra or Larten as the ones I have now.

    14. not at all. even though there migh be thousands of people with the same sculpt that i own, its not the same as mine.
maybe it's because i spend so much time, money, and bond with my dolls that i could never see myself replacing
anyone of them. if i were to ever sell one of my dolls, even though i most likely won't, i know that no other doll could replace
that one and i wouldn't try to.

    15. I really think it depends on my storyline... Or if a new sculpt of a doll comes out that really captures my characters features and flaws all in one in a doll I might "replace" it. Although I would have a hard time doing so and would do alot of researching and thinking about it. Not only that the dolls I have are already customized to suit their characters. Although over time I could see replacing the dolls due to yellowing etc... Although it's alot of money and time to re-customize a doll... I think it would hard for me to do it anyways because of the emotional attachment I tend to develop over time...

    16. no, I would never be able to replace my girl if something happened to her
even if I got the same mold she would be just another F-01, she wouldn't be my Nadeko

    17. Irreplaceable. I could get the same doll but it just wouldn't have the same memories.

    18. I'm still so new in this hobby (so maybe my opinion will change) but I have collected other things and had them lost or stolen and I have never replaced them. For me it would be the same with my dolls. When I decide to get a doll it's because I have been creatively inspired by it and it pulls something out of me that hasn't yet expressed itself artistically.

But I do actually think about this question a lot. If something happened would I just buy him (them) again? And the answer for me is that I wouldn't. Plus there is the expense... However, like some people have said previously, my characters come from the sculpt rather than me having a character that needs to be shelled. The sculpt will speak to me (or not) and if I can hear their story then I decide to get them. The more interaction I have with him through my many moods and creative inspiration the more unique he (they) becomes and thereby emotionally irreplaceable.

    19. Some yes, some no, partially because of the scarcity of a few discontinued sculpts that (to me) ARE tied to their personae. These are more rare now because they were much less popular and there just weren't all that many out there before they got discontinued. Souldoll Agnetha, AOD tan Min, Ariadoll Spring Fairy Narvy to name a few. I don't think we <have> any actual Limiteds. Oddly, my favorite, U-noa Lusis, could be any Lusis and still be distinctively herself to me, I'd get a new one and paint and style her. Ditto for our Volks Kun. One of my newest is an unmodded UNOSS Aika, and this is one that I can't see being anyone but her own dolly self as an intact sculpt/original faceup, which was difficult to find in the first place, she's 13 years old! A modded UNOSS would be totally different to me. She's always been a doll icon to me as-is though, not one I'd ever want to mod or change, so while the customized ones are amazing, they just wouldn't resonate the same. (Pun intended ;) )

    20. Definitely not. My doll is special to me.
