Are your dolls replaceable?

May 24, 2011

    1. I'd replace my Crobidoll Lance A if something ever happened to him. I've even considered getting a new one and selling the old head for a low price once it starts to yellow enough to bother me. With my other dolls, there are some I'd try to replace if I could find a replacement. I don't feel like the OP at all - it wouldn't feel like a cheap copy. To me, a newer version of a doll I already have would be preferable to my older dolls once they start to show their age. I'd definitely be sad/angry if something happened to one of my dolls, but I don't think I feel as strongly about them as other collectors.

    2. I'm not attached enough to my MDD that I'd bother replacing her if something happened that destroyed her.

My DZ Kimi and PukiPuki Pipi, on the other hand? I would be devastated. No way I could manage to replace them and still call them the same things, even ignoring that my DZ's tan resin is discontinued and my puki's faceplate is modded, making replacing them at all a kind of impossible task.

I've already had to face the issue if replacing my puki's body (she came to me without a proper headback) and she just wasn't the same with the new body, despite the couple little things wrong with her old one. I get ridiculously attached to inanimate objects, though!

    3. As much as the sculpts themselves are replaceable, my boys are not. Even were I to replace the broken sculpt with another just like it, the new sculpt would not have the same feeling attached to it. The sentimental part of my mind would always register the new doll as being 'different' than his predecessor.

My boys don't have elaborate characters and back stories, all they have are the feelings I attach to them as I work with them and customize them to my taste. I would not even bother trying to replicate them with a 'replacement', honestly.

    4. No my dolls are not replaceable. Never...I would be very upset if something happened to them..in any capacity there would be no way to replace them...they are sentimental each one holding a special place in my heart. I think the sculpt would be possible for some the reasons behind the doll would be missing. I mean for me at least they often take the place of having physical real world friendships so they are not replaceable.

    5. Oh No! I could never replace any of my babies! Even if i got the same sculpt the memories wouldn't be the same. The face never quite the same. Its like knowing identical twins. They look the same but they don't act the same. Their personality's may be similar but their their own persons.

The dolls i have.... i went through a lot to get them. 2 of my dolls caused a lot of heartache to get and 1, my very first BJD, was a present form a friend for Christmas. They especially would be terrible to loose.

So No. None of my dolls are replaceable.

    6. I'm not entirely sure if I could replace them--especially my very first. I have put a lot of work and love into him, and if something should happen to him, it wouldn't be quite the same. Sure, I can get a new AOD Chi (coincidence, purely, that the OP and I have the same AOD sculpt we are attached to XD) and use the wig and eyes for my current guy, but...it wouldn't be quite the same.

I think it would be the same way for my Storm and my Honey Delf Pie. I would replace them if I had to, but I feel like I would have to do the bonding all over again. I am very attached to my dolls, and they are all very special to me. They are more than just the shells they came to me as.

    7. You could replace with the same doll but it'll never be the same, they are irreplaceable!
Id to replace a doll (not BJD) sometime ago, same doll with the same face but somehow she felt different every time I hold her, and she's a lot lighter then my old lost one.
My heart will be broken if anything should happen to my BJDs, some have special face up that I couldn't get again and/or company is no longer exist.

    8. I don't think my dolls are realistically replaceable. Many have mods, or are now discontinued and rare. It would be difficult and heartbreaking to try to replace them ;^;

    9. Since the characters for my dolls are also in my head, so yes I could replace them. On the otherhand I have most of my characters are shelled in limited molds and some are really sticking to their molds so they would really be difficult to replace if something would happen to them.

    10. Well, yes. It's more about the characters than the actual dolls. This doesn't mean I 'upgrade' my dolls, but if something happens to them and I'm able, I will get the same doll again. I've had this happen when doll heads get lost in the mail. Two of my dolls heads were lost. I wasn't just going to say 'Oh, well.' and give up on them. I ordered new heads and worked on getting them back in one piece.

    11. Right now, my girl is replaceable, but I haven't done a lot of work on her yet, and she doesn't have a fully fleshed out character. I think, later on, if I've put a lot of work into a doll then I probably wouldn't replace them. Too much work. :sweat If I ever get into having really fleshed out characters my opinion might change, but for right now I'm mostly interested in customization.

    12. No. My most beloved dolls have EXTREME paint jobs and they are definitely one-of-a-kind.

    13. I don't think I could do it o: If something happened to any of my boys buying the same model just wouldn't be the same...wouldn't be them, you know? Like one of my dolls has a birthmark that was just a goof when he was made, it's what sets him apart from all the others of his mold o: Even if I tried buying the same mold and all I just don't think it would be able to carry the originals personality the same....just what I think XD

    14. Of course, my dolls are replaceable in the material sense--but emotionally they are just like any of my other treasures & therefore, irreplaceable. If I lost any of them for whatever reason, a "replacement" would not be the same, but that's just me. ; )

    15. The reality is yes as a sculpt unless it really really rare you can replace most dolls. But like other the emotion ties and all you can't. A doll becomes who it is from the face up to the tiny bumps and dings it has over the years. I could replace every doll I own but it still would no tbe the same.

    16. The major irreplaceable thing about my dolls is the characters they represent. Some of mine might be harder to actually replace than others (some are limited for instance) & having to experience the destruction or loss of one of my dolls would pretty much devastate me, but I definitely would replace them.
I've lost 1/2 a NOVEL of mine because of a computer virus - now THAT was incredibly devastating to me. I had to rewrite & I know the new version was different. But I did it....

    17. Laurent definitely isn't replaceable. Sure I could buy the exact sculpt and have the same face-up, and try talking myself into believing that, but I just know it wouldn't work. It's probably an emotional factor within myself that anything inherent to his sculpt or the way he looks. I'm just too attached.

    18. Updating this. Luts doesn't even make MOST of my guys anymore, so I couldn't replace them anyway. I'd cry if certain ones were destroyed. Some I could do without, wouldn't even bother, some I'd try. They wouldn't be the same though.

    19. I could not replace most of my crew if anything happened to them for they are not made anymore. I do not reshell, just get stuck on the old face so it's not a thing for me. Just have to really take care of my beauties or else be broken hearted.

    20. Speaking from a purely physical point of view, of course they are. If the unthinkable were to happen and I had to replace my entire collection, I could technically do it... but it would be a long, *difficult* and probably tearful road. I would have to track down a fair number of limiteds, but I've been in the hobby long enough to know that nothing is impossible.
My dolls are shells for personal original characters, so while I know I would never be able to perfectly duplicate the ones I have now, they will always be here in some form.
