Ball-Jointed Doll Abbreviations, Terms, and Meanings Guide

Sep 3, 2005

    1. Double jointing on a doll means that there is a mechanism, usually a separate elbow or knee piece, that allows more flexibility for the limb. This includes, but it not limited to, a doll being able to touch its face or kneel all the way down. :)

    2. what "SS" mean?? I usually see this in sigs that refers the Dreaming Shiwoo...

    3. It's a relatively CP/Luts specific term, coming from "Sleepy Special" - it refers to an alternate head than the default that is made to look like it's dreaming/eyes almost shut.

    4. 1/3
      60cm doll

      1/4
      44cm doll

      SD10 is slightly smaller than the common SD13 (60cm) and SD17 is a 70cm I believe. This is all I know through my brief experience of BJD's~

    5. SD = 1/3 = ~60-80cm
      MS = 1/4 = ~45cm

      SD10 / SD13 / SD17 refer to the "age" look of the doll, so an SD10 would be a 10-yo-looking SD-sized doll.

      Note that in some cases, SD10 refers to the body (underdeveloped) but not the face. For example, Raven is a SD13 body with a SD17 face.

      Hope this helps.

    6. Luts abbreviations:
      SDF - Senior Delf
      DF - Delf
      KDF - Kid Delf
      HDF - Honey Delf
      ZDF - Zuzu Delf

      Dream of Doll abbreviations:
      DOI - Dream of Idol

    7. I've noticed that in the Box Opening/Arrival gallery, some people add extra pictures and title them "Omake". What does that mean, exactly?

      It isn't listed in the first post.
      Sorry for being a nub. ^^;

    8. Omake usually refers to "other" or "non-related" images. I am not sure what it means per se, but that is what the jist is. ^^ Like extra cute images taken during a photostory that get posted at the end.

    9. I've been seeing an acronym around here that's not listed and I can't figure out exactly what it means (though I have some good guesses)

      Is ABJD another name for a ball jointed doll or does it mean something completely different from a BJD. (Asian? American? Angel? Aesthetic? Amazing?)

    10. Asian Ball Jointed Doll. ^__^ With the rise of American companies, I am not surprised at the confusion. :thumbup

    11. Could someone please explain what 'breakaway' means?

    12. Breakaway is a mold from the company Eluts, it's very popular but limited

    13. Gonna sound like a total idiot here, but I keep seeing the term 'suwarikko' around here, general paired with mentioning of dolly legs. Help, what's it mean? Is it a style of legs or leg position while sitting or...?

    14. It's a design feature. It is a special type of legs that have cuts in them so they can do special poses. The leg position is also called 'sitting cute', when both legs are to the side, knees facing inwards. This site has pictures of Volks suwarikko legs, and the suwarikko leg sit.

    15. what does AA stand for??

    16. Abio Angel, the dolls sold at Divinity Doll.

    17. What is a DD2 body?

    18. Dolfie Dream type 2, I think....^^;;

    19. I've searched the thread, and unless I'm blind... sorry for the newbie question but, what exactly is a Mini Fée? Are they like MSD's? Or something else entirely?

      Thanks! :)

    20. Not sure if anyone already made this statement...
      I thought BB stood for a babe/baby, that is a tiny bjd. I think some company uses this term, just cannot remember.
