Ball-Jointed Doll Abbreviations, Terms, and Meanings Guide

Sep 3, 2005

    1. aaaaah, i see...I think, i saw USD somewhere...forgot...i thought it was USdollar but???...hha

    2. USD can either be US Dollar or (as previously mentioned) the Korean version of YoSD

OOAK is One Of A Kind ^^ Which explains all the enthusiasm on those threads. =]

    3. What company uses the abbreviation RS?

    4. RS is Resinsoul, a sister company of Bobobie.

    5. Is there an abbreviation for Pukifees? PKF maybe?

    6. What does SFN mean?

    7. Everybody who has a doll says "wonky" if a doll has crooked eyes.

I use it around "non-doll" people and they dont understand but here everybody says it

    8. Wonky eye is used on alot of doll forums....some claim the wonky eye is done deliberate by the artist...I'm not convinced...

Wow...this is a great tool...I can see I'm gonna have to keep this handy...
      Saving it for sure....
      Thanks
      Carol

    9. i was wondering why is it that LTF refers to LittleFee and not just... i don't know, something else? my friend uses it very often and i don't quite get it until i notice we were both referring to the LittleFee line!

    10. L for Little, T for litTle and F for Fee ;3

      Like, PKF, PuKiFee
      And MNF for MiNiFee

    11. What does Omake mean? Is it specific to doll forums? Cause I've never heard it before I came here.

    12. It means extra or bonus in Japanese ;)

When someone adds an omake to a thread, it's just an extra photo they wanted to share. Something that didn't suit the other photos for example, or just something funny, but worth sharing.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omake

    13. Just wanted to add that i think the term comes from the custom Asian dealers have of adding a little gift into your order as a thank-you for being their customer. Like the postcard and sticker you get in your box when you buy from Dollmore--these are omake. So I'm guessing it just acquired the meaning of "a little something extra" =)

    14. BL artists?

    15. I assume that "BL" in this case stands for 'boy's love,' so an artist who draws boy's love. Not a BJD term. I could be wrong, though...do you have a context for this?

    16. Yay for the Guide and its usefulness! :) It's answered most of my term-related questions, but i still have a couple left!

What does "CB" stand for? (I assumed it stood for Crobidoll, but in case I'm wrong...? )

And what exactly do terms like 1/3 and 1/4 mean?
I know they're in reference to height (i saw it noted on a earlier post that 1/3 is about 60cm, also called SD) but how, for example, did they get 1/3 to mean 60cm? Do dollmakers just assume that collectors will know that 1/3 means 60cm?
      (I hope that made sense @_@ )

    17. 1/3, 1/4, 1/6 etc refer to the scale of the doll. We ourselves are full scale, or 1/1 (although some of us are oversized :...().

The majority of dollhouse items are 1/12 scale, where one inch equals one foot, and a dollhouse for a dollhouse would be 1/144 scale (one twelfth of one twelfth). Many other hobbies involving miniatures and/or scale replicas use this type of scale, too, so if you see an item on ebay, for instance, that's described as 1/3 scale, it might be a great prop for a 1/3 doll!

    18. Thank you for the very helpful list!

    19. OMG this is so helpfull to me! I have home work asignment around the dolls and our language...or how we talk...this is helpful!
