1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Being Labeled a "Flake" in the MP

Mar 6, 2012

    1. I have always protected myself from flakey buyers as much as I can. I will only do short holds (a few days max) and only for good reasons. In general, I don't. It's just first person that pays will get the item. Also, I've yet to have a person agree to a layaway, but I would always tell them upfront that the payments are non-refundable.

For buying, I've never flaked. If I bother to PM someone about an item, I'm pretty interested in it and can throw down 100% of the money most of the time. The only exception is if I have a question about something. I'll make it clear that it's just an inquiry and I'm not sure about it yet. I'll also reply to their answer if I want to buy it or not.

Dolls are a luxury. It would be pretty hard for me to run into an emergency where I had to flake, because the money I spend on dolls is 100% disposable income. I pay my bills on time and have plenty of money in savings to pay for things if an emergency came up. As someone who also sells, I sometimes wish the flakey buyers would manage their money a bit better. I understand if you got fired or laid off or something, but I see so many people be flakey on all kinds of marketplaces (not just here) because they bought something else instead.

Honestly, I don't like them either. Either you want to sell that item or you don't. You don't have to make a selling thread as a "feeler". You can state that you accept offers without saying an amount at all, or just throw out an amount + OBO. I don't buy from "feeler" people anymore because I've run into "feeler" sellers who agree to sell it for a certain amount and then go flakey by changing their mind. Like I said, you decide to sell it or not BEFORE you put the item up for sale. If you are unsure, don't sell it. It's that simple.

    2. This kind of happened to me earlier this week. I was going to buy a dress from someone on the MP and had it all paid when an emergency came up. I felt terrible since it was so unexpected and I thought I would be able to afford both, and I wasn't able to. The seller was very kind, though, but I felt awful. Then I saw this thread, and I thought, "I didn't mean it! I don't want to be a flake!" I still feel awful about it, too, but there was nothing I could do. I just politely told her that an emergency had come up (my dog is very sick right now as am I), and I was extremely sorry. But, she hasn't left me feedback yet, and if she chooses to leave me with flakey feedback, then so be it. I'll just have to work at being better at holding my money and such.
