1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. I think it'd be really cool to own a 1/2 scale "art" doll from a brand/sculptor like Koitsukihime or Etsuko Miura, but.... darn, those things are expensive!! Upwards of 10 k, I think.

    2. I dont think so......1/2 is far from a dolfine in my opinion and I wont have any space to store such a huge doll

    3. I would possibly buy one if it were absolutely amazing. Like a huge Chrom, or something I would fall in love with just as instantly (not in the romantic sense ofcourse, that would be creepy :) ). The only drawbacks to something that size for me would be the lack of room to put him and he would most likely be too expensive for me. But maybe later, after I have more experience with BJD's...

    4. I'd happily buy a 1/2 doll providing that I could afford it, and that I could find a female sculpt that I liked.

    5. personally... I think it depends on what it would look like...
usually to something that big, I'd say no, because of the weight of carrying it around @ _@

    6. I would looooove to have a 1/2 scale abjd if one existed with a sculpt that I liked and it didn't cost as much as a used Vespa.
I used to own an Annette Hempstead doll (Karile) which was gigantic...but I eventually sold her because her joints didn't have the kind of articulation I crave as a person that photographs dolls.

    7. Money would be one thing, but it would be a pain to just carry him/her around... they would get way too heavy...

    8. Wow...the replies regarding not wanting a large doll due to weight surprise me.

Yeah, I carry my dolls around to photograph them but I don't think the weight of 1/2 scale bjd would be a "turn off" detail for me to be honest.

I don't carry my bjd's all over town with me to show them off though...I just don't feel the need. And really...It's not like it would weigh as much as a human child, lol:). Now if it were mounting up on around 30-40 pounds I'd feel differently.

For me, sculpt, articulation and price are the deciding factors when I contemplate the large BJD. But I photograph dolls so I'm biased for sure. As a doll photographer I am always pining for a large doll that looks more human than human, with great articulation and face that makes you gasp! Could be why I'm pining for one of those life size "Real Dolls" (my husband finds this hilarious since the Real Dolls commonly appeal to really lonely men with too much money on their hands and not enough social skills to land a real live woman, lmao)...but such "dolls" cost about as much as a used car and do weigh in at over 80 pounds (talk about HEAVY)...not to mention the guy that sculpts them hasn't made a face sculpt that doesn't look a little off kilter to me. Warning for the curious: The RealDoll Site is not for people under 18.

Bottom line, if anyone finds a seller offering large BDJ's let me know:D. I do recall seeing an ebay auction years ago for a really large doll I assumed was a BJD of the anime character Chii: If anyone has any clues who produced this lovely huge thing feel free to send me a convo since my curiosity over this Huge BJD has been eating at me for a few years:

I've had this pic in a file on my computer for a couple years and I always meant to email the seller about the doll but never got around to it. But good lord...isn't it just hugemongusly gorgeous!!! of course, she probably does weigh a ton since she's 5ft tall;)

    9. It would be the horror and creepiness of My Size Barbie. Remember those evil things?!

    10. Melorahviolet, I believe that is the doll from this thread, either that actual doll or one of the same model. Not sure where Papermoon dolls can be purchased, but hope that helps ^^ since the former owner is a DoA member you might be able to PM her and she may point you where to buy one. riversoblood's name is on that ebay pic and she is also a member, so you could also PM her instead since it was her auction.

    11. Sure I would. 90 cm is not that big compared to my 5'10". AoD already makes such a body but I don't like their heads so haven't gotten one. Also the issue, even with 72 or 78 cm is clothing for us non-sewers. But if clothing could be gotten,... darn right!

    12. A 1/2 size doll is the size of a little kid - it would probably be very difficult to carry around a doll that large, and the looks you'd probably get from carrying what people may seem like a child-mannequin... rather not.

I mean, I'm 4' 10" tall, and having a doll more than half my size would look like I actually have a kid. Probably need a lot of kid stuff to maintain it, too - maybe even a car seat. I know I'd probably freak out a cop if they ever pulled me over and saw a very large doll in my car beside me.

    13. I wouldn't get one, but I'd sure like to see one!! ;p

    14. Thanks so much for the info:)...I didn't even think to check if she was a DOA member since the pic is from an auction that happened a few years back. This is super helpful. Considering I haven't been able to ever find info on papermoon dolls, my guess is they may not be in biz anymore..or I just haven't looked hard enough, lol. But I may still PM "riversoblood" to see if she has any info. Thanks again;)

    15. No. I didn't buy EID Iplehouse doll (only 70 cm) because these guys are 3+ kg, so not the huge size frightens me but the huge weight.

    16. I am not a photographer, but I feel the same about a large sculpt. I have life sized toddler dolls (they were size 2T), but they have very little articulation since they are not jointed.

    17. I wouldn't be able to hold him/her!
I think they'd be great for photography and even clothes design, but I've got weak bones, especially my wrists the the height as well as the weight would make them a little difficult!

If they were truly gorgeous sculpts with bodies that posed well I'd definitely consider getting one- but I love my MSDs/SDs, I don't really want anything bigger.

    18. Papermoon dolls can be purchased here:
      Here

Chii is also on eBay again item #220628010638. I can't imagine there are very many papermoon Chii dolls in the USA.

As cool as it would be to own a full or half-scale doll. I can't imagine finding good looking clothes for it would be an easy task :(. At least not for those sewing-declined *raises hand*

    19. Are you kidding? For a full-scale? You could shop for it anywhere! They've gotta be closer to mannequin proportions than most people are, right?

PS OH GOD they have Rei. Her hair is so awesome. I would wear it myself, if I could get it on without gouging my ears off.

    20. 1/2 size? probably not, as it's a bit of an odd size. 1/1 size? Absolutely!! I did spend some time drooling over the 1/1 scale Saber... too bad I'm not into DD, and she's not exactly my favorite character. :)
