@Quiet and Insane Donn told me he uses acrylic paints on the soft vinyl wigs. He rubs on rubbing alcohol or acetone to make the vinyl tacky so the acrylic paints will stick. I think the glitter or iridescent powders would stick very well. Just a clear acrylic sealer to keep it all on. I hope this helps. I’m really looking forward to seeing your guy as he progresses.
Reviving this discussion thread a little. I think these dolls are amazing I’m hoping to catch one some day. I’d join patronage (spelling on that) but I can’t afford to commit money monthly. I’d really like Steve, Nails or vince. Hopefully one day. Guess I’ll be on the search and stalking till then
Hi @lookame! These guys are awesome aren't they? Be patient, they do pop up from time to time, even if you can't join Donn Patreon, you can at least follow his Facebook for all updates regarding any of his dolls.
Donn isn't the best at updating his page, better to join ours, Fans of Bishonen House Creations. We update often. Hugs, Marie
I’m part of both bishonen house Facebook pages. I saw an unfinished spade and he’s so handsome even unfinished.
He does occasionally put the boys for sale on his website. Just keep an eye out! He's a one man shop, making the dolls, doing the faceups, and making all the props. So he's pretty busy, but he does put out some terrific dolls!
I saw your journal on here about fixing him up. When I first saw him I wasn’t a fan (probably his whole western cowboy aesthetic) but blank he’s so handsome. All of Donn’s boys are beautiful. Even seeing his vampire dolls and older I'm
Yes we have members on the Facebook page that share their big guys by Donn. It's awesome to see his start and what he's doing now.
Oh it was the cowboy aesthetic that caught my attention in the first place! Not that I need another cowboy but hey...one of my stories is literally a fantasy western so...it was bound to happen. Donn's older big guys are gorgeous! I really would love to see one in person sometime, heck even owning one would be amazing!
I wasn’t sure if I should post yet but it’ll be ok I think. I emailed Donn last week asking about Steve and Vince dolls. He said he has a Steve available that he used as a display doll at cons as well as for photo shoots. I said heck yeah I’m interested! It’s the weekend right now so I hope to pay sometime in the coming week. I’m debating what to call him. It’s funny because my husbands name is Vince and Steve looks like a cartoony, skinny version of my husband. I’m also so excited because a member of this board is helping me get a Vince kit with all his faceplates.
Congratulations! That sounds great! And sounds like you'll have some household fun with Steve - aka mini-Vince! lol
I’m excited to get a Steve doll and Donn has been incredibly nice. He’s been crazy busy finishing up the Nails dolls but he said he could get him shipped out next week. I don’t mind a doll with some bumps and bruises as I tend to buy second hand anyway. I almost bought a Steve off eBay which to the faceplates had no ears and painting them with skull faceup a but this is much better. I need to find square glasses for him. Those of you who travel with your bishonen house dolls how do you do it? We’re going to New York and Disney this year and I want to bring one or two of my dolls along but I worry about 1) yellowing due to sun 2) where I’ll leave them while on rides (Disney) and of carrying them would be more of a hassle than fun. I have some 1/12 sizes dolls which I could carry in a glasses case (they came to Tennessee with me but stayed at the cabin). We go with family on our vacations and they wouldn’t understand a doll coming along
@lookame as someone who has traveled with dolls now for 10 years I can tell you it makes the trip a lot more interesting. You see things in a different way, different angles and you'd be surprised how open some people are to the dolls. Always asking questions and such. I always tell people I have a following on Flickr for my photos, or working on a book. Lol not totally true, but they are strangers so don't really care what they think. I have picked dolls based on trip. If hubby and I are going by car to say a rented cabin for a few days then I take a bigger doll. If going to Disney World I take smaller or lighter dolls. I have taken Eddie, my Steve to Disney World and he was easier than my SD10 girl who weighed twice if not three times more. I took face plates that would work at each park I planned to go to, and only took extra shirts, and his Luke Skywalker outfit. You can see the best photos on my Flickr account. One word of advice. Don't let the Stormtroppers handle them. They are awful. Jawas on the other hand were very sweet. Other than them I only asked Milan to hold my girl another trip there. But Eddie is a lot more fun for trips where you have to walk a lot. Backpack with secure buckles and in New York I would say comfortable to wear in front of you, as sidewalks can feel like your a bumper car. I personally would be prepared also to have backpack examined for security. Disney World and Disneyland have security at every entrance. So be ready for people to manhandle your doll. Personally I prefer the vacations where it's photos will be more interesting then a typical. If you're willing to do the work it'll be worth it. Oh and get some nice flannel baby blankets. These are great for burrito wrapping your dolls in backpack. But for security have him enrolled to speed up process. Also understand if you hold them for photos, the background maybe fuzzy, so be sure you can tell what it is, like Cinderella Castle. Of course if you get closer to something you have to decide what your camera is going to focus on. So practice is best before trip.
@animemom thanks for your insight. I bought a DollZone carry bag which will be nice to carry dolls to meet ups but for going on planes I think I’d rather have them in some sort of zippered pillow/sleeping bag thing like my Volks doll came in. Perhaps I’ll skip bringing them to New York (I don’t think we’re planning to do much and it’ll be my brother wedding...although how cute would Steve be dressed in a nice suit at a wedding!?) every Nov we go and cute down a tree for Christmas so maybe I’ll opt to bring him along to that and see how easy/difficult it is. I’m very excited I have so many ideas!
It's always best to do things outside with the dolls slowly to get used to holding doll while taking photos. As a woman now 60 years old, my knees aren't the best. So taking photos while holding doll is best for me. If I do have to get low it's quick and if nothing else camera is lower and I just take a lot to get the best shots.
Paid for Steve! Donn restrung him and touched up his blushing then sent me some pics. He’s so pretty! I’m super excited.
