So far I have sanded and sanded! I got both face plates, both hands, both feet, and both arms done! The seams are not really bad, so it is easy sanding. The pieces have a nice texture to them which I really like. Steve is completely different than any of the bjds I own! He is definitely the most unique and treasured of my collection! Now I'm stressing about doing his face up...that's not for a while, but...i prefer sanding! I'm a crafter, not a painter!
Donn did a face-painting tut on Patreon recently. Made me feel better about eventually tackling my extra Steve faceplates. ^_^ He made it look simple and easy.
@landrew AnimeMom on flickr has some shoes that fit their Steve, Eddie. Here's their photo of Eddie with some information I hope its ok if I share it. <: @kurogane and @aernath Can confirm, painting Steve faceplates is really easy and fun! You don't necessarily have to add eyelashes if you don't want to. The sculpted eye brows also make it easier too! I'd say Steve is perfect for learning to paint faces. There's so much character in the faceplates already you just add a little color to make them pop. It only takes one or two layers of pastels to get some subtle color. (My face ups are a lot more dramatic than Donn's because I like a lot of contrast.) His tutorial on Patreon is super awesome, so I recommend watching it. =D I also recommend beading/fishing boxes to store faceplates in! They're just the right size to fit 16 faceplates and some accessories. I currently have three of these, one for Steve, one for Vince and Mira, and one for extra expressions. Congrats on your Steve! I don't think I ever sanded my Steve's seams, other than on his hands! Keep up the good work, can't wait to see him when you finish! =D
@P-Aei Wow, those face plates are awesome! The derpy one gave me a good laugh. Thanks for the tackle box tip too. I have a few questions about the teeth parts. How do you attach them? And how did you paint them? It looks like you used black inside? Steve needs clothes, so I need a bit of help. Can Steve wear slim msd pants, particularly jeans? Finding clothes for my dolls is a struggle. I guess fashion is not one of my skills, lol.
Oooh, I can confirm that those boxes are terrific for the faceplates! The wigs, not so much, but the faceplates fit great! And wow, great job on the faceups, @P-Aei ! Steve can fit slim msd shirts... but I have given up on finding pants that fit. I'm going to (eventually - my poor Steve hates me) make him some pants that fit. I got one of the first fullsets, so he has pants, but they don't fit when he wears his anatomically correct hip piece instead of the pantsu piece. lol
@aernath Thank you! Yeah the wigs don't fit in the boxes sadly <xD Normal MSD pants should fit Steve, though the waist might be wide, I have dollheart(?) pants on my Vince that work well! I know of someone on etsy who makes jeans that fit, I think they're RawKiss? (I'll look into it again, I got the pair second hand, but I think minifee size works.) @kurogane As for the teeth parts,.. Painting them was sorta hard. I used red water color. I pretty much would slap color between the teeth, then wipe the excess that got on the fronts off on a towel before it dried. Installing them was sort of a pain too, my hot glue doesn't seem to want to work, I ended up using a thin roll of green poster tack on the bottom/tops. (You can see it on some of those faceplates in the picture.)
@P-Aei Thank you for all your help! Yeah, it looked like painting the mouth pieces is going to be tricky. I'll just take it slow and careful. Since this Sunday and Monday are going to be our last nice weather, I will have to do the face ups now. I'm tellling myself it will be fun! Or I will have to wait until June, lol. I'm seriously thinking of buying some of those jean looking tights and making Steve some pants. Ever since I saw them, I've had a burning desire to do this, and now I have a legitimate reason!
Phew, I got the face plates, feet, and hands blushed today! Today was it, as the winter weather starts tomorrow. I think the hands and feet turned out well. The face plates are ok for now, lol. Next is stringing, then I will have a naked Steve. I suppose I should take pictures...
OK, here is da picture! I tried, I really did! SD Hampton has shared 1 photo with you! Flickr has changed since I posted a picture! I cant find the bbc code. Oh well.
@Quiet and Insane Thank you! @aernath Thank you, and I'm following you on Flickr now too. Gosh, you have some amazing guys! Since it's a dark and stormy day, I figured I'd string Steve, watch some Goosebumps, and make the best of the weather. Two hours later, a punctured finger, and worn out, I got his legs strung..the arms are too loose so I will do them again. Now I remembered why I'm scared of elastic! My yosd's seem so tame, lol. Steve, I'm coming for you!
Hahahaha! Yes! I remember restringing my Steve in an attempt to make him tighter. I haven't bothered since. It's been...over a year? He really needs it though. But I do recall it being a huge hassle. Those tiny channels! I glue sueded him too. As loose as his hips always are (no matter how much I try!), he must love dancing. lol
Steve is together! I sewed some temporary pants for him until my clothing order comes in. I just got a pair of msd pants and figure I can alter them if they are too baggy. I also got a pair of sneakers to try out. The inside dimensions seem compatible, but I've learned that measurements aren't always accurate with Bjd stuff, lol. It's going to take about a month for the order to be made. At least Steve will be dressed, eventually. Oh, I ordered from Alice's Collections as there is a sale going on and free EMS shipping if you order 100 dollars in clothing/accessories. I have a question regarding eyes. I would like to know what eyes you use for your guys? I would like to get some with a smaller iris size so more white shows. Thanks!
@kurogane I've got some 10mm in my Fince faceplate. I'm not sure what size they come with but I think 9mm might work too. I usually make my own clay eyes and paint them the size I want.
