1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD feature on British TV~

Sep 7, 2006

    1. Ahahah, while I found it amusing, I'm definitely not showing it to my friends or family. Towards the end, you really do get a 'cult' feeling and the mention of the word just emphasized it. The birthing ceremony felt a bit over the top, but that's just my personal opinion.

    2. The video was ok. Yeah, the "spiritual" emphasis was ok, but he veered off in search of the mainstream audience by waving catchphrases like cult, birth rate, etc. Guess he thought he needed a bigger finish than the birthing ceremony. (Don't know how well that would go over here. I can see us, razors poised to slice open the arrival "curtains".)

Also thought that ceremony makes it seem like the doll is received by the owner completely planned out beforehand. Then why do we have 85 wigs and 30 sets of eyes to try on each doll as soon as we get it? (Also noticed that most of the dolls in that film were female dolls. And that guy talking about "playing" with his dolls sure just had all his girls decked out like any array of Barbies or French be'be' (can't get the accent mark right) dolls. They might as well not have been poseable.)

Once on Youtube, I searched a little further - there are some really cool stop-motion filmlets done with BJDs. "The Arrival of Carnage" was pretty good! And there's heavy cuteness of tinies as well -

    3. A lot of omukae ceremonies are done with several year old dolls who have specific looks already, by owners who were not fortunate enough to order them in person at a Volks store. Also, I rarely stray from my doll's original wig colors when I get them, and have never changed eyes, not everyone does this hobby the same way :sweat

    4. I think what she meant was that every doll is pretty much personalized for each owner. Like, it's not like every BJD looks the same and they are just slapped together at a factory... Maybe I'm wrong though >.>

    5. Oh yeas I am the same way! I love to change clothes and wigs, but with Nono I can't change her eyes because they are such a part of who she is!

I liked the video, but they kinda did go overboard at the end.

    6. Doll cult.

    7. the only thing that bothers me, is the fact that because i have three Luts dolls, and planning my fourth, i'd PROBABLY not be welcomed there. I love volks dolls, but based on Volks' "Do not come in our store with dolls not from our store" ideals, i'm going to safely assume the same can be said about their hotel. So, even tho i love volks dolls, and one day i might get one, i'd probably not be very welcomed there with my kids LOL

    8. after seeing that, i realize how truly UN-obsessed i really am :sweat
unfortunately, i dont get british tv?

    9. i see your point, but i will say that i would show it to people who don't quite yet understand BJD's, because it shows them that there is such a huge following for these art pieces. I think the "Cult" comment was meant as a joke. Not seriously.

    10. I think Jonathon Ross is great.
Personally I couldn't think of a better presenter to do a show with Super Dollfie in. His knowledge of, and interest in, Japan is so immense, plus he's known for being a bit wacky, so none of it looks contrived.

The doll ceremonies are all very...intense. I suppose, box-opening can be the same. I know I'm a little ritualistic about it.

    11. Ah, you're very welcome!! :D I don't understand much either, but from what I get, they have some interesting stuff about how Dollfies are perceived in Japan and how Dollfies are related to their owners. ;) Though my Japanese isn't good, I can try to translate these after my exam is over (on Monday) if you're interested!! :fangirl:

    12. From what I've heard, that's just a myth.

    13. It's not "just a myth", nor is it a written-in-stone law, it's just something people should honor if they're aware of it.

    14. Well...if you ever get a Volks doll, go there with just the volks doll. That's what I plan--er, wish I could-- do one day :p

About the video, um...."cult"....I didn't exactly find that funny, but that's just me ^^; Still, very interesting to see...

    15. Aliceku, I'm pretty sure that a Four Sisters(Nana... whatever the others names are.) mold.

I don't know, I found that funny, and it DOES look, sound, and act like a cult. Just minus any religious aspects. Not that all BJD hobbyists are like that, but the giving life ceremony thing especially gives off that feeling, IMO.

    16. Yes it is a SD10 four sisters, Volks currently sells Megu, Nana, and Sara (the fourth sister, Kira, was never brought back with the switch to new resin) as standards on all of their websites :daisy

    17. o___o;; Worship?

Definitely not showing this to anyone interested in the hobby, the end there made it sound like some sort of creepish cult. x__x; I...wow...that ceremony honestly creeped me out, I am sorry. x3

Did anyone else think it was hilarious when that girl was like, "Super dollfie, kawaii! n__n <3" (Excuse me if I spelled anything wrong. TT)
And the host was like, "Right...kawaii... nnnngg. >_>"
