1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD makers threatened by China-based counterfeiter / trademarks

Apr 26, 2018

    1. I also have seen people with all recast dolls but owns a very expensive dslr and photographs the recast dolls with it. They also spend a lot of money on clothes wigs accessories for their recasts. Some pictures are quite good but I do not respect such doll owners. It just doesn’t make any sense to me to not support the original doll makers.

Anyway Unoaalchemy has made a statement about this on their Instagram: Unoalchemy on Instagram: “The case of the Chinese recaster Luo and his trademarking scheme has been brought to our attention recently and we would like to address…”

    2. I have been wondering what other counterfeit enterprises Luo was operating. Fake food has got to be one of the most reprehensible industries ever.

    3. The more I read, the more confused I get. Is this particular "Luo" (Ligui Luo) the same Luo from the counterfeiter company S&L/SL/StephenLuo? Or is this a different counterfeiter Luo? :?

Also, the correspondent, Yuen Lam, is in Manchester, Great Britain? Wish I was in GB cause I'd flood them with spam or something. Do we know if this is an actual person or just an alias of Luo?

    4. Iplehouse did in the USA but not Canada ><... it began about 2 years ago.

    5. Edit: just read it's the same. Sorry.

Different I think. There are multiple Luo's it seems. LuoBJD also exists, but he isn't that "amazing" according to pro-recasters. But this all is about the Oueneifs/ChinaBJD owner. Not sure if S&L is part of Oueneifs.

    6. Thank you for the link Izam.
in the pro recast, there are those that just want a pretty thing right now and cheap, or want it as well as some expensive item from some brand. Well fake BJD are easiest to get than said item ?
There are those that will say "i'm an invalid with 3 children to feed, i can't afford a legit one".
"the company doesn't make it the color i want" or "it's unfair, it was a limited one".
There are plenty of other "reasons" they would give to justify themselves. -_-

There are also those who think that if you're an artist then your doing what you like so what, you're living your passion, it's cool, why should you get money from it ?
Those who ignore/don't know/don't care that a BJD is not industrially done like Barbie or Monster High, that they are hand made and require time to make (and i'm only speaking about the molding, not the creation process).
That the artist who create it has a family to feed, bills to pay, taxes to pay for his business and so on. And for that, if he wants to live from his art, the product is supposed to sell at best 3 times his cost (1 to repay its producing cost, 1 for the charge, 1 to buy materials for the next and maybe have a small leftover). In some industries, it can go up to x 12 the production price simply because the brand knows there'll be people to by it nonetheless.
That the companies are small with very people (heard they were 5 in Fairyland) who are human being so with illness sometimes, that weather affects casting, that they have charges to pay, bills to pay, paying their people, so on and so on.

In fact, they don't care where the BJD comes from, all the process and expense behind it. They just want a nice doll at cheap price right now.

    7. Yes, it is the same person.

    8. Some people are just selfish and entitled and don't give a crap who they hurt, there's no hope for that kind of person. On the other hand it seems like more and more newbies are being taken in by said selfish jerks who lie to them about BJDs or the newbie sees a random $600 legitimate doll somewhere and assumes all dolls are $600. So that person who bought a recast Minifee COULD have bought a legitimate Resinsoul, Doll Leaves, Mirodoll, Akagidoll, etc...of the same size for the same price but either A) Are the kind of entitled jerk who wants what they want and doesn't care who they steal from or B) A newbie that doesn't know less expensive legitimate dolls exist and/or doesn't know what a recast is vs a legitimate doll.

There's no hope for the jerks but I wish I knew how to reach the ignorant newbies with information before they make this mistake.

    9. Can someone send me in a message the link to the video everyone is talking about as I’d like to see it! I think talking about this is important & should be discussed to help others avoid this situation, I wish I had back when I started. Thank you.

    10. Yeah... But unfortunately a lot of newbies are taken in by all the Minifee Chloe's and Celine's and "just need" that doll. No you do not "need" that doll. -.-

It sucks because RS and all those others are pretty too.

And tbh, I don't have a lot of money either, but by putting aside a few bucks a month I can now get one of my grails (Lillycat Ellana) and it wasn't even as expensive as I expected. You can get amazing legit dolls from the secondhand market.

And the excuse that bugs me most is the "I don't know if BJD's are my thing so I am buying a recast to try." Like.... WHAT.

    11. I am proud to support original artists and their companies. When I first read about what has been brewing, my stomach turned into one big knot. It is so unfair and I hope that this will be enough for people on the wrong side to open their eyes and take a stand with those who have been loyal to the makers of the dolls we have all grown to love. My heart goes out to the ones who have to fight these legal battles. They don’t deserve to go down and their supporters don’t deserve to go down with them.

    12. I don't know if pro-recast people don't know how recasts affect the hobby and even artists who have yet to be recast themselves but I think they don't CARE who gets hurt. As long as they save a buck on their fancy luxury item, the person who crafted it can go starve in a ditch for all they care. I've done some sculpting and have thought about sculpting a whole doll and getting him cast but the extreme flood of recasters and recast buyers makes me think that if I do get a doll cast, it will only be a few copies for myself and not selling or giving away any. The thought of my creation that I spent months or years pouring blood, sweat, and tears into being stolen and treated like that by entitled jerks who couldn't care less about me or the doll I spent so long crafting makes me physically ill. I would rather have it never see the light of day than have them get their hands on it.

    13. No, there isn't a list. As far as we (=the community) know, there isn't a single company that has gone out of business purely because of recasts. There are a few who have changed their business model (like FL starting with CoAs), but I can't remember one that really stopped producing dolls.

Edit: People on other forums are suspecting that its not, in fact, Steven/Luo/Ouneifs whos doing the trademark thing, but LuoBJD, another (relatively new) recaster, who tries to lay the blame of the whole thing on Luo. Someone also had asked Luo about the trademarks and he answered in several paragraphs; in short, he said it would be stupid to do something like that, and they never applied for the trademarks.

I wouldn't really trust something a recaster says, but it makes the whole situation a bit more weird and shady.

    14. I completely agree, and even if someone has their heart set on a specific doll, they can do layaway or do a hybrid with a cheaper body if they want to save money so badly and don't want to go with a less expensive company. I hate all the excuses and none of them are justified (some of them don't even make any sense). I have heard more and more stories of newbies literally being lied to by more "experienced" recast supporters who tell them that recasts are just "generic" or "unbranded" dolls like store brand cereal and that other dolls (legit dolls) are expensive because you're paying for a "designer name." Or they will tell the newbie that the recasts are "overstock" from the real company and that's why they're such a "good deal." In other cases I've heard newbies say that they expressed interest in legitimate but inexpensive dolls like from Resinsoul and similar and the recast supporters told them "don't buy that, buy a recast Soom/Minifee/whatever" ugh. I just wish I could get to these people before the thieving harpies could.

    15. But there are artists that were so badly affected by recast/knowing their work was recasted they got ill and had to go to the hospital.

    16. Makes sense. LuoBJD is a really bad guy who just tends to scam people and send bad products. And really give the other Luo a bad name.

But honestly I have no idea what to believe. Oueneifs could be lying.

Edit: not saying Oueneifs is good though. They both suck.

    17. A lot of BJD companies have gone out of business or disappeared and the truth is we just don't know why and may never know.

As far as the the recaster doing the trademark stealing and "framing" some other recaster-I feel ZERO sympathy for either of them. You willingly steal someone's hard work then I have no sympathy for your thieving, lazy ass. I hope both of them rot.

    18. @idrisfynn That's what I was thinking, but the talk of the other recaster, LuoBJD, being the culprit instead is what's confusing.

    19. oh man, this whole identity thing is very confusing. do we have any members in china who could confirm or help explain and add sources?

    20. I will only address this.... I went to your home took your 2k electronic w/e and left you 20$ and a note as a reciept... you did not authorize me. Then i went and sold it for 1k. I am a criminal... AND so is the person who bought my stollen goods.

This is a crime... this is what a recaster does. and the buyers who buy from them... I do not get how ppl cannot grasp they have commit a criminal act even when it's laid out for them... But i suspect they believe it should not be a crime so they behave as if it is not. it's a defective way of thinking that frankly scares the crap out of me.
