1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD makers threatened by China-based counterfeiter / trademarks

Apr 26, 2018

    1. So we're back at companies only?
Then the full list of in-business companies is here: BJD Measurement list [ver. 25.4.18]

Some infos need updates; the idea with people working in blocks sounds good, so noone gets in the way of one another. I can give access to the list for anyone who wants :)

We might need another place to talk about that project, we're straying a bit off from the original topic, haha... I've made a chatroom, there we can bundle up the information => BJD Tumblr page - Chatzy

@mangameow - would be great if you could take over the tumblr aspect of it!

    2. Thats also an idea...

Guys, let's go to the chat so it wont be too off topic here...

    3. You might also want to consider what words/key words to use on the site/blog. The kind of words a newbie looking to buy bjd dolls would google, such as "bjd shop", "bjd manufacturers", "bjd doll where to buy", "bjd company", "buy bjd", "cheap bjd".
The key word "bjd shop" is very important, I personally used it when I was just getting in to the hobby and I was googling for places to buy dolls. As a result a recast site comes up right on top.

//edit: Agh, I write slow. But yes, it's good to have another place for this discussion. :>

    4. Luo already has thousands of sculpts that he can recast forever. Yes, he might put companies out of business, but he can still make recasts of the ones he has. He won’t put himself out of business, he just wont get new sculpts to steal... and he can still keep selling and selling and selling the ones he’s stolen. If fairyland closes down he will be the ONLY way to get a fairyland doll, aside from secondhand. THAT is what he wants. If all legit companies shut down tomorrow then the only way to get bjds would be either second hand or through Luo. Sure there wouldnt be new sculpts... but he obviously doesnt care. This is the real danger.

    5. "If fairyland closes down he will be the ONLY way to get a fairyland doll" .. in China. Him getting the trademark means that he's the only one allowed in China to sell under that name; If FL sell a doll to someone in the US, Europe or anywhere else (beside China) they can still legally do so.

Doesn't make it better, but thought to add that.

    6. Actually he is working on US and European trademarks too

    7. Canada and australia too

    8. For those of you looking to reinvent the wheel with this newbie buying guide, we applaud your efforts, but we also encourage anyone with the time to add missing company data to the DoA wiki. You can add photos, pricing info and anything else you feel is relevant to the entries, it can be updated by any member, and we already pay for hosting. :)

If you want to use social media to drive search engine traffic to legit sites, start including the web address for the company every time you post a photo of your doll anywhere. It takes an enormous amount of effort to manipulate SEO, so it takes dedication from a lot of users.

If you want to drive traffic to reliable information for new buyers, include a link to the relevant entry in the DoA Wiki or the discussion thread or the buying guides here in General Discussion. You don't have to be a member here to benefit from the years of knowledge that has been accumulated.

The staff is still struggling to clean up from the Photobucket image hosting disaster, which gutted a lot of reference material. Keeping DoA current, friendly and full of beautiful pictures is a great way to support BJD artists and anyone can do it.

    9. Let's make Legit bjd's more popular than any "knock off" counterfeit that ever existed! We can "as a community" make Legit dolls so popular and appealing that newbies would never want a cheap imitation! (BTW.. I didn't see popovy sisters on that trademark list;)) I have been active mostly on Instagram lately due to some serious family issues but I will start to tag every photo of my dolls with the doll websites so people will go directly to the Legit website.

    10. I absolutely agree.. in the long term is very challenging keep updated and live this kind of things... I've started the #probjdartists movement on 2013 and on 2014 I opened a dedicated blog on tumblr, and the year after the group on FB... the firts years all was so supportive and active and I've many collaborator and we do informational topic and also interview... now is all in a sort of (ir)reversible coma and all the contributors vanished in thin air (^__^)""
I love doa and I'm amazed that is still so active and a a fixed reference point after so many years..

Anyways I hope all the ideas and enthusiasm will andure this time, and I'm happy to help

    11. the good thing about a page with all the information gathered is that it rarely needs updates. We're currently making it in a way that it shows general information, and nothing too specific :)

    12. Of course, just keep in mind that platform stability is a major factor in long term accessibility. We've all seen people migrate from LiveJournal to Tumblr, etc. Paywalls suddenly go up or social sites fail, so relying on a third party to control your data isn't always sustainable. Starting from scratch is also an SEO handicap.

    13. We#re keeping that in mind @St. James :) Only way around that would be to buy webspace, but thats a bit much for an informative page.

    14. this is true, and i would like to see a lot more work put into the DoA wiki!
i've spent a bit of time adding to it, but i would like to see some standards put in place as i find myself occasionally unsure as to how to format information.

but a site specifically targeting newbies is useful (especially ones who may be too shy to put themselves out there to ask questions, or are young enough that web forums are kind of a foreign idea to them), and the information can always be stored on an individual computer. i anticipate myself being an active tumblr user until the site goes down, at which point we will probably have made a plan for hosting the information elsewhere. the interactivity offered by tumblr is also a really good feature, as it allows a Q&A archive

    15. Just a little thing i just thought, while a easy reading page/site/whatever for newbie is nice, it MUST be more easily findable for them on internet that pro recast, aliexpress and such. And that goes by reference according search engine (Google works one way mostly with popular search in general or on specific subject, Lilo another and there has so many other search engine out there all with their specificites). Plus not all countries use same search engine AND referencing works differently too in Asia than in US or Europe too i think.
That being said (and i hope i'm clear enough on what i mean ^^'), when i began interesting myself to BJD, google brought me to Matériel Céleste, wikipedia and i don't remember what (not DoA, i heard of it on Matériel Céleste and unless specifically searching for it, never saw it on search's result...). Now with either Lilo or Google, it's recast shop, aliexpress and so on... Matériel Céleste isn't even in the 10 first website ! I used Google for years before switching to Lilo and i find it speaking that a search engine that knows my interest, sites i often go, offers recast first and not legit or older and still active website or forum !
      Anyway luck and courage !

    16. Maybe if this works and the companies like it, we (or even someone else) could get support to make a bought webspace. For now we are going with what we have.

I wish I could help with the doa wiki but its kind intimidating *_*

I will do my best so it will show in my country search (and each person of the team can work for their's), since we arent english speakers the fact that we could just navigate through the images is great but since the guide is all in english it is probably harder to index to the search results.

    17. THIS! the fact that there isn't a way to do it is so mind bending it's a wonder ANY business can function unless it's mega huge and had money before it opened (note how stupid that sounds but it's almost the dead truth)

    18. on topic: i wanted to ask again, has anyone contacted alice's collections?

additionally, i got an update from bluefairy and it has been added to the contact/response list.

off topic: also, i think a lot of people might not be aware that the DoA wiki even exists, or that they can update it. maybe we should have a drive of some type once a month to like. power through the backlog and update as much as we can and hand out like. sticker for our profiles or something? haha

    19. I'm usually the kind of person who likes to get along with everyone and doesn't usually wish others ill but - I hope that Luo guy gets sued out of his home, livelihood and last shirt. I hope he's ruined forever. I hope he gets what he deserves.

I know, I know. But you can always hope, right?

    20. I’m catching up on this whole thing with Lou and recasts and it just has me sad, disappointed, and...frustrated.

Was really happy to come into this thread and see the community coming together and the pooling of ideas.

I’m crossing fingers and hoping that the doll companies will find the law(s) on their side.

I’ll have to take a look at the doa wiki and see if there is anything I can contribute.
