1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD makers threatened by China-based counterfeiter / trademarks

Apr 26, 2018

    1. Isnt because dolk is not a company but a japanese dealer and the trademarks are not included in japan?

    2. Can't believe this is happening. :...(Hope the doll companies will be okay. :eusa_pray I would really like to get more dolls.

    3. To be honest, the recast dolls are ugly ... I totally can't understand why somebody would buy these kind of thing.

    4. Isn't Dolk's owner based in China to begin with? That could be why many Korean companies that work with Dolk are using Dolk to help them out in this situation.

    5. have there been any more updates from companies? or even contact attempts?

    6. Aww, shoot. I'm more of an Iron Man kind of gal.

And like I said, you can't fully protect yourself against someone who isn't willing to fight by the rules. Not even if you'd register in every country in the world, including Antartica (if that were a country). People like Luo will find some other loophole to screw you over. And that is because the international law isn't airtight. It's glued together with bandaids. And since recasters don't abide by the law anyway (they've been illegally creating counterfeits for years), you're losing loads of money either way fighting a losing battle against criminals.

    8. Yeah, that's what it says at the bottom of their website. I know when I asked them about it they said they weren't affected, but I'm sure they are trying to help out the affected companies they deal with. After all, I was thinking it'll be hard for the dealers as well, if the companies they are working with suddenly have trouble with their products being sold to various countries due to the trademark issues. Wouldn't that mean the dealers wouldn't be able to sell those companies' products either without facing the same problems?

    9. Dollzone on youtube and has a nice video showing the faces behind their work. I think more companies need to follow this lead and show that these people have families. Even if the artist doesn't have their own kids, they support others with jobs in their field like the casting service and legit dealers. There are so many more faces I would love to see behind the scenes. It makes this hobby feel more personal and not "just some company! "

    10. For a disaster this big we clearly need the whole of the Avengers. The events in Infinity War can wait. Or who knows maybe Luo ends up being one of those in which case problem solved. I kid. :P

In all seriousness I've been following this since MadamMauMau brought it to my attention. My original thoughts were this was some attempt to possible blackmail the company, but St. Jame's thoughts from a little earlier makes more sense, as a way for Luo to legitimize his or her business. I hope for the best for all companies involved

    12. thank you~! :thumbup
sorry we got off topic a bit there...!

anyway, if no one else has contacted withdoll and april story yet, i'll do it.
someone should contact cocoriang, i'm pretty worried about them, as they are just two people, correct?
i heard there was a husband and wife duo and that someone fell sick when they heard their doll was recast, and for some reason i always assumed it was them? forgive me if i'm wrong..!

also, i have yet to hear back from dollsbe and bunny bunny, so if anyone wants to double check with them in korean, i think that would be alright, since it's been more than a week.

    13. I do not know if this is stupid, but would it be possible or even a good idea to sent some kind of collective, informative mail to the DoA members who have this purple sign "artist" and the ones with "dealer"? There may be some who are not located in China and who are not counterfeited (yet), but maybe it is also important for them to know what is going on?

    14. i feel so sad:(

please do not hate china and chinese.

    15. That's a real problem.
There's plenty people with recast doll who don't care for artists, they will purchase recasts anyway because they don't see the difference and will never care to see it. Not because they are bad people, but because they think of bjd as a toy, a teddy bear - who cares, who manufactured a teddy if it is cute and cheap, huh?

I personally do not think bjd is expensive. Much more expensive is visiting Maldives every year for example. There's plenty of clothes costing more than a mere doll does. But we have to admit the real rize of recasting began with the prices and limited editions that were enormously popular on the market.

I'm very sorry for Chinese doll fans. That is wrong not to have even a right to choose a legit doll, since the market is officialy occupied with recasters.

I was thinking about franchise for the doll makers and dealers to represent legit product, if they fail to retrieve their trade marks. It also might help them to hold on, while the case is still in process.
Do not have any better thoughts for now, but I'm sure there is a way to keep the situation stable.

    16. I know ebay doesn't remove listings based on them being a recast but isn't there a rule that you have to use your own pictures for a listing?

When I search bjd on eBay there are a lot of recast dolls and they nearly all use the orginal company pictures (talking about the new recasts not the second hand ones). Would it be possible to get them removed based on that?

Would it be up to the doll company the image was stolen from to report them?

It's understandable that newbies would mistake this listings for the real deal with the professional photos. I know this wouldn't get recasts off ebay but if the recaster had to use their own pictures it may make them look less desirable and newbies may not fall for them thinking they are legit.

    17. Of course not :). China is a big place with a billion people living there, and only 1 or 2 of them are recasters. This isn't the Chinese fault; criminals exist everywhere.

    18. Sorry, I didn't see it before XD
I typed exactly like them, mistakes included and all:

"Dear, sorry for your waiting! Lots of work to do today.
Really sorry to know that rumor spread everywhere now and then! And really sorry to know that news brother you a lot!!!
Thank you so much for willing to communicate with us about that friendly! Really nice of you!

It is the rumor which were spreading on. We never did and will never fight against the BJD companies mentioned on that post.
we're glad to see dolls from these companied sell in China or in other countries around world. we will never do anything to prevent that. It is unnecessary for us to do that. It is just like use throw an egg against a rock, will bring nothing to us only fight against us.
Anyone who even smart a little bit will know it will not get nothing good from that situation to have everyone agaisnt us.
And these above can be proved by the fact what will be going on in the future. we are talking about the truth, really!!
It is aim agaisnt us with that rumour.
It is the companies in my country who sell the dolls from these BJD companies make that news, what they hope is to get several sides agaisnt us. Obviously, someone has believe that wrong news and agaisnt us already.
Although we already in this terrible situation we wouldn't like it that to happen. still keep with that wish to let the sun out of clouds one day with the mist dissipated.
Hope you can know deeply about that and that misunderstanding will end soon. Your kindly understanding will be appreciated sincerely!!!
Hope our explanation will make that confuse you less! Thank you so much for willing to know more about that.
Wish you still will have happiness time as always! (rainbow and sun emoticons)"
The second one is not text but a map that shows S/L and the other luo are within a 53min (44,5 km) distance from each other - that is, if the place is right, the print doesnt has a high resolution but it says something like "Jiazhucun" and "Baifeng Ave". It also mentions (its probably a print from the recast forum I didnt got in) the other luo being previously called wawa on taobao, which was S/L business partner, in the theory they would have fighted and become rivals or something,

Thank you for your good work!
Can someone actually list all the projects that were mentioned here to fight recasts and support artists? I'm lost.
Besides the newbie tumblr there is the thanks doc/book, the find recast toxicity one (can this be called a project?), the paypal/ebay/aliexpress/amazon complaints, the affordable dolls promotion (in social media and updating 300$ under doa wiki), disney font & google search complaints, the wikipedia page update...
@ATYL mentioned US reporting counterfeits https://www.stopfakes.gov/article?id=Report-Fake-Goods

Don't worry, we do not blame chinese overall, the chinese bjd community is the suffering the most right now, you have our support, please reach when you need!

    19. Crocus of Granado and Huang Shan of RingDoll both share quite a bit through their Facebook and Instagram pages, it's really wonderful being able to see the people behind the dolls we love so much.

    20. You have a good point. I'm not sure what Ebay's rules are, but I know art theft includes stealing photography as well. It would mean all the companies would have to make sure they have a watermark of some sort on every single picture, and maybe one of their artists' names and not the company name. Since if he trademarks the names he could claim the images are still his if the company name's on the pics. And I can't imagine he'd start trademarking every artist's name just to get around a watermark. (Though who knows at this point lol)
Not sure if all that would help in the long run, but the companies could then at least report/make claims against a recaster using their own photography. I guess a recaster could just get someone to take their own pictures, but some people in the hobby are dang good at spotting a recast doll...someone would be able to know it right away just by looking. xD
