1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD Orbyrarium Discussion Thread

    1. I'm not sure where people are getting the sense that I think the staff did something "wrong." Or where any of us thought that. I haven't seen anything but a gentle critique of the paper wig, which, by the way, wasn't originally my critique. What I did say was that particular edition of Liebchen is an odd choice--it doesn't seem very "representative" of the hobby, and that's easy to see by doing a quick cruise through the gallery scanning for Liebchens or for dolls in Victorian underwear (although you'll find more Victorian underwear than Liebchens.) Personally, I really like the edition, the wig, the outfit, and the eyes, and hey, why release something that's exactly like what everyone else already has? So I get it.

I *completely* agree with your statements. I think the staff did an excellent job of having something for everyone, and I fully enjoyed the book! Representing a fandom this diverse in a single text would be unrealistic at best. But I do think the book did a great job of SUGGESTING the diversity of the fandom and of giving a great introduction to the hobby. On the other hand, saying that because you are IN the hobby means that you are representative of it...well, no, that's not right. I'm in the hobby and I'm not at all representative of it. That's a dangerous line of thinking. There was a very clear sense of aesthetic community between the creators of this book--a lovely one, this isn't a critique--but it isn't the only aesthetic sense in this fandom, nor is it necessarily even the most popular. But that's neither here nor there. The book was a success, and I hope to see more in the future.

However, since the issue of making constructive critiques has been brought up, I'll make mine. I do wish a little more attention had been paid to making the writing as beautiful and artistic as the photographs, especially in the sections that weren't tutorials. :) Some editing for grace of prose and for thematic unity in the individual pieces would have been excellent. Still, I realize that I'm probably not "representative" in my wish--I'm probably the only person who really cares about truly careful prose. ;) It comes with the job, unfortunately.

    2. Then just sell it to me! Please!

    3. If I had one, I totally would - I would swear that wig was made just for you. XD

    4. I'm pretty sure they haven't changed the name and the webiste for KawaiNino hasent been working for the better part of 4 months. I've tried accesing it a bunch of times.

Anyways this book looks cool, I have no real need of it and no money to sepnd on is...So I'm not buying. Still what a great thing to have as a part of the BJD world!

    5. Phweee my book just arrived about two hours ago... I just finished browsing through it for the first time. It's so nifty! And there is at least one sd13 boy pattern! *dances* Not that I hadn't already come up with something similar in MSD size.... ah well just glad to see one was included and by such a talented designer! =^_^= I'm very very pleased with this book.

    6. still waiting for mine, and I'm over in New Jersey. I'll have to ask my mom if we were charged yet, and what our order number is...at least I'm not the only one still waiting >_<
I'm so excited for it to arrive!

    7. I didnt get mine yet I hope it comes soon I really wanna see whats in it

    8. Got mine today! (And in perfect condition. No rips, no dirt, not bent at all. Hurrah!) <3

Joce is on lucky page 13. XD

    9. I got my book today! I pre-ordered way back when and it arrived sometime in the past week. It was sent to my old street address, forwarded to my POBox and then folded, bent and crammed inside the tiny box, and then sat there until I picked it up. The thin envelope was ripped in several places, but there doesn't seem to be too much real damage other than being permanently bent down the middle. I guess I'll try sleeping on it or something to try and squash it flat. Otherwise, it looks awesome!

    10. Mine arrived today and I'm so VERY pleased with it!:) It wasn't bent or ripped but as perfect as a book can be.

I'll spend hours studying those photos - they're beautiful and one of the main reasons I love looking through BJD books & mags. I can't wait to get the time to sit down and read every word. Some of the patterns look interesting too...I'm inspired to pull out the sewing machine and figure out how it works! ;)

    11. I got my book. I think it's an incredibly well done book. It's even nicer than I expected it to be! It's definitely worth the money, for those who haven't bought it yet. The tutorials are REALLY nicely done. ... lots of pictures, and good writing. Maybe in the next book they can include a tutorial about opening sleeping eyes? *hopes*.

I only wish the book didn't offer things for sale in it. I mean, it's a BOOK. I still plan to have this book 10 years from now, long after the doll clothes in it are sold out. Oh well. At least the sale pages are only just literally just a few pages of the book. Even when the doll clothes are sold out, I suppose the pictures will still be nice to look at. The book is still great.

    12. I got my book yesterday, too. It's in awesome condition - no bends or scratches. I'm stunned at how much info is in this book! I've read some of the articles already, I can't wait to read the rest!

(And having a book with articles and photos done by some of my friends is just AWESOME! I'm so proud of everyone that contributed to the book!)

    13. man, i want this book so bad! i might have to give in! is it easier to buy it from ebay or hautedoll.com? just wondering....
