1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD Orbyrarium Discussion Thread

Apr 25, 2006

    1. I'm beginning to worry that i havn't got mine yet.
      I didn't order it too late D:
      I hope it arrives soon.

    2. I ordered the book on 9th June and received mine (in good condition) yesterday :)

I've not read all pages yet, but this book is very wonderful!!! :aheartbea

    3. I think it's important that they know they'd lose customers based on the lack of their selection in shipping...

and I completely agree with Derilaan.

Nevermind that saying they're losing money based on the printing price is just insane. They're a business, they made sure the price of the book made them a profit. They aren't running a charity program here, they're trying to run a business. They set out to make a profit. And if they didn't based on having to send out more books because of a poor choice in shipping, then they'll never do it again. :)

I think I have every right to voice a complaint, without beating a dead horse... because they're never going to know if we don't tell them.

Now however, this is beating a dead horse, I'm done... but thinking that HauteDoll wasn't out to make a profit is just silly.

    4. Still, it would be better IMO if the complaints were e-mailed directly to HD rather than posted in this thread. I come to this thread to read critiques of the book, and now that several people have posted about the shipping damage and that HD has rectified the situation, personally I'd prefer further complaints to be off the forum.

    5. I have sent them a complaint, they've not felt the need to respond, if they'd bothered to respond at all, I wouldn't have posted here, I would have discussed it with them.
.. and it was a very civilized complaint, just inquiring about further shipping options and explaining the nature of how careless our postal worker is with our mail.

    6. Finally received my book! It didn't have cardboard in it, it was in a regular manilla envelope & was damaged :( The envelope was ripped in three places. One of the pages is torn (have no idea how that happened, it was no where near the rips!!).

But I love the book. Very nice, Is the cover supposed to separate into two pieces? I thought it was a little odd since some of the writing was covered up by the second layer of the book, but I guess that is esthetics.

It is well worth the price, just wish it was sent in a tyvek or something that couldn't have been ripped!

    7. I seem sort of whiny in my post, so just in case I wasn't clear - I do love the book, the information & photos are well worth the price. I would buy it again (and hopefully any successors?) in a heartbeat.

    8. Hi all!
I received mine in great shape... shrinkwrapped and in a cardboard mailer... but I got it on ebay!

I love all the Liebchen info and patterns, the article on Hypermaniac, the tutorials and all. Very fun and helpful stuff!

I did not like all the errors, though, who did the editing?! Rasendos were not made in Korea... the first entry in the A to Z "at a glance" section shows a Unoa Lusis for Angelregion (page 12)!

I didn't care for the "stories" either, the Earnan one, or the School of Vambane. I would have rather had those pages telling the tale of Cerberus Project or Notdoll or for more profiles, patterns or tutorials.

I'd love to see a tutorial on how to open eyes properly and mod human ears into elf ears.

I'd like to see more about elves, and some historical or fantasy/cosplay articles...

Overall I'm glad I bought the book, I'd do so again and would buy another in the future!

I love the artwork and photography, very beautiful!

Thanks to Aimee, and Karen et al for all the hard work!

    9. I finally got my copy today ^_^
      I was a little annoyed that it only came in a standard envelope with no card or bubblewrap to protect it but lukily mine hasnt been damaged so.. no harm done with me ^_^;;

I think its a really good book! Im not sure what i was expecting but this wasnt it LOL! Its way thicker than i imagined and has stacks of info... and i LOVE the tutorial about making your own walls/backdrops for photos! (So cool!! *runs off to buy supplies*)

I hope they make another one... it would be great to have more! Its worth buying just for the beautiful pics to be honest LOL!

    11. I :aheartbea the book! Thank you everyone who worked on it. Its so nice to have one in english. I hope more are in the works!

    12. my card was charged on the 11th of July ...still no sign of the book...guess I better write to them :( wonder if it's because I'm in Canada

    13. Still waiting for my book >< I think I'll write to them soon ....

    14. kchan: Me too.. :/ Kasita told me that we can ask for a replacement book if the book has yet to be delivered after 4 weeks since its sendout date.

    15. yoake: Okay >_< Thanks for the info ^__^

    16. Ordered BJD O as soon as the announcement for it appeared on DoA ... can't say when it arrived, as I was away on extended holiday and the outer envelope was in tatters (someone with some serious claws works in a mailroom along my delivery path!). But the book itself was fine ... no cardboard protectors, but the clear plastic dust jacket did the job. I did have a moment, when I first realised what was within those tatters, where my heart flip-flopped!

Heavy book, but yeah, $5 media rate is a bit eyebrow-raising.

That said, it's beautiful in execution!! The images are stunning and the material is both enjoyable and informative. Hugely so! I'd definitely acquire a Volume II. ;)

Having written and published 3 books, I know how bloody hard it is to make sure every last comma is in proper place ... even after multiple iterations of paying proofers! So the comments about editorial glitches are things I tend to take lightly. This is simply an impressive book. Full stop.

Being a serious ShinyDOLL fangirl, however, I was disappointed not to see ShinyDOLL listed in the A to Z Company List. I can understand newer lines like OrientDoll probably missed press deadlines, but ShinyDOLL has been around. And I truly believe Doi-Shin, as an artisan/craftsman, embodies the essence of the BJD aesthetic in a way few others do (yeah, you could say I'm totally and blatantly biased ;)).

So maybe Volume II can remedy the oversight?

To those who worked so hard (yes, I can imagine just how hard) on bring this book to us, my sincere and heart-felt thanks!!!

      Lisa

    17. Lisa, thanks so much for the indepth comments!! I really appreciate it (and to others too.)

    18. A lot of the photos in the A to Z where not credited property to the photographers.

I'm one of them. ~ we're all hopeing for a correction / for us to be given the proper credit. Dream of Doll did NOT take that photo. I did.

    19. Perhaps the thread regarding nonpayment for an article should be moved from this forum as it is an entirely different issue altogether? Just a suggestion.

Also want to say AGAIN that I am thoroughly enjoying my book. It is a masterpiece. Yes, there are errors and perhaps they're more glaring to us BJD fanatics since we fancy ourselves experts in the area and are perusing the tome with more of an eagle's eye. So passionate!

This said, I am a freelance writer and editor and gladly offer my services free of charge for the next book, if there is one.

      Best,
      Laura

    20. I love the book too, but it IS riddled with the kinds of errors that just shouldn't happen. However, as a longtime subscriber to Barbie Bazaar, and sometime reader of HD, I can tell you it's just par for the course. I think of it as a fan publication, and just gloss over it.
