1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD Orbyrarium Discussion Thread

Apr 25, 2006

    1. i've loved the book and found it pretty useful for all the company information and also for the tips on face ups it gives. i also loved the pictures of different dolls they choose, some of the face ups shown are wonderful.
i found interesting reading about japan yahoo auction artists from whom i've bought outfits in the past too.
as said there's some mistakes but overall is a good book worth buying to me.

    2. It is a helpful good book for beginners mostly- there ARE errors and the photogrpahers and corrections are somewhere on the haute doll website- ...

ok i only own it cause my ammon n julian are in it repersenting the DoD company

    3. I was woundering wear I could get the book The BJD Orbyrarium, at a store not online? I checked the borders web site and store and found nothing:(
      Please help:sweat Thank you! :D

    4. i dont think you'll be able to find it stocked locally at any shops around you... but www.denverdoll.com has them and really fast, reasonable shipping!

    5. I believe this book is still available thought Haute Doll Magazine :) Have you tried looking on their website?

      www.hautedoll.com

My Kaede-Sugar is pictured all throughout the book, I hope you enjoy it!

*EDIT* Here is the exact link to page (scroll to second item down) on Haute Doll's site where you may buy the book, so you do NOT need to shop on eBay for it;):

      http://www.hautedoll.com/shopping.php?id=13

    6. Try checking at larger art supply stores. You may have a better chance of finding it there. Charrette's has it by the sheet < http://www.charrette.com/store/catalog >. Do an item search for: foam board, 1/2" and it will come up.

    7. Hi all,

Not quite sure if this question should be in the General Discussion forum or not, but I was just wondering if there were any plans for a second volume of the BJD Orbyrarium?

Another hobby of mine has released their first English-print book, and it reminded me of this one :)

      Thanks,
      Sefie

    8. I would have no idea, but is the BJD Orbyrarium a good buy?

Also, why is the name so hard to pronounce xD It makes me cry.

    9. I quite liked it - but since I'd been into BJDs for a couple of years when I got it, I already knew most of the information. Mine's in pretty good condition (some people's books came crumpled, or the binding split), but to be honest, it was the lack of editing that made me cry.

If there were plans for a second volume, I'd like to know how to volunteer editing/layout skills. I'm sure my gang could cobble up materials for articles too.

I just call it the Orby XD I cut and paste the title from my search results.

    10. I'd love to participate in a second volume in any capacity that's needed. :) I could volunteer a free sewing pattern, take pics, edit articles, etc, etc.

    11. It would be great if there was a second edition of the Orby. I just recently ordered the first Orby and I'm sure that I'd buy a second one even though I don't even have the first in my possession yet.

    12. Being new to the hobby, I thought the Orbyrarium was a very good buy and a great resource. I do wish there had been more variety in the dolls shown in the layouts...it was almost overwhelmingly Volks and while they are gorgeous dolls, they aren't the *only* dolls.

I love the patterns and the tutorials especially.

The Haute Doll people read this forum, don't they? Maybe they'll see this post and decide to do a second volume!

    13. I would love a second volume of that book. It really helped me finally take a plunge into the hobby not just admire from afar

    14. I'd really love to contribute to a second edition of the Obyrarium, as I absolutely love my copy of the first one.

(But I do have to admit, the editing made me stumble a few times too. :( )

    15. Me, too. Some of the mistakes are obvious to a veteran in the hobby, but they would be very misleading for the beginners.

Despite the mistakes, it is a rather nice book. There are a lot of good tutorials on a lot of the things that get asked over and over and over again here on the board. There are some patterns, photo-taking, set building, stringing, faceup, blushing etc. etc. etc.

I don't remember exactly, but I think I remember it being mentioned that a second book would be considered based on the sales of the first book. I've not heard anything since then, though.

    16. I wouldn't mind a second volume of the Orbyrarium; it could be quite useful, especially if it could focus on information for the more experienced BJD collector. Not so much basic information, etc. And I also second the vote for less Volks and more mention of other companies. Volks dolls are great, but the underrepresentation of other companies in the first volume was a bit sad. There are just SO many gorgeous dolls out there, it's a shame not to include them! ^^
