1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD's Under $300 (as of June 2006)

Jun 1, 2006

    1. Awesome thread, and great list ^^

I've started looking for a cheap head to practice face ups and modding on, and many of those companies also sell pretty cheap heads ^^

    2. Ah, I *just* found the updated list back on page 8! I think that most people just expect the original post to be updated, or just check the first and last pages of long threads (which I was doing when I found the reference to the updated list in the middle - at first, I thought that the original post *was* the updated list).

Perhaps if it can't be updated on the first page of this thread and stickied, it should be put in a new sticky, so everyone sees the most recent version as soon as they join, and don't have to post "looking for a cheap doll" threads? Maybe even linked to in the newbie FAQ? I'm not even sure how I found this thread myself, probably linked to from another thread.

    3. I personaly preffer not to think about prices.

I mean, it is great when you buy a very cheap doll (compared to others) because you got a BJD for much less than others, but... does it deserve it? The doll you buy should be the one you do want to have, the one who you cannot helpt yourself "falling in love" with.
The risk of buying a 'cheap' doll just because its price is obvious: if you really don't like it you will have a piece of resin around your home utterly useless.

I am not going to lie, when I see a very cheap doll I must stop myself to not buy impulsively. If I did it I surely would regret it. So I preffer trying to think with my head and not only my heart, and save enough money for the doll I really, really love.

When you have in your hands YOUR doll, not simply 'a doll', it is beautifull and almost magic, and I wouldn't change that feeling just for having a cheap doll ^^

    4. Chincheta, what dolls you buy and your spending habits are your own business. I'm sure you find your own spending habits absolutely fascinating and can't wait to share them with the world. There's at least two threads "debating" budgeting where you can tell people how much you think they should spend, to your heart's content, if that's really how you enjoy spending your time - you can always go and preach to people there if you really want.

I find it both discourteous and silly that you would come into a thread which is a resource for people planning doll purchases in order to lecture them to think about whether their dolls "deserve" having owners. This thread is an invaluable resource - please don't use it as a place to air your personal assumptions and prejudices.

    5. Agreed :\

From personal experience, I fully support anyone who wants to buy their first doll at the cheapest price. I find what Chincheta said to be personally insulting.

When I first got into this hobby, I was looking for the cheapest doll I could find. I knew that my parents would find out how much they cost and probably flip out on me, since right now I am paying my way through college. I found Mimi from Angel of Dream, only $120, and ordered her immediately. I've had her for more than six months now and I can say that it was the best decision I'd ever made in my life. I ordered her just because she was cheap, but I ended up bonding with her so well that I can never imagine a day without her.

Just because someone wants to buy a cheap doll doesn't mean that they are not going to bond with, care, and grow to love that doll. The intent in which you purchase a doll does not directly effect how you will treat that doll once you have it :\

    6. If there are people who want to spend the rest of their lives delaying getting something they want - whether its a TV, a vacation or a car - until they can aford the expensive model that they want, that is their choice. But if the rest of us want to go ahead and explore the possiblities of getting what we can afford so that we can enjoy the doll, car of vacation even if it isn't the luxury one we wanted, I can't see why anyone would feel entitled to compain about our way of life.

    7. Is anyone else as surprised as I am as to how inexpensive the Luts Kid Delf dolls are?

I always thought they were a more expensive company, and it wasn't until I saw a mold I really loved that I saw they were only $220 and was really rather blown away.

They always seem to look really nice in pictures, but my Souldoll MSD was a good $90 more than the ones from Luts.

    8. Leenah their price went down a few months ago ^___^ They were rather expensive *then again, is there ANY cheep BJD?!?* but they checked the exchange rates and updated it.

    9. Leenah - Luts MSDs used to be around $300 face-upless; they decided to lower their prices when the won plummeted, to keep it more fair for the international buyers, because otherwise they were making some ridiculous profits (which was very nice of them to do, by the way, its not like they had any obligation to). I'd expect the prices to go up again when the economy re-stabilizes.

    10. Thanks so much for this resource! With my first girl I kind of went all-out with my elfdoll because I loved her and I had over-saved by quite a bit for the kind of doll I was looking for, but this will be great to look at when my money is not as plentiful. ^.^

    11. Lol...I'll go save up for a doll

    12. I like Bobobie, well I haven't actually gotten one yet, but, Im getting 3( Song, March,Lucky) and it will be around 500-600 UDS( with everything I want with them and shipping) and my one doll I have now was like....414.80USD for 1( altogeter with eyes, shipping, wig, clothes....ect)

    13. @Yako
      and
      @Lelite

Thank you for responding my post!

@Yako: I must have hit a really lucky time as I plan to order a Luts Bory girl once the sales open again on Tuesday. And totally agreed! $220 is still not cheap at all. It's better that $308 though!

@Lelite: That is certainly really nice of them. And I'm really glad to hear that this is the reason because I love the sculpt of the Bory girl so much and really the less expensive price was a main reason for hesitation. My Soulkid was a lot more and the quality of the resin is impeccable, and I'd wish the same for any other doll (Souldoll has forever spoiled me!).

    14. This is just a little bump for this thread. Also, if anybody knows what company had SD heads for 13.50 US (I think) as a Christmas event, I'd appreciate it. I'm looking though this thread but I don't think I'll find it. T_T

:EDIT: It was a Christmas limited head at Angel-Studio. It was out of stock but I think it may have been mistakenly labeled as in-stock. D:

    15. I didn't see anyone mention Planetdoll Mini Riz or Tinybears Mina and Bracken. Since I'm new to BJD's maybe I'm wrong, but the mini Riz without face up is $156 USD and I just ordered a Tiny Mina with NS for $175 USD...

    16. Lennah - don't worry about the quality. ^^ If it's anything like what it was in November, the resin is nice and heavy, the pose-ability is great, and the face-ups are very detailed. (I got mine right before the $30 drop... But I got him in two weeks, so it made up for that). Bory is a nice choice. But, I'm biased. = )

RE - thread: Oh yeah! The Iplehouse standard mini girls are exactly $300 (boys are $310), though without anything. Hadn't they also recently lowered their prices?

    17. Lelite - yes, yes they lowered their prices! I'm planning a big update on the list in the next few days because there are some price changes and some new companies that are missing...

And I totally agree with what you said about the Kid Delfs - they have great quality, nice resin and good posing^^ I've never heard complaints about them^^

(I'm also considering starting a new thread and asking a mod to close this one - that way I would be able to refresh the first post from time to time^^)

Margarita - thanks for the suggestions^^ They are both already on the updated list which you can find somewhere in the 8th page^^

    18. @Lelite: Thanks! I'm really excited for my doll to come now (It's been 8 days or something). And I'm glad to hear that they pose well. Adelheid doesn't so much (then again, she's strung very loosely). Having a bias towards Bory is understandable though (after all, she is the best sculpt ;) )

    19. Whoever said people are here looking for SDs and MSDs, forgot about all the people who prefer a doll that fits nicely in their hand, is portable, doesn't take a lot of space, and is uberadaptable! Tiny dolls like Pukis and brownies can use a lot of inexpensive doll clothes and furniture found at most toy and hobby stores :) doubly good for the budget!

Also, Brownie FULL SETS are currently on sale til the 22nd, prices ranging from $58-88ish. They're pretty amazing to me, double jointed elbows and arms, two torso joints, etc.

I grew up believing a bargain is a win-win; you get what you want, with reduced guilt at spending so much on a luxury. So I think a thread like this, to help those conscious of their spending habits and trying to keep a budget, is brilliant.

    20. A 'cheap' doll is what got me into BJD's in the first place. I would never have spent more than $200 on a doll, so when I found Angel of Dream Rao on eBay for $165, I jumped at the chance. She's a beautiful sculpt and I love her. Now I'm starting to look at other potential dolls and am considering buying from Angel of Dream again because their prices were so good. I'm even thinking of saving up for the more expensive Minifee Shiwoo.
