I want 2 dolls only, no more than that, it's enough for me. I own more than 15 dolls now, and counting.
I like male dolls better, I prefer buying males only. Majority of my dolls are female, I like females better.
I shall stick to the SD size dolls only, and only SD size. Too late, I've already made plans to eventually own all the Volks YoSD's.
I will never buy any Volks dolls, because I was put off by their default faceups. Crazy to think all of my dolls now are from Volks, and only Volks.
I prefer to do their faceups and mods by myself. Now I send all of their heads to customizers, I never even came close to trying my hand at doing a faceup.
I would never sand the seams away on any of my dolls. They all have their seams sanded now, I couldn't stand seeing the seams lines.
I will never buy more eyes and wigs than my dolls can handle. Now I have a drawer packed full of new unused wigs, glass, urethane and zouk eyes.
I would never spend more money on my dolls than I do on myself. I spend every penny on them, can't remember the last time I bought something for myself.
I will never buy any floating heads, and buy full dolls only. Most of my dolls started off as just floating heads before I bought their bodies later on.
I shall never buy a doll from the secondhand market, only straight from the company. Curse you Y!J and DOA Marketplace.
I seriously can't justify spending more than $400 on a doll. All my dolls cost in the $800 ~ $2,000 max range.
I told myself to not make any impulse purchases on these dolls. All of my dolls are from silly impulse purchases, I never learnt my lesson.
I need to stop spending my money on dolls and save up. Currently have 2 on layaway and another coming soon.

 

I'll get a male doll, or at least a body for my male head next: FAIL! Bought a girl. Next up, girl body! XD
Going to college, I'll put buying dollie stuff on hold till i get a job here: Dollmore GO? Volks GO? I'M IN!
I'll balance buying me stuff and dollie stuff: But I can't buy that shirt, I could buy a dollie one for that price! *joins DM GO* Food? ...buuut... if I don't buy that food, and use a meal pass, I can get dollie stuff with that money!
I am going to get an SD before buying more MSD: ...FAIL! Shushu, next up MSD girl body... Yeah, I can see where this is going...

 

I will never buy an SD doll, they're too big. Yeah right. I've been through ten SD sized dolls, bought and sold. I now have 4 left.
I will never sell my first doll, I love her. Yeah, sold her a while ago. For cheap.
I will never spend $1,500 on a doll, that's insane! My Sakaki is proof that I am a liar...
I will never change a default face-up, I like it! I don't have a single doll (save for my brand-new Sakaki) with a default face-up!
I will never own a Delf El, he's too popular and main stream. I now own El and Lishe.
I hate mature minis, I don't ever want one! I now have two... that I love...
I hate those people who are always buying and selling dolls, I'll never do that. I have purchased 24 dolls and I have sold all but 7.
I don't want any more than two dolls. At one point I ended up with 14. Of course, 14 is an insane number and I had to cut down because I couldn't give them all attention. I now have 7 very spoiled dolls and have plans for only one more (Volks Tsukasa).

 

I think I just might win this one, we'll see.

Two years ago my best friend bought two BJD's. Wow they're cute but they aren't that cool I'll never get into them.
A month later I started looking at DoD and admiring from afar....then I joined DoA...

Ducan is awsome but I'll NEVER buy a BJD ever. And if I do it'll be a mini because they're cheep.
Then I saw Dollmore.....

Alright ONE doll, but it HAS to be DoC.
I went back and forth on Si or Too, then settled on Dollmore's Kara Klum because he looked like my favorite original character.

ONLY Pip, no more from the story.
But Pip would die if he didn't have the rest of the crew. I'll just look up some more and get my other three main characters from the story line....

Only the main story line characters...
But...without villans how would I ever make good photoshoots. And DoC Si and Too look JUST like Kyle and Lelhi....

Ok, but NO tinies, they don't fit into the story....
But Cyril has kids and he'd be soooo sad without them......maybe just the three for his kids.

Ok, but no Puki's, it wouldn't make any sense...
But now there's a ton on my whishlist. I gotta have them all.

Fine, but I'm not spending any mony on clothes or wigs because I can make them.
When I ordered Pip (Dollmore Kara Klum) I realized I had his measurements but nothing to model clothes on to be sure....and he can't be nude the whole time. I'll just buy one outfit for him.....and I don't think it'd be that much to just buy ONE wig....that shouldn't be a problem right?

Alright, but no thinking about any new dolls until Pip's here and finished.

I was to only have girl dolls, because I could not imagine myself buying a guy.

Failed - I fell in love with Dollshe Saint and had to have him so I bought him.

Ok so do not buy a new doll before the one before that is completely done (in the way of outfit ect)

Failed - Haplo was and is still waiting for his true outfit and maybe a wig update, but I had already bought cychwynn my IH Tatiana.

Ok.. so I was not going to get a MSD.

Failed - Cychwynn is MSD

Ok....... but then promise myself NO tiny's!

Failing ~ The second Puki Pipi starts being sold at the Dutch seller SHE WILL BE MINE!

OK.. but then surely never a floating head...

Failing ~ the next Migidoll pre order is comming up and I am getting Ryu Whiteskin

OK...OK but please do not get a doll without having a good idea about what the doll is supposed to become.

Failing ~ I have some ideas for the ryu but nothing set in stone yet

so lets see if I can stick to my final selfimposed rule: Do not get up to more than 5 dolls within the year that I bought my first doll.

I ordered Haplo in march 2008 so if I but any more before march 2009 even the final rule will be broken............

 

Only one doll. - Currently has four (fifth one is in MA and i'm debating on asking my friend if I can have her back) and I am planning on in the end to have at least 15 dolls.

No tinies - I have one, and i'm planning on at least one more.

No more bobobie dolls - planning on at least three more of those ^-^

No SD dolls - own one, and planning on 2-3 more.

there are more things I've said I'd never do, but I can't think of them right now ^-^

 

Oh my, this is a fun thread to read. I'm still relatively new at BJDs but lets see:

About 4 years ago saw ABJD article in Haute Doll magazine. Said "They are pretty but soo expensive, I'll never buy one." Actually, this lasted the four years because we were in severe financial straits due to family illnesses and layoffs. Things have been better for a few years now. This year I bought 2 MSDs, two SDs, and have a minifee ShuShu on order.My husband has one SD and another on order.(Do those count?)And he was even more vocal about not wanting expensive dolls.
I'll make all their clothes Well, hubby ordered clothes from MFD--does that count. Does buying patterns and books about how to draft patterns count?
I'll stick mostly to MSD size because of room Ok on this one so far, 3 MSDs to 2 SDs as long as husband's dolls don't count.
Only one wig per doll Hah, hah, I have to see how Yulli will look in black and red hair don't I?
Stick to less expensive eyesSo far so good on this one--but the silcone ones Elfdoll June came with are soo nice.
Don't spend more on doll shoes than on mineSo far so good but only because I have weird hard to fit feet and all my shoes are expensive--this is one rule I wish I could break. And my husband's very average easy to fit feet do not count, so there.
I only want one or two dollsHah, lasted until my first doll arrived and I saw how beautiful she was.
I only want girlsSo far I only have girls, but my story is developing and I've seen some guys that would fit in beautifully.
The old camera is good enoughBut husband's work camera, which he is encouraged to bring home to practice with takes so much better pictures; I know this one will fall soon.

I've never really set out for myself any specific rules except for:

And I've managed to stick to it. To a degree. Mano is 68-69cm, so he just squeaks in, but I really love him, so it all works this time.
I've found the Soom Mecha to be gorgeous, but I'll never buy one.

 

I said "I'll never buy an SD - too large for me". I have two now, and they are my favorites.

 

I said I'd never buy clothes and make up own.

I said I'd buy a doll so I'd have something to model the clothes I make so I can earn shitloads of monies.

*Look at the website Luts just the once, because my best friend said that the clothing was good art inspiration. (Obsessed for several weeks and slowly found MOAR sites to stare at - still mostly for the clothes at this point)
*Never EVER even think about buying one of those crazy things - several hundred for a doll?! (*cough* that went well.. currently saving up)
*Buy a body for my characters first and not make any new ones, and that the very first character to get a body would be Mac. (This counts as two! I'm not even saving for a boy.. and I'm planning on dressing my girl in steampunk - I'm sure she will eventually need other steampunk friends...)
*Save up out of my student money until I could get one and not put cash gifts towards the BJD (Yeah.. Not only is my partner putting part of her checks into savings towards our girl, having also fallen in love with BJDs, her mom says that whatever we haven't saved up by Chrismas she'll give us.)

I think that's about it for the ones I've actively broken.. but I don't have much hope for these:
*Make at least 75% of her clothing
*Floating heads/eyes/torsos = bad
*Just one until I graduate (I'm actually saving for Too & Bee-A, but Too is going to my best friend, so he doesn't count.)

 

1.) I said that I only wanted one ( like everyone else I had NO idea of the addictive beauty these dolls have)

2.) I would never pay over 1000.00 for one

3.) I would never want a small doll ( MSD size) ( want one but I am fighting with myself on it)

4.) I did not want a anthro doll but I have utterly and totally fallen in love with Cherry Blossom Alice from Elf Doll. Thank goodness they are hard to find on the marketplace .

...does four wigs, two outfits, pajamas, four pairs of shoes, and sewing three sets of lingerie count as a collection?

I keep thinking Irina must be lonely all day... and I just bought a Soom Kyrie on ebay. I couldn't resist! (and I'm hoping she arrives when the hubby isn't home *fingers crossed*)
Edit:I just ordered a Puki Pongpong! That's TWO on the way!! ARRRG!

I promised myself I'd use her for art modelling, photographs, etc. ...and not be obsessive about having her out and around the house with me.
She keeps coming out to hang out with me while I'm on the computer!

 

I said I'd never EVER take any of my dolls to work with me. Not a snowball's chance in hell. Well, my colleague insisted on seeing Luken live. He wasn't ready to go out (not in his underwear, no, sir!) so she insisted I bring my three little guys. I brought two of them (the third one couldn't be brought to work cos at that time I had no MSC to fix his face-up). And when Luken finally had proper clothes, I had to bring him to work, too.

So much for that ...

 

That I never wanted anything smaller that a SD - now I own a MSD and would love to get a Yo-SD someday ^^'

I also said that I never would get a tanned, but now I really, really want one!
