1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

"Breaking the Mold" or, loving what you thought you wouldn't.

Mar 8, 2008

    1. I said I would never use hot glue as an eye fixative. I broke this yesterday because I could not get anything I have to stick the eyes in the head of my new doll, glue was my last option. I wasn't as overkill as volks can be though so its not too bad.

    2. Twice I've said to myself 'I won't order another doll until next month' and twice I failed. Dieter was meant to be my birthday present, I'd been planning to order him in August with the hopes he'll arrive round about the end of September/early October. I ordered him in July instead.

Second time around, I swore I would order my next doll (Sieg's upgrade) next month, but I had to fall for a limited edition =____= So I ordered him last night. So much for 'next month' :|

And I always say I'll try not to order any more doll stuff, but I always fail and buy things anyway >___>

    3. I'll never look for another one, one is enough.

      *is searching for another* :doh:doh

    4. "I will only get one size! Ever! Firm rule!"
...that didn't quite work out so well, because Soom is just too wily for me. I could excuse the dollmore fashion doll as 'the dolls' doll' because she was roughly the same proportion to them as my giants are to me, and mercy knows I was getting them everything -else- I could, but...

"I really only need one. Maybe one guy and one girl at most."
...I totally blame Soom again, since my 'first' was actually Saiph and Deneb in the same order. Yeah, I held out real long on that one.

"I'm totally going to use up that fabric I have sitting around the house and make them clothes."
...I blame my psychotic work schedule for this one. I have some patterns drafted but it ends there.

"I'll never have any random heads sitting around!"
      *eyes DIM meaningfully*

"I'm just going to commission everything I need done, I don't have room in this house for pastels and supplies, so I don't think I'm ever going to even try that!"
It's surprising how little space pastels take up compared to the wig collection, really.

    5. I said I would never be able to buy one in less then 3 years
I am already thinking of a way to buy one in maybe less tehn 2 years:D

I said I would never buy a disembodied head
      I may just do that.....

I said I would buy a MSD since SDs are too big
      I'm going for the SD

I said I would not buy child-like dollfies
I want to make "chibi" versions of my dolls :D

    6. Well, I didn't have too many rules I had broken before, but now I have a couple more, so I suppose I could compile a list

      1. I said I would only get one...
Of course I did, that's what everyone said. Do you see that signature? That's two dolls there. And do you see that text below their pictures? That's a little note saying that I have another on layaway who will be home in a month or so. :sweat

      2. Then I said I would only get two...
... but that is a problem, seeing as how there IS that 3rd one on layaway. After that I didn't even bother telling myself I would only get 3. I think I knew better. XD

      3. I was not going to be one of those people who buys 3-4 dolls in one year! I don't understand how people do that!
I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up with 5 before my year in the hobby reaches it's summation in April. Of course this is assuming that my boyfriend will get me that Honey Delf for Christmas that he hinted around at. If not, it will probably be 4. But still. :sweat

      4. I will only get one SD size girl! I barely even like girls!
Of course recently I just saw Glorydoll Lucy again and I am in love with her. I don't see this one happening either. :|

I have definitely hit the fail sauce. I am rolling in it. I am eating it for dinner!! :barf

    7. Oh, these are fun to read!

      Let's see:

I would buy only one doll.
...So I have two and ::cough::twomoreontheway::cough:: But that's all! I swear! (Except maybe for a couple mnf....oh, and if they come out with Tanned versions at Lati again. But that's really it!)

I would not buy clothing for her that cost more than $10.
.... ::hides the five or six outfits bought over the past year for considerably more than that::

I would only get her two pairs of shoes. How many could she need?
...I don't know, and I'm not counting, because I don't want to know!!

    8. *giggle* Yeah. I am really working on filling up my "vertical space" because I have almost none in my room anymore. It really is amazing what I can fit in here, and my art supplies take up a fraction of what my doll clothes/wigs/etc take up!

    9. I swore I would never own a bjd and.....

I have been collecting for only a short time (2 months) and already I have 10 bj dolls. I swore that was the end. I have three more on order!

I thought that paying $100 dollars for an article of clothing for a doll was totally ridiculous until I saw the Peak's Wood's Zeigler Haute Doll spread. I couldn't order fast enough.

The only rules I have adhered to are not doing my own faceup and not doing my own restringing. So far.

      Jane

    10. I guess I'm as guilty as the rest of you:

I was supposed to have only one, but how can one resist all those adorable faces staring back at you?? :doh I now have 8.

Don't even get me started about the $$ issue. As you all know each one has to have their own wardrobe, so...

    11. 1. No floating heads (Garth David-Lloyd minimee will be ordered this winter, no body has yet been chosen)

      2. No ordering dolls in pieces (no hybrids) because it's too much work matching sculpts and resins and general structures. (Evie's head came from one seller on the market place, while her body came from another. To make matters worse, the body needs modified. Oh, and since it's not here yet, she also counts as a floating head).

      3. No spending more than $250 on a doll (Head was $110, body was $220. We won't get into the cost of clothing, eyes, wig, etc).

      4. MSD size only. Because really, who needs a doll that big? (Evie is SD, and Garth and Michel will be too. I just like the sculpts for the larger dolls better, it seems).

    12. Oh, the promises we make...and break*_*

I haven't bought or even chosen a BJD yet, but I've been learning and looking around, and there are some things I've been telling myself I WON'T do if I get one.

xD But reading on about people's experiences, maybe I shouldn't set my expectations so high!

At the moment, though, I'm really thinking of limiting myself to 2 dolls and am thinking of sticking to MSD size. SD really seem way to big for me - but I really do enjoy many of the face sculpts for SD - but so big - but who knows?:sweat And tinies seem way too small for me.

edit: Oh! And I forgot - I also want to stop myself from buying a doll that can work for a character. .__.;After seeing all these dolls with stories, I think it's best I take some time to think up a story (maybe just a general idea at least..) - especially since National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is coming up where I am from in November ( Though I'm not sure how it'll work out xP)! I think this just helps me set some guidelines, since I'm finding it really hard to choose.. I might also think of having a character doll for a minor character in a book/ect ..

    13. Oh I never say never... sure fire way to get the "I wants" going hard!!! D-:

I guess for me the untried frontier is boys. But I don't have the money for them anyhow!!
XD I'm not going to say "never" though!

      Raven

    14. 1. I love BJDs but I will never buy one!! (a few weeks later I have placed my order for my first one)

      2. I will buy only one doll (first doll is payed, head of next doll also payed, looking for body now, next complete doll will be ordered in about one month...)

      3. I won't buy any other doll or parts before my first doll hasn't arrived (incoming head in a few weeks, first doll might arrive in Nov./Dec.)

      4. I will never buy clothes before I already own the doll (bought some yesterday for a body which I don't have yet)

    15. Well, lately I find myself having trouble keeping my word when it comes to dolls...

      - I said I would ony have one BJD (already have 3, and considering to buy another. Just don't know if SD or MNF)
      - I said I never would look at dolls over $300, LOL... no comments on this one!
      - I said I would only buy one more... will I?

Never say never! As long as I feel ok with my choices, it's good!

    16. 1. I said that I didn't want to go any further than 3. Failed. 5 dolls, 1 head, 1 ordered and still counting

      2. I said that I wouldn't buy any dolls bigger than 60cm. But I have ordered my FeePle Ashley recently (70 cm doll :sweat )

      3. I said I wanted my dolls after Sereshka to be Luts Delf only. But now I have ordered a feeple and I noticed that I am also looking at dream of dolls recently. And Dolkot's.

      4. I said I never wanted to end with a family of like 8 dolls or so. But to be honest I know I will reach the 8 and go even further. :sweat

      5. I said that I don't want to turn the second head of Ashley into a doll. But I am afraid I will break this promise as well!

Those ball jointed dolls are just too pretty.

    17. Hehe, you could try Hound = 1, SD = .75, MSD - .5, Tiny = .25. Or something like that. :)

    18. I, like all of us ( or a lot), said I would only have 1 or 2 at most. I currently have 5. 2 are being sold. That leaves 3 -- but.. One of the dolls that is currently being sold is only being sold because I am upgrading him... The other one is being sold because I opted for a different body. So the two dolls I am selling will only be being replaced by 2 floating heads.*_*

I still do plan on selling one more of my dolls-- just not sure if I will be actually selling it or giving it to a friend to suck her into this addiction.

    19. Nice to see other's have backbones of rubber where dolls are concerned...and the little resin darlings know juuuust how to manipulate us to do their bidding.:sweat

      I said I'd never have a bjd.

I said I'd stick to one.

      I said only MSDs.

:| ....I am made of fail.

    20. I told myself, after Buying Soom's Beryl, that I'd never buy another doll that expensive.... Then I bought Soom's Topaz: Honey Dew. I have no will power......
