"Breaking the Mold" or, loving what you thought you wouldn't.

Mar 8, 2008

    1. Uhh...well, I guess it's true: You break one rule and there's no limit to how many more you can break. T_T

I blame this on my breaking my "No impulse buys" rule...since now I'm breaking my "Never going to sell a doll" rule as well...but, at least it's the same doll on both accounts >.< At least I know he's going to a good home and I've certainly learned my lesson! @_@

    2. Let's see:

I said I'd only buy one (I now have 12 and one on the way)
I said I'd only buy girls (six of the 12 are boys)
I said I'd only buy MSDs (4 of the 12 and the one on its way are tinies)
I said I'd only buy finished dolls (I've done faceups on 3 of them)

I can't be trusted to do anything I said I would!

    3. You know... Everytime I say never, I end up always getting or doing that very same thing. -_-

      1) Never own an SD + keep to one standard size.
~> I said this with my first doll (a DoD MSD)...
I've had all sizes, but prefer SD generally. As adorable as I find the other sizes, I just can't keep them. They aren't for me, anymore (although I'm constantly tempted by them).
      2) Stop buying dolls after I get my Woosoo [was my dream doll].
~> Triple Ha!!! I got 2 more Woosoos after my first, and then 1 el, 1 chiwoosoo, 1 lati, a couple of tinies, a dollshe, a few more obscure molds, a few girls, and then a few Volks. Only the 2 Volks boys remain.
      3) No more colored dolls
~> After my grey kumi I swore off of them, but I was adamant about getting an Onyx for Lu. Shadow gray skin rocks!
      4) No more girls
~> I generally have bad luck bringing girly-girls home. I enjoy boy dolls much more than girls. I'm still bringing Lu home, although she's incredibly androgynous, so I don't know if that counts. :sweat
      5) No more than 2-3 dolls
~> I've had up to seven at one point in time. I do tend to stick to this one, though. I'm really not the type to spread myself too thinly. ^__^; And 2-3 dolls is generally the amount I do best with.
      6) Never pay over $100 for a faceup.
~> Been there. Done that. *_*
      7) Never pay over $1100 for a doll.
~> Another one I'm guilty of. Twice.
      8) I'd never own a Heath. A Volks Heath? OMG, seriously? HELL NO!
~> You know, characters have a mind of their own. When their current molds no longer work, sometimes you find yourself looking at dolls you NEVER thought you'd own. Dolls you used to look at and say, "DEFINITELY not for me." I'm totally guilty of that... and I'm actually incredibly proud to own a Heath, now. I love love love love him, as Kiba.

    4. I think I pretty much know that I'm weak-willed when it comes to my hobbies and interests and tend to know that I should 'never say never'.

I think I said "I'll only get one!", but I don't think I ever believed it. I just said it to my boyfriend (at the time) so he wouldn't totally freak.

    5. Told myself I'de never take my doll to school.

And you can pretty much guess the rest.

I took her to school! XD

    6. I kept saying I'd only get one SD boy and one SD girl, and that'd be that. No tines, no MSD size, no animals. And I kept saying I'd save up and get the boy as soon as I got the girl...
Well, almost two years later, one SD girl, one small catgirl, one tiny boy, and STILL no SD boy. And plans for two dolls after the boy finally gets here. xD

    7. 1. Would stick to MSDs...........just bought myself and SD, should be here soon. LOL

      2. Would not mention it to my guy friends because they would most likely be bored with me blabbering.........turns out they find them quite interesting and are helping with the names and plots of the stories for future dolls. (EPIC WIN! :D )

      3. To not give a dude long hair.........he's got a long black wig. ^__^;; Oops. But then there's the funny old "I can prove he's male" thing. >___> LOL

      4. To not get a doll with really big elf ears or fangs because it creeps my grandmother out (elf ears more though.) ............Hello Bobobie Weylin! LOL Elf ears are cuuuute. :3

    8. i swore i would never spent over $60 on a piece of clothing for me, so why my dolls? - failed
i said that paying 300+ for a doll wouldnt happen - im paying off a topaz honey dew

      sigh.. so adictive:lol:

    9. lol yeah.

      1. Would never buy anythigng resin, only obitsu. FAILED~
2.Said i would only get dolls of 27 cm or smaller. er.... that didnt work. XD
3.I would only get girl dolls. Yeah, right!!!
said i would never letr one of the kids toutch them, But how could i say no to that cute face? (and doll didnt get ruined:o lol)
      4. said they would only be normal (skined, haired, eyed ect) dolls.:sweat

Ive never kept to my list.

      I know own a 60cm Obitsu girl
a "70 CM" elfdoll Wu with silver eyes and magical tattoos
a Pink skin tone bobobie pixie with red hair
and a dollzon shoyo cat girl on the way XD:aheartbea

    10. I'd told myself that I would never buy a Soom super gem female. Failed that. I now have a limited Soom girl on the way. That's what I get for falling for the lovely monthly doll I guess. :sweat

And while we're on monthlies, I'm pretty sure that I told myself at one time that I would never go over $1000 on just one doll. I failed that when I paid for Topaz!!

I also said that I would never get a 70cm doll, but now I'm really eyeing the new Iplehouse EID. I suspect that I may have him one day.

Other things I'm saying now that probably will change as time goes on:
      I will never own MSDs.
I will never own more than 10 SDs.
      I will never own tinies.

    11. I swore up and down that the only dolls I would own were SD/SD13 sized.
      ... I now own a YoSD. :sweat
I never thought I would ever want a white skinned doll either, and the last two to join my collection are both WS...
I also claimed I would never sell the very first doll I bought... and failed at that resolve too. Tastes change - collections change.

      -V

    12. Never pay more than $500 for a Head - Kept ~I want that LIZ head soooo bad
Never pay more than $1200 on a Doll - Kept ~ I came close to the $1200 really close
Always be willing to sell them if need be - Kept ~ I have sold some and cried for days
Try my best to support my resin habit -Kept ~ Still trying
      Never say Never

    13. i made myself promise that i wouldnt spent more than $200 on my first resin. and a-whoop-dee-doo, look who i'm saving for. -_-

    14. 1. I said I wouldn't get into this hobby. <<

      2. I said that I wouldn't carry my doll around with me when I went places. <<; Yeah. Let's not go there.

      3. I said that I didn't want a big list of dolls so that I could stay realistic. ...

      4. I would not buy an MSD.

      5. I wouldn't find reason in buying a 80cm doll.

      6. I wouldn't buy more than what the doll needs to create one full high-end outfit.

      7. I would not need more than two pair of eyes for every doll.

      8. Glass eyes are unnecessary when acrylics are cheaper and look just as nice.

      9. That after the last time I would stop doing face-ups. @__@

      10. I would not pierce my dolls ears or modify him in any way.

      11. I would not refer to my dolls as people or talk to them.

      12. I would not feel bad if my doll lost his favorite toy. T___T

I have honestly done every single one of these. <<; And don't care now that I did them. Lol. ^-^

    15. Get a "big one." Is 63 cm big?

    16. LOL, this thread is funny, we've all got such weak willpower when it comes to these beauties don't we?

      Let's see:

Will never own more then 10 dolls at any time
      - so far I've kept to that, I have three dolls and a floating head, and I'm selling one of those dolls. However, I'm planing to get another head as soon as that doll sells. But, I still can't see owning more then 10.

Never spend more then $175 on just a doll head
-not sure if I can stick to this one, my next doll Alicestor is going to need a lot of modding, and I'm really not comfortable doing cheek sanding myself. Eyes, maybe.

Never spend more then $50 on any single article of doll clothing
-juuuuust squeaked by with the MNF minimal long boots... they were on sale... and that was one of the first things I bought. :doh

Never pay more then $40 on a pair of doll eyes
-I'm totally going to break that when I get my eyeco eyes for Alicestor... It's only a few dollars more, but it's ridiculously hard to find good quality, brilliant, pure emerald green eyes- especially in low dome. *sigh*

Never buy a doll on impulse, or without months of consideration
-So far, so good. I think part of the thing that helps is that I'm almost totally broke most of the time. :sweat

      New rule:
-Never again buy any doll smaller then a Yo-SD/Bambicrony/Honey Delf/Dream of Baby/etc. I learned this the hard way.

    17. Those That I've broken
I'd be content with one; Nope. Dang it. Got two. Want 1 more and a body. None of us can just stop at one! :sweat :D

Wouldn't use money saved up for college to buy a doll; Haven't done it yet, but my father offered to pay for everything related to college next year if I start staying at his house too, not just at my mom's...Gah! Temptations.

Would stick to MSDs only; Helloooo DIM Lloyd, where have you been all my life and when are you coming to me? :D

Buy my Lahoo head a body before I even consider another doll; SIGH. Lahoo's face up isn't even done yet! :sweat

      Promises I plan on keeping
No girl dolls; They just don't do it for me.

No tinies; Breakable, too small, & over priced. I'd rather get a bigger doll. Though...I do love that DoD Pisces. Ah well.

Remain money conscious; I can't afford in this economy to use every single cent on my bois, no matter how much I love them. :(

    18. I don't even have a doll yet and I'm already transgressing against the beliefs I thought I'd cling to...

      1. Eyes... I always thought I might have a few changes of personality on hand, so no big deal.

      2. Yep. Said I'd only get a Domadoll Kkotmu Jado. Now I'm in love with Sard, wondering if I'll be *forced* to put a SOOM on layaway because I'm a sucker for scorpios and the hooves that Cappy and Sag may display. And I see a SOOAH on the distant horizon... I can't even afford my little Jado yet because of grad school tuition and the credit crunch! Out of my mind but I know I'll make it work! :D

      3. I still think I'll never get two of the same. Why not switch the same one out? (famous last words?)

      4. Never fell prey to this one. Discovered BJDs at DragonCon, and always thought I'd take a doll with me if I a) have one and b) go back. :D

    19. Never bring him out into direct sun or rain -
(His eyes sure are pretty in the sun. o3o And my umbrella was more covering him than myself the other night. >_>)

    20. 1. I said I´d never buy a second doll and stay with my first....
=> Now I already saved up almost all the money for the second doll and a third one is on my list [I plan to buy him around christmas].

      2. I said that if I really break rule 1, I´d never buy a girl doll but buy him his boyfriend.
=> Just look at my signature, the second doll doesn´t look like a boy, does it?

      3. I said that if I really break rule 1, I´d never never buy a non-human doll.
      => Say Hello to Miss "I-have-tiny-elf-ears"! X,D

      4. I said that I would never carry him around places where lots of people are-
=> Just one month ago we both visited the largest Anime and Manga convention in Germany.

      5. I said I would never place him next to my dogs cause I was afraid they could chew on him.
=> Now my dogs [miniature pinschers] just curl up next to him whenever I leave him on the sofa and they never chewed on him.

      6. I said that I would never restring him myself but that I would send him to someone who is experienced in restringing.
=> Last week I ran around my flat with both his thighs in one and his torso in my other hand and yelled at my boyfriend why he wouldn´t help me string[ing?] Yaru up again. XD

So, quite a lot of rules I broke but I still managed to keep some... so far. XD

      1. I said that I would never py more than 350-400 Euro [490 to 560 Dollar] on a doll.
=> So far so good, I paid 350$ for my DZ Mo the RS Mei is 140$ and the AoD Wang Zi is around 273 Dollar.

      2. I said I would never pay more than 70 bucks on doll-clothing.
=> I also managed to keep that cause I sew most of his clothes by hand. ^^

      3. I said I would never buy a doll larger than MSD.
=> Absolutely no problem, cause so far I haven´t seen a SD-sized doll I really really want.

Hrrm, I guess I can keep the last three for a while but I´m pretty sure they won´t last forever. XD
