"Breaking the Mold" or, loving what you thought you wouldn't.

Rules I broke:
1) I said I will never buy girl dolls - ordered 1 and while I'm still waiting for that one, I ordered another 1 . Damn, I don't even have have the first one home yet to see how I bond with girls and I'm already buying more.

2) Own 1 only - broke that, own 2 only - broke that, own 3 only - broke that with a vengeance since I've decided to dollify my OCs, which makes 5. But my 2nd girl is threatening to make an OC of herself and stretch that limit to 6. I think I'm nearing breaking point though, I can't support all of them and I'm at the stage where I recycle dolls to get new ones so 6 might be my limit.

3) Buy Iplehouse dolls only - broke that and sold my Iple doll, I'm unconsciously buying Soom dolls only now.

4) Don't buy 80cms - own one now. You were saying?

Rules still intact (for now):
1) No MSDs or smaller than that - still intact because they hardly interest me. Except Puki. Darn Puki, you haven't won me yet.

 

Rules I know I'll break by March:
-Don't buy into the bjd hobby, photos are enough.
--> Saving for a puki right now and spending any christmas and birthday money on a sd.

-If rule 1 is broken, don't buy a puki.
--> HAH.

-Also if rule 1 is broken, one doll shall suffice.
-->I'm planning two in the near future (May the puki, Tami the "i keep changing my mind about which scuplt") and a third (Yuri the Spinel soom however much I doubt it) maybe before I go to uni. If I get a job by then, I could have the full 5 I have planned.

-Don't sell the pullips for bjd cash.
-->Actually sticking to for the majority, I haven't bonded with my last one. I still love my relatively cheap big head plastic friends even if I'm going onto literally bigger things.

About a year or two ago I sold all my dolls, but I felt so sad after that. Getting less money may not make you happy but neither getting more money ensure that. Then I started the hobby all over again.

I said I would never buy a 70cm doll, they are too tall and out of body proportion!

--hers a good one. Along with that i said i'd get one at a time, that i'd never get more than one so i can bond with each one seperately. FAILED. My last order was an epic fairyland order that bascially included three minifees. >>;

--I didnt want elves. I love elves, but i knew if i'd gotten into the doll'd elves i was going to suddenly have a whole slew of them, and considering most of them are limited, i didnt want to mess with that. FAILED! My first boy was an elf, and i've now got him, another elf girl, and two boys that need elf ear mods. . .. and more elves will come. Oops?


the worst was the "im' gonna take it slow!" one, though. >>;; At least i didnt proclaim i only wanted one? ^^;;

 

It is so funny to read what people say. I saw my niece's doll and I could not sleep until I got one of my own. I had to have a boy because I didn't want a girl. Well, my daughter wanted a girl so I got her one and imediately had to have a girl for myself (Wang Zi got lonely ). Well now I have ordered a tiny for my daughter for Christmas and now, surprise, I want a full sized doll...... What is it with these dolls.

 

I didn't make any rules for myself when I got my first doll, but I did think that I'd only have enough money for one and that one should be enough, since he was huuuge and he was a boy. ...I currently have two and I'm waiting for a third one.

I did tell myself that my tiny girl I got would have ringleted blonde hair, blue eyes, and wear porcelain doll-esque sweet lolita type clothes. But then I found a gorgeous black wig in her size and she suddenly became Japanese and spends most of her time in a pink furisode-style kimono.

I don't think I'll spend more than $1000 for a doll, but that'd not too hard for me because most of the limiteds don't interest me, nor do Volks dolls. I feel kinda lucky that most of my favorite dolls are actually chinese ones, so they're pretty and slightly more affordable.

I also decided that I would make their clothes myself. So far, that's pretty good. I only bought one outfit for him because I couldn't really bring myself to carry him around campus in nothing but a pair of harem pants that gap in back.

I figured I was really weak-willed for getting my extra dolls, but I'm glad my poorness keeps me from going really hog-wild.

 

1. I said that i would only buy 2.. ooooh dear...i now have 9..>>...and two on the way.

2. Said i would never have floaty heads...i have 2..and 1 on the way.

3. Said i wouldnt paint them myself (now do painting, blushing, mods, etc, even for other people..>>)

4. I'll never be able to afford or wouldnt bring myself to buy a limited. Ahh crap.>> I have 2 on the way and want a third.

5. Said i probably wouldnt get a tiny..and i have...and i want 2 more

Overall...OOPS! lol

 

1) I will never mod him myself.
He's still in pieces on my floor, body sanded down and fingers separated.

2) I will never let my family members near him.
My aunt cuddles him more than I do.

3) All of his clothes will be bought/ professionally made.
Every article of clothing except his shoes were made by me.

4) I will take pictures fo him.
I don't own a camera.

The list goes on and on.

 

...well...here are the goals I'm setting for my very, very first purchase.

1. Don't spend more than $500. This may go out the window depending on whether or not I win an auction I'm expecting to bid on. I'm that serious.

2. One, and only one, for the first year at least.

3. Okay, maybe the one I want, and a girl. With lots of wigs and clothes.

4. Find a convention nearby to network, find more accessories, and possibly buy more dolls. (No wait.. dammit!! )

5. Do not, under any circumstances, remove doll from house. Except for funny travel photos.

...I'm starting to think I might be a hypocrite in this regard. ....Maybe what I need is tips on *how not to go overboard*? I'm thinking, I could sew my own clothes, knit some things...

 

I vowed that I would never buy a doll piece by piece and that I'd never have any hybrids, which were the only two rules that I made for myself.
And Bernice is a floating head right now with my intention being to get her a Dollstown elf body
And I have Moishe's head on the way this week X3

My reasoning was that.. well, actually, I wasn't being reasonable at all when I made those rules, just obsessive compulsive. :P

 

1: I told myself I wouldn't dedicate more than a portion of my bookcase to one doll. (I have a cat and with the make of the room, she just can't get that high)
2: I told my roommate that clear plastic containers would be more than enough to hold his things.

Now he's taken over the entire shelf, (save one small space for a gundam and one anime figurine and he has a chair / dresser thing I found at a craft store, and the former closet of a doll who's been mia for a long time.)

 

I said I was only going to get one.... Now I have five, and I'm about to order number six in a few weeks. That was pretty much my only restraint when it came to dolls... yeah, I failed.

Own a Minimee. never. no way.
epic fail with that rule *is expecting a minimee head*.....

have a doll that wasnt one of my already exitsting OCs.
my B&G sapphira was bought just cause i wanted the doll...his character was made up just for him
not to mention the Minimee...who will be whom he is intended to be....

own a floating head.
now i have two coming to me, one of which is the second head for a doll i already own which gives me a permanent floating head =_=
another fail...

buy any more dolls until next year
that rule was made in september...ok, probably more like august.
i just ordered the damned minimee head, the extra floating head and a tiny. i suck at this whole rule stuff.

I think it'll look good on him though. My Clare's hopefully going to be my only girl., but there are SO MANY really pretty ones I'd cave to get haha

 

Well, since I don't even have a doll yet, I haven't really broken too many, buuuut...

1. Always the first... Never gonna own more than one doll. Pfft. What a joke. I'm already planning my second one and I don't even have all the money for my first yet.

2. No mini's. But God, those little animal dolls are so friggin' cute...

3. No bigger than 60cm... But SOOM has such a lovely collection of large dolls..

4. I'll make my own clothing... Right. It's hard enough for me to understand what the directions mean for the pants.

5. Not doin' my own faceups... Though I'm terribly tempted to try.

6. WILL NOT BECOME OBSESSED.
