"Breaking the Mold" or, loving what you thought you wouldn't.

I swore that:

1.) I would wait until I received my first doll and had owned it for a few weeks before deciding on buying a second.

2.)I would never, ever own a floating head because I find the idea of a bodiless head kind of creepy and

3.) I would never own any extra wigs or eyes other than what my character needed, because he had a very set look in my mind, therefore I wouldn't need anything extra.


So... here's what happened:

Phineas still isn't here and I have already ordered him a partner-in-crime. As a result of that order, I ended up with a floating head as a free gift. To keep with my no-floating-heads rule, I ordered a body to go with the head, bringing my doll total to 3, none of whom I'll see for at least 2 more weeks. While I have set looks for Phin (Doll1) and Theo (Doll 2) I have no idea what Osriel (Floating Head/Doll3) is going to look like, so I now have 7 wigs and 5 sets of eyes for three dolls.

At least I kept the "no floating heads" rule, right?

/givesup.

 

Well first I said to myself, that I won't need any bjds, and now I have two! xD

Next I promised:

1. I won't need more than one doll, and only 10 months later from my first doll I ordered my second one.

2. I don't need to buy any clothes, since I can make them by myself...krrhm but no one can't resist Dollmore, right? ^^'

3. I don't need extra wigs or eyes...beep, a lie.

Now I'm trying to keep a break in buying, since I'm living a student life, so I shouldn't spend money for unnecessary things, but I doubt I can keep all my money in my bank account for next 4 years.

 

I just ordered my first doll, she was $800 with the additional "high heel" feet. I NEVER thought I would spend that much on a doll. So first one broken. I'm not making any more "I'll never's". I've already ordered her 5 sets of eyes, I adore the idea of changing the color and I know that will go along with mood/personality changes. I've also purchased clothing patterns, booklet on how to modify patterns so they will fit. I'm planning on making a life cast of her to make a sewing form to perfect fitting of said clothes. See? i was right to say never say never! I am in SUCH trouble. But I wouldn't have it any other way!

 

I thought I'd posted here before, but maybe not....

my rules set by me:

1: Minis only.
-my second was a 64cm....

2: Ok...so nothing bigger than Carmine!
-saving for 70cm DOI Luke....

3: Fine, but no heavy modding.
-just made a girl body a boy and I have a sleeping head in the mail I'm going to pierce and open the eyes a bit and I want to tan and pierce my Luke....

4: Only full dolls so I don't have to worry about resin matches and no hybrids.
-MNF head on order....DZ body in the mail....and my AR has Dollmore hands...shoot...

I have decided to just stop making rules....I'm only going to break them >_>;;

 

1. I've said I will have only 2 - a boy and a girl (4 boys and a puki now, still no girls, though I want 3 of them)
2. I've said I'll never have floating heads (1 at home, 1 on the way, though I DO plan get bodies... sometime)
3. I've said I'll never buy "second-hand doll" (nothing against them I just too much like the notion of a doll "done for me") - I'm buying one here right now ^_^
4. I've said my boys will have long hair (they don't)
5. I've said I'll only order face-upped dolls (1 coming, 1 to go)
6. I've said I would stick to strict doll buying plan. (plan still in place - with many sudden inclusions on the way )

And I have said many other things that are still un-broken. But I no longer think of them as "rules" and will wait to see - do I break them at some point too or not? It doesn't matter either way, but i'm just curious ^_^

 

1. I would debate a doll for at least 6 months - 12 months before purchasing after my 'ZOMG SOULDOLL KIT SALE' impulse-bought Michaela in 2005. Minuet obeyed, but Calder, why did you have to defy me?!

(to be fair, since MNF came out I wanted one, I just hadn't decided which one, and have been looking at the various heads for awhile. Considering circumstances I can't go into here Calder still counts as someone who didn't wait the requisite length of time, though he did at least wait longer than Michaela ... by about 8 hours, and subsequently freaked out my CC company XD)

2. I'd never play in chat as if my dolls were the ones commenting, like I used to do with some of my old characters I used to draw. Stupid Miki and Calder :<

Rules I haven't broken, and don't ever plan to:

A. Never seriously dress my boy(s? one day maybe!) in girls' clothing ... except as a joke.

B. No modding!

C. Never sell. (only stipulation: I require money for living and bills ZOMG RITE NAO. Only way I'll break this rule)

D. Obsess over whether they 'fit' together. Each of my dolls fits in different universes so far anyway, so it's moot (so far ...)!

E. No sleeping heads (almost considered one for Calder, then realized I'd be creeped out by the fact that it'd be a floating head when not on his body)

F. No 'upgrading' or 'changing molds' for any character.

G. Michaela is only varying shades of brunette, Minuet is only varying shades of blonde. (Calder hasn't decided on his hair colour yet). --- I feel this one will be broken eventually.

There are a few other rules I haven't broken yet, but these are enough to post, especially since only TWO of them are on-topic.

1) Not spend too much time on the computer looking at dolls..........

Curses to you 'recession/credit crunch/doll eating economy'....also, one of my all time favourites was re-released and for me was an absolute must have.

3) Not own more than six dolls
Not broken this one yet, got to 5 before rule no. 2 kicked in...

4) Only mature sd's

Umm.. Get a Minimee. I loved other people's but never wanted one myself because I was worried about body matches and faceups and the cost...

But I have since been seduced by group orders and have two of them paid for... One getting ready to go to casting. I swear, they're infectious... It's like they're breeding...

1.) I would only buy two dolls
And now I have 6 complete dolls and 6 floating heads. (the last time I counted them)

2.) Never mod a doll
I thought it was insane to go drilling in a $ 110 head. XD
Now I want to mod every new doll at least a little bit.

3.) I would make a lot of clothes
My dolls aren't naked, they have one whole outfit each. Also I have bought many fabrics but didn't used them. This will work out in the end I hope, because I like making clothes for them.

4.) I thought I could never sell one of my dolls.
I sold two and 1 head.

5.) After I sold my tiny I said I would never buy a tiny again.
few weeks later... bought a Bambicrony who is even tinier. XD

6.) Thought upgrading or changing characters is stupid.
I'm upgrading my former tiny into a MSD. My Shiwoo changed so much I lost count of it.
Also my former DM Torrie will be upgraded in a SD.

7.) I never had interest in a gay dollie. Especially not a super gay drag queen dollie who wears a lot of pink. XD

Never buy a doll over $700. (oops! ^_~)

 

Well, after I decided to sell my collection and start over again, I made these rules:

1. Stick to one size range
I've been eyeing a BF Sarang for my next doll, who isn't Yo-sized

2. Never buy dolls larger than SD sized
I think I can stick to this one

3. Never buy more dolls than I can afford or care for
I'd rather have a couple dolls and lots of accessories than many naked, bald dolls.

4. Don't keep wigs and eyes if they aren't being used
I've already bought two wigs for my girl, so...

 

After purchasing Geoff:I won't buy another doll, cause I'm in college and I gotta save.
Knox my first SD is on his way home.

After learning about dollfies head caps coming off and removable eyes:I'll probably glue the headcap to the skull, cause that concept scares me.

What an idiot I was.

I won't take my dolls to school they'll get damaged.
Brings doll to school like 3 days after she arrived.

Bring dolls to work? No way.

- I would only get one. But one went from wanting a Dollshe Husky to deciding that I wanted a Kill_U_2nd to be a character from my story and I HAD to get him first because K-Doll was doing the last sale of him. XD

I now have my Kill_U_2nd and a LadySaiyuki Ted.

- I said I would only ever have one tiny and Ted was not the one I planned for. XD

- I said I would never have a bunch of floating heads. I now have 3 and a couple more that I'm hoping to get in the next few months. >.> I will, however, work on getting bodies for some of them shortly as well.

Yeaaah, my wish list is now super long so I kind of figured the "only getting one doll" rule was out. ^w^

 

as lots have said, i said Zero would be my last but i bought a D.O.T Delphine....

Who costs more than i spent on Nabiki, and i said id never spend more than 700 on a doll....>.> she put me over 1000cdn.... Damn our canadian dollar....

but i am going to be selling my Nabiki, it makes me sad, but i only have room for two, (i may buy a puki/similar size girl too )

Also i said they have enough clothing unless its cheap....
**but its winter!!! i HAD to buy them a jacket, and then Zero needed eyes, so why waste shipping.....clothing...jackets... lol... darn you dollmore!! lol....

i thought i wouldnt be taking them out, but im really wanting to start out a BJD community in my city... so it makes sense to take em out

oh and i said to myself a few years ago when i saw my first BJD doll at a con and found out how much they were....
"im never getting one of those... they're too expensive"..... i own 2 currently and a third paid for and on the way...

3. "I never want a doll smaller than an MSD. They're just too tiny!" - I'm getting a Bobobie Lucky white skin boy XD he'll be the twin brother of my friend's Bobobie Lucky white skin girl :3
4. "I'll never get those little anime dolls (I don't know what they're called)." - I plan on getting a cat for every Miyazaki movie that has a cat playing a significant role eventually XD

 

Rule #1: I'm only getting one girl and one guy who looks a bit more adult and possibly one MSD girl and boy.
LOL. Yea right. I have two SD boys, more (just his head) on its way here and an MSD Boy.

Rule #2: I'm only using him (My first boy) for molding poses when I draw. I will not take photos of him.
I only used him in my drawing for the first time a few weeks ago... And yes, I do take too many photos of him.

Rule #3: No photostories. I'm not a crazy doll person.

Rule #4: No boyxboy.
PAH. That rule was broken at the first meet.. AND NOT EVEN BY ME! Sora had a grabby arm... for a boy. > ~ < My other SD and SD boy to be.. Their characters are gay, which means the next boy I get will also be (My boy to be's boyfriend). y ~ y At least Jeje isn't really.. He just tends to.. Flirt with any humans, regardless of gender.. > ~ >

Rule #5: Besides a default outfit for them so they're not sitting around nekkid, no buying clothes. I'll make them all!
At least for my SD boys, this still stands true.. But I've bought sooo much clothing for my MSD, it's disgusting. D:

2: I said I'd only have two, so they wouldn't be lonely (My numbers have doubled)
3: I said I wouldn't let them rule my life *pauses to rearrange mallory*
4: I said I'd never own a boy (this one I have kept. But I'm dying inside for a DOT camine )

 

I've done this a little. I promised myself twice that I would NOT buy anything else until I got another doll to keep Amber company, but I just bought four wigs a few weeks ago XD

She's been gone over a year now.

"I'll never have more than 10 dolls."
The most I had at one time was 13.

"I'll never go back to SD-sized." (after I got into mature minis)
I'm back to preferring big boys.

Various other "never will own this kind of doll" I have had and sold through the years.
I'm very indecisive.

 

Haha well my first promise was... never to buy a doll! 'Way too expensive', I said XD

Also I promised myself I would last half a year with my first doll before buying another one... aaand that took me about 2 months.

Now I decided not to even come up with rules, no point holding back the only hobby that makes me this happy ^^
