1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

"Breaking the Mold" or, loving what you thought you wouldn't.

Mar 8, 2008

    1. I'm just at the beginning of my BJD adventure, if I don't start earning more in the future I may never have the money for one, so I can't say then and now but thought I might record my current would nots. We'll see if they change.

      I would not:
      - buy young or child-like dolls
      - buy minis
      - buy girls
      - buy the faceup that comes with the doll
      - buy separate parts and attempt to string them together myself.
      - buy more than two

I would like to learn to do my own faceups, make my own clothes and wigs. We'll see how that goes. I'm always intending to do things and failing.

    2. One thing I never thought I'd want is a doll with elf ears. Not that I have anything against them, but they never really appealed to me. However, I fell in love with MNF Eliya and Karsh, and now have them on order! (plus my mom ordered and Eliya too, so we'll have twins of her!) They were just too gorgeous to pass up, and I actually think their ears are cute ^-^ I also said I would stick to just one size (SD size), but, as you can see, that didn't happen either. Well, actually, I broke that rule years ago, but then sold all the dolls that were other sizes and said I'd only have one size. But, yeah, that lasted all of about 8 months.

    3. Hmm well:
-a girl (My Midori is frilly as hell, and I love her)
-resin (I now have nothing but resin dolls, I used to own obitsu)
-hetero relationship (I currently have Midori, and what used to be my gay, but now Bi character Devlyn together O.O)
-modding (never though I'd do it, but Now I've opened dev's eyes, resculpted Midori's bust, and lips!)
-tiny (I love the LTFs O.O, though I haven't successfully kept one yet ^_^;)
-MSDs (now mostly what I like, Midori is sort of an MSD <.<)

    4. I never wanted a tiny ((my first doll i'm ordering on friday is an Elkfin))
I hate pale white skinned dolls ((she will be white skinned haha))

so yeah it's a very short list that has now gone out the window haha

    5. I never wanted a resin BJD! And now I have one on the way, 3 on my wishlist, and another that I'll be ordering shortly.

    6. I used to haaaate minifees. Their eyes just looked awful and huge and alien to me. ....Now I have a Ryeon on my wishlist, and possibly more. DX

I also never thought I'd like a Volks doll, but Kurumi and the F-34 have totally changed my mind. I still feel pretty meh/dislike most of their sculpts, but those two definitely made me realize Volks isn't all bad.

...It's funny, because I also used to seriously despise baby-faced dolls. And the two dolls that made me change my mind about companies I didn't like before are both pretty baby-faced. XD

    7. I told myself I wouldn't...
      - buy a doll that was anime-ish looking (I just ordered a minifee)
      - order more than 1 doll a year (I have my second doll of the year on order)
      - fall in love with a tiny (I love a bunch of them now)
      - plan to get more than two dolls (I already have a feeling that will not last)

    8. List of Things I Will Never Want in a BJD:
      - Never go smalled than MSd (I already ordered Rami whose a PukiPuki. He should be here in a month.)
      - A girl. (still have no interest in the girls, but I love playing with my mom's girl.)
      - white skinned dolls (I'm in love with Yder white skinned and my sister's Sha)
      - sleeping head (I couldn't order Rami without one. It was a nature thing to have one for him.)
      - another MSD. (My dad's going to get me Ryan from Iplehouse if I can't persuade him to get Mars first)

Honestly, When I started this hobby, I thought I would always know exactly what I wanted and What I didn't. But, obviously, my mind and heart have other ideas.

    9. Well i still have my do not want list... i am still waiting for my frist doll which i have yet to pay for... any whoo here is my list for peeps who want to know,

      Only one wig per doll,
      Matching shoes with outfits,
      dont get too many eyes,
      no large dolls and
no makeup on doll... i like to see real beauty ^_^

    10. For me:

      ~ 2 dolls per year (hahaha........yeah, that didn't work.)
~ Nothing smaller than a MSD (I have a Bobobie Tiny and a 27cm Bambicrony girl now!)
~ Only 4 SDs (...yeah, not happening.)
~ No Volks dolls at ALL (I like a couple of them now. :) )
~ No white skinned dolls (I have two, and a third on the way)

    11. I swore I was only going to get one doll ('as inspiration') now I have two, 1(and a head) on its way and another planned...
I also swore I wasn't going to get a boy doll (yer... the one on it's way is a boy- infact it's two boys, that share the one body..)
Which brings me to, no floating heads... see above.
And no white skin (all of mine except my first are white skin...)

I've given up trying to set myself boundaries, I just seem to enjoy breaking my own rules waaay too much!!

    12. HA HA--I wasn't going to HAVE a BJD--too expensive, silly hobby. Oops, never say never. Then it became...just one (big laugh here please!)...got american BJD, she needed a boy. I will stop at 2 now it is 5 and counting. I do have to say that I will never have a scarred/bloody/vampire BJD though. And that is a fur-sure!

    13. This thread is hilarious. XD Ah, the fickle human condition!~

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who turned up her nose at Volks in the beginning, only to emphatically recant later on. I think it was my idea of beauty that changed, really, since at first I was all about the "barbie-pretty" dolls, but now I'm finding myself compelled by faces with odd features. And Volks molds really do have a lot of character to them that I somehow missed at first. *_*

      Other myths:
"No girls, EVER" - I now want at least four.
"No tinys!" - Oh Littlefee Bisou, how you have slain me. T___T ~<3
"No MSDs!" - I have an entire box full of things I've bought for an MSD I don't even own yet.
"No fan dolls, it's uncreative!" - Somehow, after a couple months of heads floating and body snatching, my first whole doll ended up being a Hyde minimee, and is still "Hyde" to this day. If that doesn't win me a Hypocrite-of-the-Year award, I surely don't know what will. ;;;;XD

      We're all mad here.

      .

    14. Wow - never knew this thread existed!

For me, it was immature MSDs. If I was going to create a character for a doll, I could easily write about an adult... but a kid? AS young as I am, I still barely remember what my childhood was like. I had absolutely no clue how to write a child character.

Even now, I'm still facing difficulties. Even when I have one, I worry that I'm making her character too serious.

    15. List of Things I will Never Want in a BJD
      • A boy (got one xD)
      • Wigs in unnatural colors (I have a blue and a yellow one; I want pink, red, and orange in the future)
      • Any clothes without frills (I've got a lot of cute sweaters and winter clothes now)
      • An immature mini (I've actually stuck to this)
      • A 1/6 doll (I don't have one, but I finally found one I really, seriously considered)
      • 1/3 dolls (Ha, I think my wishlist is 80% 1/3 dolls! But I can't afford or store them and minis right now.:()
I err... didn't do too well?:sweat It's hard to know what you really like when you're just starting out in any hobby, though.

    16. * A MSD. I wanted a SD. Because bigger is better, right? o________o
      * A boy. I wanted a girl.

Now, my doll is these two things. ((Well he dresses and can pass for a girl so I guess it is not that far off from what I originally wanted.....*laughs*))

    17. I started off owning SDs and thought I'd never go smaller. Now I own MSDs too, and have tinies on my wishlist (none owned yet). Never thought I'd be sucked in by tinies! (I blame Soom!)

I once thought all CP/Delf sculpts were unattractive -- they looked way too anime for my liking. But over time I've grown fond of Chiwoo, and now think Lishe is really beautiful. Maybe I'll get her one day!

However, I still don't want dolls with fantasy parts, or sleeping/dreaming heads, or slim minis, or 1/6 fashion-sized dolls. I don't see that changing anytime soon. But who knows! :XD:

    18. Then & Now
-Get a Volks, Get a volks(although I didn`t really lie em ) No Volks!Ever!-i will not jump in a bandwagon againe
-I will never consider a Soom I have been Soomed ! Badly.I whant a Chrom and a Rosette Fir and others but these are my favs
-No more than 1 MSD I now have 4 and love them
      -Mostly boys They are equal
-NO TINY I have a 27 cm bobobie isabella, but i`m not really bonding to her:(
-No doll over 400 I payed 650 for Meguri , and it was worth every penny
-No tan doll I love them now ,and consindering a DZ tan Cosmo
-Not buy clothes Whent over that
      - no wigs in unnatural colors I have pink& blue and they are awsome!

    19. I didn't want a Soom at first, but Migma is just too pretty. I love that light violet resin.

But since she's limited and much more than I can afford right now, I'll admire from afar. I think I just heard my wallet sigh with relief...?

    20. I always said I would only get tinies and MSDs...and now, I have 2 on the way. One is a tiny, and the other is an SD!

ETA - once I got my tiny, and then my SD, I realized that the tinies aren't for me AT ALL. I LOVE my SD. I am expecting my second soon...SD and bigger for me from now on! Although I wouldn't say no to "trying" an MSD...I want to see one in person first, though.
