1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

But I wanted THAT faceup...

Aug 18, 2023

    1. I think if you sent the head you received to a face up artist, with the specific things you dislike and the image of the company photo mentioning you specifically liked that lip shape, and you don't like the nose blushing, you'd like specific shape or expression from the brows, they could make something closer for you without the concern of being asked to copy a face up exactly.
I'm glad they agreed to give you a refund! Those faceups really don't look the same at all!

    2. I think people forget that to become a master, you used to have years if not a decade or more copying your masters technique in his workshop and it was only when the master thought you had perfected the technique that you put your own name out to the public.

I also think its kinda silly how people acvuse others of copying what in essence is human makeup standards. It like I perfected the use of pink eyelashes, so no one else is allowed to use them. EVER!

If the company isnt going to fix it, then you have the right to find someone who will. You paid for a service, not an unique fine art painting. At least they refunded you for the poor service.

I know someone who does warhammer 40k....he paints his own figures. He uses the standard color palette for the army like everyone else. Overall, his army is going to look like he copied, but just by individual technique, when you really look at the detail, each army is going to have nuances that set them a part from each other.

    3. Just ask the company if you have permission to commission a faceup based on their promo photos. I'm guessing 99 precent of companies are going to have zero issue with people commissioning the same look in situations like this where you bought the doll from them.

    4. Oh man, it sucks when a company that has dependably done good faceups in the past suddenly change style or the artist start freestyling it. It does make it awkward because you have no way of knowing when the company may return to more faithful faceups until someone posts an owner photo which could take some time between the doll release and the person posting!

Yes, I think I saw that thread and faceup. I can see why it would be disappointing, especially if it was the faceup that drew you to the doll in the first place!
I don't think the faceup on my doll can be made to look more like the promo faceup as would need areas of paint removed. I've touched up a few faceups in the past when they have been a bit pale or lackluster so feel I can add to a faceup. But removing paint has never worked very well as you get an edge line with the sealant. I think a full wipe and new faceup is going to be the only realistic option :sweat

Thanks, i'm glad you think the faceup is generic enough that it won't be such a big problem to commission something similar. I can definitely understand why an artist wouldn't be comfortable if they felt like they were being asked to copy a faceup. I would feel awkward as an artist if someone wanted me to copy someone else's specific style! :thumbup
