Buyers remorse; when does it happen and what does it mean?

Jul 2, 2005

    1. Nope no regrets. I've been happy and loved every doll I received at least at first so just becuase they didn't end up working out in the end game, I don't regret them.

    2. Even when a doll hasn't suited me, I don't regret buying that doll. I really treasured having my first doll in my possession, and wouldn't have returned her. Given the choice, I would have bought her all over again, even though she ended up not being the right doll for me. I'm glad I had the chance to see what she was like!

    3. No. It happens all the time, but I've not had it happen to me. I adore every one of my dolls!

    4. I've regretted buying, I usually end up selling. I think I've bought and sold four dolls because they weren't what I expected.

    5. Not yet, fortunately. Since I only have one doll, haha.
      And she is PERFECT! <3

    6. I've bought three dolls on impulse because they were cheap, and I regretted them all. They just weren't what I really wanted and didn't draw me in. I've been trying to sell the last of the 3 since August and I hate it more every day. D:<

    7. Good luck Nefla. I had tow dolls that didn't go to well with me.

    8. I've been guilty of impulse buying way too much. Thats why I have told myself no more impulse buying from now on. Lets hope I can stick to that.

    9. Yeah. Don't want to keep complaining, but I ordered a doll back in April. It arrived in October and had to be sent back. Still no doll. Thinking I should just move on, but I'm still waiting.

    10. I've never actually felt regret after buying a dolly, really...but the closest thing that came to it for me, was a Lati Cara I had. I thought she was awesome and really cute, and when I got her, I liked her, but she didn't quite grow on me...I think she lasted about 2 weeks before I traded her for another doll which I instantly hit it off with, though I ended up trading her, because I had the opportunity to get one of my absolute dream dolls (who I still have, my Mnf Seorin, Andrew). :3

Though, on the other end, I have had regret in *selling* a doll. I had a bought a Puki for a *REALLY* good price, it was practically a steal, and when I got her, she had the cutest faceup and everything~ But, unfortunately due to my finances, and getting ahead of my self, I had to resell her, and to this day I still miss her. Grr. Lol ^^;; oh well. You gotta do what you gotta do...

    11. This did not yet happen to me... but I just abandoned buying a doll of fear it would happen xP
I actually wanted to buy a doll for my sister as a gift... but after thinking about it more... she likes bigger dolls and the one I was getting her was a little too small xP

So I am not really regretting buying.... since I did not buy yet... I'm more happy avoiding the regret XD

    12. I felt regret a few days before my boy arrived but once I saw him, it disappeared.

    13. Hmm... I wouldn't say I've had real regrets with any of mine, though there have been a few that I knew right off weren't the right dolls for me.

The first was an Igon head, who I had intended to use for a character doll. He was really an adorable sculpt, but once I had him in-hand I knew there was no way he was going to work for what I had in mind. I kept him around for awhile, but never really came up with a new plan for him... so eventually I sent him off to a new home. He was the first of the minions I ever sold.

After Igon, I had a long run of great luck. Even though there were a few other dolls that I eventually sold for one reason or another (My first pair of MNF Shiwoos, my Hound, Shakti-), I pretty much liked everyone I added. That lasted until I made an impulse buy on a doll from a company that I was unfamiliar with.

My Angel Studio Gabriel was also a very cute sculpt, but her over-all look just didn't match the rest of the crew once I saw her "in person". Sitting next to the rest of this bunch, she just looked too... doll-like, I guess. Completely lifeless. I think I kept her about two weeks. She was only here that long becasue I was too busy to take good pictures of her for a sale post.

The last one I ended up not keeping was a MigiDoll Yu Jin head. Again, like the Igon, he was a nice sculpt but once I got a good look at him there was no way he was going to work as Lir. The expression was wrong. So... the day I got him, on to the MP he went.

So... while I can't say I have regrets, I also can't say that I've had a 100% success rate with my crew. Pretty close, maybe, but not a perfect score.

    14. Sure, several times.... usually when I bought a limited doll before I saw owner photos of it. Three different times I've bought a doll and known pretty much immediately that I wouldn't be keeping it, and all three of those were limiteds that I bought before I saw owner's photos because if I waited it would have sold out.

They wound up not looking like I'd hoped, and I didn't like them as much in person, or realized that as nice as the sculpt was I had absolutely no desire to own it. I sold them and I don't regret that a bit -- BJDs are so expensive that I can't justify keeping ones I'm ambivalent about.

    15. Oh yes, my happy doll Dorothy, I bought when the AUD was really low against the USD so I paid almost $1000 AUD for her ($970 USD these days). Well, her seams were horrendous - you could cut your fingers on them, she arrived with her headcap magnet placed in incorrectly so her headcap wouldn't fit, the outfit turned out to be a cheap one I could have bought for $60. Gosh, what was I pleased with? I ended up fixing the seams and the headcap, but her body had hands that were claws, the sculpting of the body was rough and cheap especially since my first doll was an Elfdoll which is really professionally sculpted. I ended up selling her for less than half what I paid. She was my second doll and really soured me on the hobby for a while. I'm glad she wasn't my first. I would've felt so ripped off. I've also bought cheaper dolls and regretted it, a Dollmore Kyle - would have preferred a bigger head on the body. Nowadays, I'd probably just try and headswap as I like the body. Hmmmmm, yep a few regrets along the way, but I've ended up with a collection of dolls I adore so it's worth it in the end.

    16. I have. One that I regret was a gift which I asked for for Christmas and when I opened her I was just not so enthused, but being a gift I can't part with her. She has her charms though and I try to focus on that.

One doll my DM Torrie I regretted when she came because she had cost $500 or so and while waiting for her I fell in love with Volks Luna and kept thinking- I could have put that money toward Luna. When she did come I had a terrible time getting her long elf ears in and some of her outfit components didn't fit so that just made it worse. But after a short time she quickly became one of my favorites.

When I have sold dolls it's usually been because I needed to finance a different one which I liked more.

    17. I haven't. I've liked all my dolls when I recieved them, but at some point realized, that even though it was a pretty doll, I didn't really wanted to actually own it.

There has only been one doll, I ended up disliking the look of, but it was after an accident and a mod.

    18. yeah, when the company was a nightmare and the doll has flaws beyond what is normal.

    19. Thanks ^^

Kalani: Yeah, I've just recently learned that lesson too heh. No random dolls that I don't absolutely love.

    20. Can't say I've ever regretted buying any doll I own or previously owned. There were a few dolls that, I realized after they've been here for some time, didn't work out for me--and I don't regret those instances at all. I enjoyed having owned them during that temporary period, but it was time for those dolls to move on to new owners who could appreciate them better than I. :)
