Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Buying dolls on credit?

Nov 14, 2008

    1. i believe in paying it either through layaways or straight up.

credit card late interest payments are nv favourable.

    2. when i order a doll, i have enough money to buy it right away, but i always pay by credit card because once at the bank they told me to always use my credit card when buying online in case anything goes wrong and i need to get my money back or something. so then i just wait until my credit card statement comes and pay it in full.

i don't think i'd like the feeling of having things i hadn't fully paid for.

    3. This is what I do and thank goodness for it. My debit card is also a Visa card, so I can purchase things as I would with a credit card, but I'm using money that I already have, so there's nothing to pay off.

I don't want to think about how far in debt I'd be with a normal credit card... o_o

    4. Yeah! It's a super handy function of a CC. I was told that if I made an online purchase of £100 or more, and the item never shows up, or, as the lady who suggested it to me at the bank mentioned, if the recession swallows up yet another business and a customer happened to be mid-transaction with them... you can get your money back. It's protected. :) I've seen anecdotes in various places (not just on DoA) in which people's online purchases have gone AWOL... whilst I'm hoping that never happens to me *touch wood* I really like the idea of having the CC protection safety net... ^^

There are many advantages to using a credit card that are unavailable for other methods of payment. It's definitely worth considering.

    5. ^ This. For example, building a credit score. I don't know how important this is in other countries, but I know that my brother was denied a student loan for college because he had absolutely no credit history. I got scared that the same thing would happen to me, so I applied for a card through my bank and used it for small purchases at first, like gas. The first big thing I bought on it was a new phone when my old one broke... and I paid that bill off within two months. Ever since then, when I have something big to buy, or something I would like to pay in smaller amounts, I put it on my card. What's the difference between paying with credit or putting a doll on layaway? I'm sure there's more instances of people backing out of layaway deals than there are people who bankrupt themselves buying dolls on credit.

I think it's far better to have a credit card that you pay off regularly than to not have one at all. If I had been denied for loans, I wouldn't have been able to finish college. Of course, it's important to be responsible about credit... which is why I refuse to buy my Pandora until I've paid off my existing bill.

    6. I totally agree Pazuzu. The only time that strategy doesn't really benefit you over layaway is when you have a really high interest rate, which can happen to people with limited or no credit history. In that case you can end up paying quite a bit more for your doll than you intended!

    7. Credit cards are DEFINITELY more secure. It's also much easier to clear fraudulent charges since no "real" money is exchanged until you pay your bill. I use my crdit card for all online purchases for this very reason.

I don't think there's anything wrong with using a credit card to pay for a doll (or anything else) as long as you're responsible about it. Buying a doll you really can't afford and spending ages paying it off is not so smart, but but if you're good for the money, but think it would be smarter to pay it off over the course of a month or two, that's perfectly responsible.

    8. I think it's ok to buy on credit if you're smart about it, like Pazuzu and irezumifan said. But personally, I wouldn't buy a doll on credit unless my financial situation was 100% secure. However, if I had a 100% secure situation, I probably wouldn't have to buy a doll on credit... heh. :)

    9. Years ago, I purchased BJD from online shop by credit card, That was famous bjd agency shop in that time but suddenly fails and they never ship my doll. That was a horrible experience but I can get payback from Credit card company....:sweat so I use CC when buying online, but I'd like to pay by real money than CC.

    10. I have only ever done this with SOOM MD dolls.... because you never know what they are going to have... and only have a short amount of time to be able to buy them T_T

    11. I've only used PayPal that's tied in with my bank account to purchase my dolls, even though I do have a Visa card as well. I'm pretty skittish about purchasing something that's generally considered an expensive luxury with a credit card because, with the current economic climate, I'm afraid of buying something like an expensive doll with a credit card only to have my current financial situation change for the worse and I'm saddled with paying off a credit card expense with money that I would need more for essentials (like food).

    12. I put mine on layaway and pay her off in installments. That means that I have to save as much as I can during the month to try to pay her off early, lol! But with school and me needing a new car, I've been doing everything at once, so installments seem to be the only option right now.

    13. I always use to use have a balance on my credit card and now that Ihave finally cleared t I don't want to ever use it again if I can avoid it. I think they are fine if you are disiplined but sadlyI am not one of those peopple :(. I am now saving up for my next doll and I think I feel a whole lot better when I finally get her because I know there will be no huge bill to follow.

    14. I agree with the general statements about Credit Cards. They are good when making transactions online because u r more assured in getting things straightened out if something goes wrong. I like to use my card instead of other forms of payment. That doesn't mean that we can be frivolous though, I only have one doll, which i jsut got not that long .ago. But I used my card, because of that reason. My reason for waiting on the next one is that i don't have enouigh money in the bank right now for a second doll, but when I do then I will make the payment by credit and pay myself back.

    15. I'v used a credit card to buy all my dolls, but it was a case of I had the money available and could pay off the card right away. The CC was just for conveniance. :)

    16. I bought one of my dolls on a credit card. It was a buy too good to pass up on something I had been waiting to find. I'm paying it off in chunks, and am able to pay it off at a little less than the stores offering layaway ask. Responsibility and keeping within your own guidelines is what's important. I have several thousand dollars available on credit cards, but you wouldn't catch me spending that on dolls. I keep telling myself to remember that ol' rainy day.

    17. Hm...I had never thought of putting dolls on a credit card because I didn't want to rack up that kind of debt, but the points brought up about charge protection has made me rethink that. Maybe it WOULD be better to throw it on a card, once I've saved up the money to pay it off immediately...

    18. All of my dolls (bjds/dollfie dreams) have been paid in full via my debit card (it works like a credit card and is through visa but it is actually a debit card) or paid off through layaway (I traded one of my other dolls for one of my pukis though). My husband is the major driving factor behind this decision, he is not a big fan of the bjds in general so if I want to buy one, I have to save up for it all by myself with no "cheating". We do use our cc's for other stuff but we both really try to only spend spare cash on our hobbies rather than resorting to our cc.

    19. don't make it a habit. once you do it, you migh do it forever...

i'd rather pay it in layaway directly to the seller (as the amount is fixed) rather than paying to credit card company with high interest rate. although i still pay it with my credit card, but i pay the cc in full every month...so, still, in the end, i credit to the seller, not to the cc company...it's a big no-no for me to do that.

    20. Credit? *shudder* That's one quick way to dig yourself into a hole. *_* I always pay full cash for my dolls. I would rather that my actions didn't come back to bite me in the rear later on in life.
