1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. My mother is getting a second hand doll for her first BJD, so she's excited. :)

    2. The DOA marketplace. I like the fact that I can converse with the seller.

    3. DOA marketplace!
I got my two babies from there :D

    4. i honestly don't know yett... O.o
but i don't trust eBay for some random bizarre reason

    5. I love looking at the marketplace. Its great that sellers are usually nice enough to offer layaway. I really love having that option since it allows me to get a doll that I'd like but couldnt buy new (I am horrible at saving). It also means that I'd wait alot less. (maybe a week or 2 after the doll is paid for)

    6. I troll the marketplace whenever I get the chance and prefer to use that when buying "second hand dolls".

    8. I guess how people say it depends on how people view the dolls. To someonw who sees these dolls as just beautiful objects is probably more apt to say 'second hand' but someone like me who gets uber sentimental and attached just thinks 'up for adoption' and 'previously loved' dolls just makes me feel warm and fuzzy

    9. Well, second hand just means it's been in other hands before. It doesn't mean anything bad.
But I do like it when they say they put their dolls up for adoption.

    10. There are 11 pages of replies and I have not read them all! I always call my second, third, fourth... hand dolls "pre loved".

I only have two bjd's, Luts Moon (Dex) and Luts Soony (Sky). Dex was very much preloved, in fact after I bought him off a forum I was PMed and told that he had had several homes before he came to me.

But it was strange because he felt really different to when I got Sky (brand new) it was like he had already got his personality, he had been out and seen the world and was ready to settle down with me.

He certainly doesn't feel "second hand" like an old coat or anything!

Also I am very impatient and I would rather buy something in the UK that I can get my hands on immedietly than order it direct and wait ages!

Impulsive, thats a better word, I like to want it today, get it tomorrow!!!

    11. Ebay and the DoA Marketplace are favourite haunts. My first boy came from ebay because he was in the UK and I didn't want to risk import duties on something I might not like. (I hadn't even seen a bjd in the resin at this stage.)

Since then I've bought Amber, Esme, Mish, Rose, Alaric, Meryit and 2 still unnamed dolls pre-loved and there'll be more after that.

One of the major reasons for buying pre-loved is that it's more likely to be dismembered. I often want a head but really don't want the body. Plus it's good to recycle.

Yes it's nice to be the first one to own a doll, but I get the same 'ooh, someone's coming home' thrill no matter where they come from or how old or new they are.

    12. I like checking out eBay and the Marketplace here, I tend not to look at eBay so much now because of all the scams that keep being run, and I feel a lot safer on the Marketplace. I like pre-loved dolls because they've already been brought to life in a way, they've just moved in to your home fully formed :) I also like that you can find dolls in your own country already, so no customs fees!

    13. my boy was "pre-owned" , but he was just what I wanted and had spent some time looking for

    14. I hope that the majority of my dolls come 'second-hand'. I am adopted myself so I have a special place in my heart for others like me, even if they're resin. =^_^= And as mentioned above by a few people, I like that I can locate dolls within a certain radius so I don't have to fret over shipping, customs, and all the horrible things that can happen to my precious on its way home. *L*

Though from experience I will say that, though I prefer the DoA marketplace for purchases, it's not perfectly safe. So there are cons to go with the pros of buying second-hand.

    15. At first I only looked at new dolls because I had never used a forum-style marketplace before, but lately I've been looking more and more at pre-loved dolls because often it's a bit more practical. You usually save a bit in the actual cost of the doll, then you save on shipping if the doll is already in your country, then there's a shorter wait. Currently I really want a doll in the marketplace now, but my parents hold the credit cards (I pay them in cash) and they're still unsure about a forum-style marketplace XD I think in the future I'll buy both ways, depending on what works out for me ^.^

And I think it's adorable when people say stuff like "up for adoption." >w<

    16. Lol I never called my doll twice loved, no matter how loved they were or what, because I wouldn't know. Anyway what it's been called makes no difference to me, as long as it's not said in slanderous ways or so. There's nothing wrong with saying a second hand doll. It's not losing any magic it didn't have before.

    17. Most of my dolls are from the DoA marketplace. I always look here first, and I am so glad we have a great place to both browse and sell--without fees! I had to sell most of my dolls last year to pay for my insurance deductible (neck surgery) and it was very difficult to let them go. But they went to good homes, my buyers were all familiar to me. I sent them with the clothes I had made for them, and I knew the buyers would appreciate that too as they were seamstresses as well. At the time I wasn't sure if I was going to get back into these dolls or not--I was so bummed.

But then my case was settled and I was able to shop. Curiously, I didn't replace any of my original dolls. I had such an attachment to them and selling them was so painful, replacements would be just that--replacements. Not my original dolls.

Currently I have an Aida on layaway, and I jumped at the chance to buy him. I've always loved this sculpt, and decided to get him now while I can. Previously loved but defintely not used :)

    18. I voted ^^

My first (and only) doll, I bought it from MC... And I agree to say it's a Twice Loved doll ^^ :aheartbea :aheartbea

    19. i've seen people get burned from every type of secondhand purchase. essentially it has to come down to trust. unfortunately, some people are misrepresenting their dolls. good thing there are great dolly people out there though who do not do this.
