1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. All of the first three options.

I've bought on DoA, from e-bay and from friends. I prefer to buy second-hand beciase that way you get to see the actual doll you are buying instead of a generic photo of that sculpt that may not look anything liek what you get due to differences in faceup etc.

    2. I primarily purchase from DoA, then Zoz, and lastly BJDfs. All of the DoA purchases have been very successful, thanks, AnnMarie

    3. I've purchased a lot on ZoZ & DoA. The ZoZ family is a little smaller so I often "know" the dolls for sale when they come up. I rely heavily on DoA feedback when buying. I have not had a bad experience buying in either place. These forums are a tremendous resource.

    4. I had a WTB thread for an Abio Angel Ling that pleaded for me to adopt someones boy. I thankfully found someone willing to let their boy go her on DOA (will hopefully pay him off tommorrow w00t)

I would buy a doll from a friend and on ebay (being cautious of course).

I probably will never get into the the yahoo japan thing unless thats the only way to get something I want. For me it's just too much of a pain right now.

    5. I bought Nabiki in a marketplace in another forum, but when i decide to buy a tiny, i will definitly go through the marketplace here.

Id choose Marketplace, ebay, or from a friend. (ive sold a body to a friend, which is how we created Yuu)

its almost too bad that doll sites dont sell 2nd hand dolls, but it be so hard to tell what exactly is wrong, also the prices would be bad too probably.

    6. I would buy from the first three options.
I think its a good thing to give an "homeless" doll a new future.

    7. i wouldn't like to buy a doll secondhand, not because it could be damaged, because i think most of those are almost like brand new, but for me it would be like having someone elses child :|
      i would like to have brand new doll, do everything about the doll by myslef ect. if its secondhand it wouldn't be the same for me ^^;

    8. In most cases people do remove the makeup and then wash the whole doll. Then its just a clean canvas. All of my SD dolls are second hand because they are all older molds from 2001-2004 they are all hard to find and no longer manufactored. So if you fall for an older mold its going to have been owned by someone. Of course you may only love the new molds there are so many available! Honestly once its wiped clean of makeup and I sit and wash it and sometimes tighten the stringing I have bonded!! its much easier for me to bond in this process even before the makeup is added! then if the doll arrives with makeup new from a company.

    9. I have purchased second-hand dolls from ebay without any problem, but I prefer to buy from the DOA Marketplace. Especially with ebay's new feedback policies, I feel less and less comfortable there.

On the flip side, I feel comfortable buying from DOA sellers because the feedback is solely related to this hobby. I'm not buying from someone who may sell hoards of non-bjd things and knows very little about abjds, or knows nothing about them.

    10. I've adopted a couple of dolls, most through DoA and one through Ebay... and I've sent some on to their new "forever homes," where they'll be loved and appreciated as they deserve to be.

There are just some times where the doll you see on the screen doesn't click with you as much as you'd like, and instead of letting it sit around and be ignored, why not help it find a new home?

I even have one doll (I'm not telling which) who's going to be going to a new home. One of my local ladies has a truly amazing friend who's paying for it, and I'll hand-deliver, taking pictures. I know 100% that she'll love the doll as it deserves to be loved, and I'll still get the joy of seeing it on a semi-regular basis. That's the best anyone could ask for, right?

    11. I don't prefer either new or pre-owned dolls, but I certainly like the latter term over second-hand :)
Any doll was pre-owned or loved, as a doll never truly looses it's allure. Even the most battered dolls eventually find someone willing to restore or recreate them, to be loved once more.

Personally I have bought dolls new from companies, as well as thru DOA, Ebay, BJD Cafe (a Dutch forum) and Yahoo.
I do prefer dealing with forums for purchases, because of the familiarity. Ebay is always a bit scary, although our doll transactions thru there went very well (even in one case where the seller didn't exactly know what he was selling).
Yahoo is very exciting and with the right shopping service, can be very enjoyable.

All our (me and my mom) adopted dolls were in excellent condition, with their original boxes and even wigs, eyes, clothes and sometimes extras. We have had great experiences with all the pre-owned doll sellers, so we were very lucky.

We've never had any trouble bonding with these dolls, some received a make-over and some still look like they did with their previous owner.

    12. I have adopted two lovely girls, and they are no different from ones you buy from the shop yourself.. Except one of them had her face-up modded, but thats why I bought her. They are both darlings. I wont mind buying second hand more. They have more character, when they have been in a home before they came to me.

I have a long wishlist of dolls that the only way I can get them is by buying them second hand. :)

    13. Yay for pre-owned dollies!!! My little Edsel is the only pre-owned doll I own, but that makes me love him even more. I think I prefer buying dolls pre-owned rather than getting them brand new. I love new and pre-owned dolls...but pre-owned dolls have something to look forward to when they get bought again...new dolls won't know the feeling. It's also kinda like Christmas when the previous owner sends some of the dolls personal belongings along as a surprise. Teehee...I've gotta say that I enjoy lower second hand prices too. A new mnf El with a faceup would cost me about $408 (without shipping)...but Edsel only cost me $250+$10 shipping second hand

    14. My first was for sale on the marketplace here, and my second was offered when I posted a WTB for him, and both transactions were super-easy, friendly and smooth. I do check ebay some, but I'm always wary of sending that much money to someone there, as opposed to here where you can check feedback and run across their other posts occasionally and know a little more about the seller. I'll certainly be buying others new from the company, but I like the immediacy of buying on the marketplace - no waiting weeks or months for your doll. Lower shipping prices are helpful, too, and you can see the exact doll you're getting before it arrives.

    15. my first doll was second-hand and i love her dearly! :3
im about to buy another second-hand doll too. but my thrid doll is going to from a the dol l shop :D

    16. All of my dolls were bought second hand from a friend of my Mothers. I still don't look at them as though they were "used" or "junk" though. They are my friends, partners in crime, imagination in physical form and so many other things. I love the idea of my dolls having a past before me, it makes them more human-like to me than the dolls who are fresh out of the box. <3

    17. I've bought one doll second hand as I had little choice in order to get her. I couldn't exactly go to Volks and buy a Hinaichigo so when I saw one come up in the marketplace that was practically brand new hardly ever played with, she was like a brand new doll to me. Even if I bought a doll from someone else I knew they had for years, the doll is still new to me and I would change the doll into what I wanted it to be.

    18. 2/3 of my dolls are second hand and they are in nice condition.
The DOA marketplace is cheap and great when doing group orders.^^

    19. My boy is a second hand doll, I bought him from a friend.
I'm really happy that I decided upon him, I'm not as worried about minor things as I would be with a brand new doll, and he came with a little more than I would have been able to afford for less money than the same doll would from company that I was planning to get.

    20. I like buying from our Market Place, even though it doesn't give buyers the protection like ebay does.... I quess I feel pretty safe as I don't buy from members who doesn't have much feedback. Buying from a friend would be a very nice option, but I don't have many friends, and I probably wouldn't like to buy a doll from a very close friend-- not a doll that she/he has named, loved and played a lot with... It could never be my doll^^;
