1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. Same here, I don't see it as "rescuing" them so to speak, but certainly re-homing is a fantastic way to put it.

Personally I find every doll I've ever bought brand new, I've sold - something about twice or thrice loved dolls have more personality to me, perhaps they've seen more of the world ;)

    2. I prefer buying from a friend..I won't have problems about shipping and customs..:)

    3. I've bought most of my dolls 2nd hand from doa or friends. I love pre-loved dolls if they don't work out with me I like finding them good homes to people that will love them too. I have bought in a group orde/split kinda thing other dolls. My ender was pins and needles waiting on him. My Luts boys El and shiwoo were wonderful to have. I like a mix of both 2nd hand and new dolls.

    4. No worries guys. I also suffer from poor waif syndrome.

I personally love 'previously enjoyed' dollies. There's something about them that makes them very special to me. I would say that they have a more solidified personality maybe? My MNF el got 'rescued' as it were. His first owner wasn't the gentlest, and then he was kept in a box for a long time after that, so I jumped at the chance to adopt him and give him a lot of love. I noticed that a few people said that it felt like their twice-loved dollies had gone out and experienced the world and came back to settle down with them and I would say that this is the case with my el. He's been a happy cuddle monster since he came to my house and I think the fact that i've got other dolls to keep him company just sweetens the deal. My abio angel shi who came just yesterday also seems to be happy to be here.At his last home, he was dress like a girl. xD I could have sworn I heard a "hallelujah!" when I was talking to a friend about how I was planning to buy him a few suits and more a manly wig.

    5. All my dolls are pre-owned, I guess I prefer this way. I can't do face up and fear to try, at least this way I will already know what he/she looks like before they come home. Mind you, some are just as expensive as the new doll because they have OOAK face up or seller can't go any lower than what they paid for but at least they shipped faster then oversea.

    6. I have 2 wonderful second hand dolls bought from the DoA marketplace :) I love them so much and I actually feel more excited when I receive a second hand doll...when they are from the company and they get here, I feel kind of disappointed most of the time because the face up is not what I wanted etc plus many of the dolls from my wishlist will be second hand if I ever get them one day....

    7. i only have one doll right now that i bought new, that was my first doll.

but i would buy every doll second hand if i could...i just wish the ones i wanted were always available.

one reason is that buying second hand makes me feel like i have to be less careful, because they're not shiny new.

    8. hmmm... I don't sell my dolls that I love, so if you buy a doll from me, then you are probably the first to love it. It doesn't mean that I didn't take care of it, because I take care of all my dolls - actually if I am selling a doll, it's probably in perfect condition from NOT being playing with...

I have no issue with the term "second hand" - and unlike what you said, I don't automatically assume that something second hand is damaged.

    9. I love second hand dolls...I mean I like new too but second hand there is character to them...I have several dolls that were second hand either totally or partially. I love seeing something in things that weren't there before. It adds a layer of creativity.

    10. I used to dislike buying second hand, but saving a little money is actually nice. :sweat
But I only buy from the DoA marketplace or our local doll forum. I'm afraid to loose my money if I buy somewhere else.

    11. Hello,

I still cannot access the marketplace :) not yet mwuhaha
But i adopted some of my dolls from ebay :) like a volks nono head
And a used body from yahoo japan......the perfect doll is created!!

Butthe ones i want are just not spotted on the sites yet :s
I really would want a volks megu but i just can not find her :(

      But adopted does seem better

    12. @Shortcake,

I've been reading almost all the responses and it never occurred to me that the 'second hand' term could be changed to "adopted", which seems to be a better term. I love the thought of giving my adopted dolls the love and attention they didn't receive before <3

    13. I love my adopted friends :D I have two and want a third- however the Ani sculpt from Luts is just too loved! I have a very slight chance of getting his head, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high ^^' haha~ Twice+ loved dolls are nice because buying them at least one super cool outfit feels less heavy on my conscience thanks to the doll's lower price!

I have a second hand bobobie March that is particularly quirky. She needs to be restrung so bad it's... actually pretty funny. Her elastic actually decides to become untied and she'll fall apart while being dressed and such. I'd say 'poor girl!', but considering that's the only thing wrong with her, I'll bet her previous owner appreciated her very much!

    14. I had purchased pre-loved dolls from Ebay and DOA MP before. But I prefer DOA as my priority choice.

I guess it's because people on DOA know about doll. Most seller disclose detail pretty clear. (ex. scratches, marks, dirty, yellowed or not...etc) whereas sometimes, sellers on Ebay won't provide as many detail as most DOA sellers do.
I've had a transaction from Ebay before that it ended up the doll head I purchased is in a not-so-good condition. Head has brokerage, hot glued, and was dirty. For the same price, I probably can get the same type of head in a more decent condition from DOA MP. And, as you can image, none of the information above is disclose in auction.

Luckily, it wasn't hard to clean the hot glue and stain.

    15. I like the idea of twice loved and up for adoption, it does have a nicer feeling to it. As for barbies, etc being considered 2nd hand and not BJD, it really depends on both like someone said on how they were treated. I have tons of other OT dolls such as Barbie and all are in excellent condition, I wouldn't list it as 2nd hand or such, just list the details of the condition. Same for BJDs though I have bought a few that were worse for wear.
NRFB would indicate just that never removed from the box...I would think most BJD would not be fall into that category as most owners regardless if you are buying and reselling would want to check the condition of the doll. With Barbies and such you can look through the box, with BJD you have to open the box and normally unwrap them from the packaging. MIB (mint in box) would be a better term for BJDs in my oppinion.

as for "holding smells" that actually isn't quite true, I've heard quite a few cases where people have received BJDs from smokers or maybe someone put theirs in water and didn't let the inside dry out and they smell like mold. True it may be something that is fixable but it can happen.

    16. I have several ABJD's second hand, and they have become some of my favorites. They're not perfect, but close to it, but neither am I. I bought my Narae second or third hand. She is just beautiful, she is golden beige so she has yellowed a bit. And I am a smoker but I do not allow smoking around my dolls and they have their own room and no one smoking is allowed near that room. None of my dolls that I would put up for sale would smell of smoke.

    17. I prefer to buy my dolls second-hand, because then I don't have to deal with company wait times. ;) I'm a sucker for the quick(er) gratification!

However, much of my collection has been purchased either directly from companies or from dealers, simply because it is often more cost efficient. The second-hand prices of dolls can quite frequently be higher than their retail prices (and I'm not just talking about limited edition dolls - this is true of many general releases, as well). There are also times when I end up buying directly from the company because the doll that I want comes with many options, and the combination that I want is hard to find (specific skin tone/head/bust size/leg type/foot type/hand type/whatever) on the secondary market. Buying direct can be easier.

With my collection, I'd say it's about 50/50. When I do buy dolls second-hand, I primarily purchase them here on DoA, on ZoZ, or on Y!JA. It's been 5+ years since I bought a doll on eBay.

    18. All my dolls are second hand but I do like that word adopted! My first doll I bought from someone in person so I got to pick her up and check her out but the rest are from the DOA marketplace. Some trades and some purchased, some had face ups and some were blank. I'm so happy with all of them .

Yes, I like instant gratification (so no layaways either).

    19. I'd say DoA's MP, because on thew MP, we tend to know people best and as it's within the community, we tend to know each other better and we tend to know the dollls and their history better too.

    20. I only ever refer to them as "secondhand" if we're talking technicalities. I prefer calling them "pre-loved" since they did belong to a loving home at some point before they ended up with me. :aheartbea

I definitely don't feel like any of my girls are "second-hand" even though they've had previous owners. If I recall correctly, my first girl had 3 previous owners, and I love her as if I had gotten her brand new, because hey, she's brand new to me! Many of my girls are pre-loved (most of them found here on the Marketplace, too!), but I treat them as if I'd gotten them straight from the company.

Each newly-adopted girl, whether from the company or pre-loved, gets her own box opening. Even without the glamorous box, there's still that magical thrill that comes with welcoming a new little one into your home. :) I adopt dolls who are in good condition, so everything definitely feels new. :)
